Street Fighter IV cabinet = square gate Sanwa?

I have searched and searched and searched for the answer to this question for 2 days using my Wii (computer down) so please forgive me if I can’t find it.

From what I hear, the Street Fighter IV cabinet has a square gate for the stick. However, so does the Hori EX2 for XB360. Is it that Street Fighter IV is more forgiving when inputting 360 motions (Zangief SPD) or is it that Street Fighter II’ HF on the XBox Live Arcade is unresponsive? I can’t imagine why the Hori EX2 could be that much worse than the SFIV cabinet when they’re the same stick? And I’m referring strictly to 360 movement, not the buttons. I want to be able to do SPDs, Atomic Suplexes, and Running Bear Grabs when HD Remix hits tomorrow… but I’m not sure what to do about my EX2. I had no trouble at all with SFIV, controlled better than any Zangief I’ve played yet. But the Hyper Fighting one with the “same” stick is nearly impossible for me to piledriver with.

So in a nutshell, is the EX2 garbage? Is the SFIV joystick the same as the EX2 (Square gate, referring to stick only)? Or is Hyper Fighting on XB360 unresponsive?

Both have square gates, that doesn’t mean both use the same square gates or the same sticks.

I’m a total newbie at this stuff. I guess I didn’t realize different ones could effect input so much.

I guess need to find an arcade stick that is basically a carbon copy of that SFIV panel. That thing was perfect. Sanwa buttons I think (super responsive and way sensitive) and that stick did whatever I told it to do. Except for some supers that is, but it was due to me messing up, not the stick, cause SPDs came out flawlessly.

If anyone knows what kind of stick/buttons the SFIV cabinets use (I think they’re all the same, the one I played at was TGA) and knows of a stick that replicates that, I’d love to be pointed in the right direction. I can’t seem to find what I’m looking for when I search the forums and google.

Yea different sticks can feel completely different.

What you want is a Sanwa JLF stick and Sanwa buttons.

Check out the sticky on the madcatz sticks. They are releasing two sticks for sf4, one budget version, and one premium version that has the parts you want.

Vewlix cabinets use Sanwa JLF-TP-8Y-SK sticks and Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons (OBSF-24 for the start buttons too).

Basically, what you are requesting is a full Sanwa stick for the Xbox 360, which means you have to go the custom route or wait for the SF IV sticks.

Edit: beaten.

Thanks! I understand this information is probably in other threads, but despite joining shoryuken years ago, I haven’t frequented it much and know next to nothing about arcade stick parts. I saw a bunch of model numbers, but aside from “Hori EX2” and Sanwa, all that other stuff like HRAP and SL2JBQJKLRblahblah is like reading pig latin. I couldn’t seem to find a way to search for both Street Fighter IV and “arcade stick” and find out what it was using.

And I thought the SFIV premium was only going to be on PS3. I hope that Sanwa JLF and button one comes to 360 as well. I’ll check that topic and look into it.

Thanks again!

same here but i think hrap stands for “Hori Real Arcade Pro” as for the other stuff i think it refers tp diffrent sticks u can get either ball or the joystick bigger

Inputs for moves are much more lenient in SFIV than any other SF, so that may be it.

Although it will take some work, you can mod your EX2 with a Sanwa JLF and Sanwa buttons. AFAIK, it will mount the joystick at the right height, so besides being light, it’ll be like the arcade. Search the forums for the EX2 modding thread.

If you don’t want to mod your stick, go with what others have mentioned: Madcatz SFIV stick or custom route.

360 as well

The HORI EX2 is by all accounts an “inferior” version of the HRAP (HORI Real Arcade Pro) simply because the stick on all HRAPs is a Sanwa JLF while the EX2 uses a default HORI stick (default square gate). However, many people have used an EX2, even in tournaments, and have been satisfied with it.

In its simplest form, the default SFIV Vewlix cabinet (not necessarily the one that all arcades use) uses a Sanwa JLF (default square gate) with Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons (OBSF-30RG?). The layout is a new layout specific to Vewlix panels. Currently, no retail sticks have the Vewlix layout. There are some SFIV-specific sticks coming out and they might have it…

Vewlix Panel uses:
JLF-TP-8Y-SK-W (Joystick)
OBSF-30-W (Action-button)
OBSF-24-W (Start-button)

It seems perfect for playing SF4 by PS3/XB360 at home!
How can I get one~?

It’s custom made, you can buy the parts and either build it yourself or have someone else build it for you.

There are also a couple of Vewlix templates people have posted if you’re fond of the look. It shouldn’t be too bad to print one of these out and replace the artwork on an existing stick with it.

The viewlix street fighter IV cabinets look amazing! The only arcade in my area that has SFIV is actually using crappy HAPP joysticks and buttons with a shitty screen (not HD). How the hell am I supposed to go from playing on a hrap3 at home to a happ cabinet at the arcade -____-. Lame.

Since there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer in this thread… Is it safe to assume that the standard SFIV cabs use square gates?
