It’s nice to see Fei Long make his debut into the comic. I definatly hope he meets up with Ryu some point.
I must say the covers were excellent aswell.
Also the art compo pics… Always good fun to look at.
Though i can’t help but notice that the winning pic features Kyosuke from Rival Schools… I don’t know rether this means that just because he appeared in Capcom vs SNK2 means he is now apart of the SF universe or what (Mind you Sakura was in rival schools)… Im not saying it’s a bad thing… Infact i would like it alot if he made it.
You know whats really strange. I don’t remember that guy with the one eye’d computer generated pet thing floating around him, but a cute little girl with long blond hair. I think she appears in the Super Street Fighter 2 Cammy Manga as well. Then again I know the Dhalsim ending picture I’ve seen in SF:enternal art book was completely different to the one I saw as well, as well as Chun-Li’s (who had a yellow bra and tipped hot pants on). I’d blame my memory on this but I completed the game so many times it just can’t be. So I wonder what’s up with that? did any of the ending art get changed at some point? I know the dude was in the ending cause of the post by Sagatryu so I have no idea where this girl came from. Ho hum.
Anywho.
I really liked seeing Delta Red in motion. I also like how you can tell Luwanda’s english cause she said “Bugger” laughs I can’t wait until you all hear an English guy/gal say “Fuck” and see the expressions on ya faces. I also look forward to “Bloody hell”, “You wanker”, “Pass me a pint luv” and “My word” being said in the comic laughs (In case its not clear - I’m not bitter or anything like that. It’s all good fun. )
But yeah, I have grown real fond of the Delta Red team now, be intresting to see what else they do in the comic. That and I must know if that computer pet is going to be some sort of super secret virus that the kid’ll use to infect Shadaloo’s computers. Cause I bloody well placed a bet on it happening so don’t let me down! Oh and I may be a little biased as they’re from my homeland and all. grins
Sakura should know better then to copy Ryu’s bare foot walk. A sharp stone, some broken glass and al sorts of other hazards will be waiting for her. I’ll laugh my ass off if the next time we see them Ryu’s carrying her to a doctors to get her feet sorted. Ryu’s feet are probably tough as moutains now, and despite what the art says, got tons of thick layer skin to protect 'em, so he’ll be fine of course.
I’m also liking the look into everyones life as well. This was a good “building up” comic and I wait with baited breath for the next one. Also its nice seeing Ken schooling Ryu. Despite what most people think I’ve always viewed them as equals overall in terms of fighting ability.
And as if it needs to be stated but Cheaps Shots was fantastic. Dan is the bully sorting man! and his student is great. Poor little kid. The big bully guy wins my “Best 'fro in Street Fighter” award. I hope he’ll take it with pride in his heart.
Also from this comic I have decided Cammy should appear in Splinter Cell. Its so obvious now, and at least she’ll be able to do something once she’s ran out of ammo.
I’m sort of looking forward to Dreamwave’s Rival Schools special. Their handling of Mega Man and Darkstalkers (based on the write-up) have left much to be desired. I do enjoy their Transformers stuff though…
I’m patiently awaiting the release of the RS book, but also cringing at the same time, preparing for an onslaught of suckiness should it happen.
Based on the write-up for issue 9, Ryu travels to India to meet Dhalsim: We know that from one of Ryu’s win quotes (to Necro) that he used to beat a guy in India (probably should have been “I fought a guy like you once in India” Engrish, LOL) and also that Dhalsim “taught” Ryu the Hadou Ken in SF2V. I think that Dhalsim helping Ryu hone his focus through meditation should lead to the Shinkuu Hadou Ken.
Anyone else notice the trend of characters doing supers at the graves of their loved ones? Ken does a Shinryuu Ken at Gouken’s Grave and Chun Li busts out a Kikou Sho at Dourai’s grave (I know Chun Li’s father was never actually named, but if you use the image, I use the name). My guess is that Guile pulls off a Sonic Hurricane at Charlie’s grave. Except how could he do this without causing massive collateral damage? Chun Li and Ken’s supers were stationary, so they wouldn’t hit anything?
Also, will Dhalsim perform a Yoga Inferno at the grave of his dead elephant when Balrog kills it with the Gigaton Blow?
Re-posting from the other thread (which one is the official one?):
My opinions…
You guys have to watch for the melodrama. When you have characters talking about previous issues in such a dramatic tone, and said issues barely had any drama or development, it sounds kinda lame.
Issue 7 was filled of “hes been through a lot” “i cant do anything without you” and stuff like that. Pretty much every single character acted emotional and stuff. But man, you cant do that after six under-written issues. Be dramatic, not melodramatic.
1b) You guys shouldve had more between 6 and 7 (making issue 7 into issue 8). One issue (minimum! two or three would be better) with no Guile, Chun-li or Cammy. Those characters needed time away. They all had things to do!
What we got were a buncha characters saying “yeah, its been a long time”.
Come on, guys. We all read comics, we all know how great it is when a character goes away the comes back. It wouldve worked much better. We had to miss them, wonder what they were up to.
The way it was done felt cheap. Like i said before, rushing things just because you only have three years of license is not the best option. Its the worst.
The art in the Cammy part was pretty weird (its the same guy from the previous Charlie/Guile/Chun-li stuff, right? I like the art better back then).
I can really live without silly stuff like the “slicing food” joke. That was something i expected to see in old kiddies cartoons, not Street Fighter.
Is Udon even trying to follow the games? Psycho-Drive? Roses soul and body? Its too far away already. Its a comic book, there are no budget or acting problems - why hold back?
Overall, i loved the Fei-Long stuff, found the Ryu/Ken stuff ok (even with the melodrama) and hated the Cammy stuff. The back-up was good (plot-wise), but LaRocca totally dissapointed there.
An average issue.
P.S: On the art section, the one by “Virginia” is based on a Satoshi Urushihara (or maybe his assistant - im too lazy to go check) illustration.
ya, its good that characters do get there spotlight, but only thing i was looking for this issue was the ryu storyline, other wise im okay with the rest considering im not a very big fan of cammy or chunny or ken. so ummm when is the release of the powerfoil SF#7 coming out.
Issue #7 was excellent. Sakura complaining about how her and Ryu could have taken a bus to the airport was hilarious. Will there be some scenes of them two training in later issues, or will she just be following her around?
Also, thank you for the Fei Long! Fei is probably my favorite SF character. When does his foil cover come out?
Oh, and I didn’t have a chance to mention it earlier, but Shinkiro’s cel cover to issue #5 was the greatest cover to a comic I’ve ever held in my hands. I actually cried, it was so beautiful.
thanks everybody for the wonderful comments on CHEAPSHOTS SAIKYO DOJO!!! it was a really awesome opportunity for me to be able to draw a fun little dan story.
im working my way up to getting dan his own miniseries ;] nudges erik
keep an eye out for the new CHEAP SHOTS: CHOPSOCKY starting issue 8… things are gonna get a little different, and a lot funnier :]
Dan’s own Mini Series! That would be too funny! I liked when that kid punched Dan in the stomach and Dan acted like it didn’t hurt, but the “inner Dan” felt the pain! Ooooh…
More things about the issue - It was cool how when Cammy reminisced about her past everything was done in a shade of green. That reminded me about SF2V when Cammy was thinking about how she was gonna kill Chun-Li’s Dad and everything was in a shade of green too!
I also liked how Cammy specifically did not say things like “Bugger” and such since she is not British, but from Shadowloo. Capcom never gave her a British Voice Actor and the fact that she was found by M1-6 and her stage was in England lead people to think she was British but the SFZ Series reveals that this is no longer the case. If you play with Cammy in CVS1, on Vega’s(Dictator) stage, it reveals her birthplace is “???”. She’s from Shadowloo and a clone of Vega(Dictator, again).
By definition a clone is a replica. i.e. Genetic Replica. If Cammy was a clone of Vega then she would have to firstly be male, and look almost the same as him. The idea of a clone can’t be true even if Capcom used those spasific words, as it doesn’t make sense in biology. The way it seems to me is that the ‘Dolls’ are all girls that have been abducted and genetically enhanced by Vega’s genes. This is why T-Hawk’s sister is one of the dolls. Also, it may explain where Cammy got her scar from - it looks like the work of Balrog IMO, and could have been attained because of her resistance. I agree that Cammy may not be British, but I doubt she was non-existant before Vegas scientists enhanced her.
Since it’s the X chromosome that contains the majority of one’s genetic data, maybe Cammy is Bison’s clone but simply with another X chromosome instead of a Y. …that doesn’t explain why she’s blonde while Bison (and Rose) is not, though. But then, a lot of the official stuff regarding the whole Bison Rose Cammy relationship doesn’t have much grounds in science.
Cammy has an official birthdate, so we know that she didn’t instantly appear out of no where in the age and form that she is in come SFA3 (off topic: Same thing can be said for Rose since she has an official nationality. Not that some people know why I’m bringing up Rose here, I suppose)
Oh, and Juli/Noembelu is not T. Hawk’s sister^^ T. Hawk’s father was killed 30 years ago, so she’s too young to be his sister. It’s probably just a fellow villager/tribe member.
In the game Vega straight up calls her a Clone, even if Capcom’s definiton of a clone is a little iffy. Hell, our definition of a Clone is iffy. In Sci-Fi terms clone means taking someone’s DNA and making a copy. Real Clones are made by using Eggs… Ugh…
Yeah, many speculate that Cammy may have been just infused with Vega’s DNA or something, but it’s still speculation at best. I tend to lean towards her being a straight up clone myself. Yeah, she’s female, but so is Rose who is also a part of Vega that seperated. Methinks by Capcom’s definiton "Clone and “Copy” are a bit different.
I think Time_Stop brought up a good point about characters needing time away so that they can actually be missed, but i think Udon is doing that stuff already. For example, Vega left pretty pissed off but we haven’t seen him return yet and Honda’s been humiliated so he’s gotta have something to say about that too. Bison and Akuma are probably going to be gone for a while, even tho both major storyline threads revolve around them.
But even tho i agree with Time_Stop in principle, i don’t see how it would be possible to leave out major popular characters such as Guile/ChunLi/Cammy on the first 48-page issue of the second major storyline arc. A lot of people are going to have bought the TPB and picking up with comics with issue 07, so if you took out those three who would be left? Fei Long and a Ryu recap. That wouldn’t have impressed anybody.
As for the Ryu recap, when i read Time_Stop’s post i went back and looked at that segment again. Yeah, it does come off as melodramatic, but it didn’t really feel that way to me the first time i read it. It’s pretty simple really - that stuff is just standard comic book procedure for new storyline arcs. Either you read the first six issues and the tone of Eliza’s recollection doesn’t really carry much weight (cuz you already know how it went down). Or you haven’t read the first six issues and are picking up with 07, in which case the overly dramatic tone is pretty much the only way to convey the weight of six issues (or even a single issue) in the space of one and a half pages.
Yea, my mind just sorta glazed past the Ryu part without stopping. In retrospect, I also now see that it was a bit melodramatic, but when I was actually reading through it in practice, the melodramaticness wasn’t a factor because it seemed like standard recap fare to me as my mind quickly skipped over it.
I don’t think Cammy needed time away, though. The whole feel, personality, and even look and group that Delta Cammy is around with is completely different from Shadaloo Cammy. It’s practically like a new character, really (this Cammy is all cheerful while the former was all cold. …except in that Chun vs Cammy back-up story, of course. And of course, Shadaloo Cammy hung with the Dolls while Delta Red hangs with Delta Red, and those two groups have completely different moods, goals, and make-up, too)
I wonder what the heck Udon is going to do with Rose, now. I hated the whole way Capcom dealt with Rose with the soul body sharing switcharoo off-screen death scene, but now that that window of opportunity for it to happen in the comic is passed (for the most part. Udon could put it back in but it’d feel kinda retroactive to me), I don’t see how the heck to deal with Rose at the moment. Still, a good writer can bend a storyline where he or she wants it to go without it being forced if that writer knows what he’s doing.
If Vega called her a clone of himself, then Capcom’s use of clone is not accurate. In a nutshell, if we are thinking about cloning as in the case of Dolly, then Cammy would be made by having a sample of any Vega tissue, isolate cells of that tissue, extract the nucleus and infuse that nucleus into a denucleated egg cell. Chemical shock or electric shock to get the egg to begin mitosis and infuse egg into a female and have her carry to term. Cammy would carry all of Vega’s genome and would be genetically male (XY).
If they are referring to cloning single genes of Vega and then transforming them into Cammy’s cells then it would make more sense, but Cammy wouldn’t be a Clone of Vega she would be someone who carries and possibly express some of Vega’s genes. Just like it is possible to make mouse liver tissue carry B-gal genes from bacteria (used for probing) or primates bioluminesce because they carry specific jellyfish genes (I’m sure people have seen this in the media). Clearly a mouse is not a clone of bacteria and a primate is not a clone of a jellyfish.
I know the post is a bit off topic, but maybe some of this info is interesting to some people. As for what Cammy really is, it really doesn’t matter - fiction is fiction.
As for the issue itself, I enjoyed it - I’ve read the criticisms, but for me it succeeded in being a fun read, which I guess, was all I was looking for.
Yes, Cammy would be Male if Vega was 100% human being. We don’t know that for sure. As far as we can tell he’s a form energy that is hosting a Body, and such energy can be transferred to another body. Who the heck knows what a clone of that, a being that tossed the good side out of him creating Rose would create.
There is no possible way that she can be a clone as she shares very few physical attributes with Vega. Whatever definion of ‘clone’ you use, it suggests an exact replica. It could just be that Capcom USA did a lousy translation of an ambiguous Japanese word (not the first time )
With Rose being part of Vega that was seperated… That doesn’t suggest she is also a clone of Vega. I think that the way Vega gained his powers was the same way that Rose gained hers. i.e. the part that was seperated was spiritual not physical IMO.
This goes into my theory of Rose being Anita, and the good element of Donovans soul going to Rose, whilst the bad but powerful elemnt going to Vega but there’s not enough confirmation of this idea…
Cammy does not need to share any attributes in common with Vega. Vega is not a normal person. He seperated into two people. One of them is Female. If she shares traits with Rose it’s the same thing. It’s speculated that it was just a form of energy that sapped a pregnant baby to create Rose, but it’s still speculation with no official word.
If you can’t see how the heck people in Japan Fiction writers think one person can seperate into two people, you should check out Dragon Ball Z and the Japanese Ring Trilogy.
Science And Fiction - two different things. The Clone phrase is used lots in SFZ and again in SF2 Revival so not even Capcom USA can butcher it that much. I already said Capcom’s definition of Clones is iffy, but so is ours.
Science Fiction Cloning
Take someone’s DNA (hair, blood, saliva, etc.)
Make a copy.
Real life Cloning.
Get an Egg.
Infuse it with DNA - If you use sperm we will still call it Cloning…
This sure is a fun discussion, so I mean no Malice in my Posts.
