Some interesting things are happening on Udon’s DeviantArt page though. Someone pointed out that a couple of winners from the fanart selection are all artists of Imaginary Friends Studios, who are all professional comic artists. Hmm.
I don’t see a problem with that, actually. As long as you’re a fan, you can post fanart. Now if you happen to do this kind of thing for a living, it just means that you’re ahead of the curve.
I think they chose a wide variety of styles to showcase the characters. It would be hella dull if all the artwork looked CG’d. It’s the same kind of charm that the CSFACs had.

I wanna post mine, but not yet. I knew my artwork wasnt up there with the pros and some of u guys, but Street Fighter only turns 20 once so I had to give it a shot.

Congrats to everyone that got selected and commiserations that those that didn’t, can’t wait to see the final entries in the book. I kind of regret not taking part now, and no doubt will even more when the book comes out. Oh well i’m sure it won’t be the last of such a project.

seriously Rook. i can’t get over the contrast on akuma. and gen looks super killer. everyone’s art is looking superb too. there truly are a lot of great artists here.
Yeah, but the fanart selection was stated that it was suppose to be for fans. Professionals either were suppose to contact Udon themselves, and show samples of their work, or Udon was gonna send out invites.
Either way, it’ll be a spectacular book.

Looking at this thread, I see a lot of awesome work. And I’m not just simply saying that. I think it’s because of the nature of the event, everyone seems to be putting a little extra effort into their pieces and it really shows.
CptMunta’s Ryu pavement art is really cool. I’m surprised that didn’t get in (I assume that Udon picks the most creative usage of mediums for variety, among other criterias… and really how many people actually submitted a pavement art?)
Switcher’s SF4 Makoto is an interesting take.
johnnyutah001’s guile is really professional work. I love it.
And rook… oh damn. That’s one awesome work. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but the whole feel of the art is very unlike SF… it gives a sense that it’s not made as a fanart. And the choice of subject is way cool too… Akuma vs Gen? That’s something all SF fans would love to see.

A little bit about mine, I did something that pays a little tribute to Akiman. It is also a gift to all SF fans. It’s something that can only be fully appreciated if you grew up when SF came out. I hope you’ll look forward to it.

In one of Udon’s blogposts on DA they said due to the enormous response to this book that they would be interested in doing tribute books for other Capcom properties, and they mentioned Darkstalkers but it really all depends on how this SF tribute book sells etc.
