Street Fighter In-Game English Script Scorecard Thread

なるほど
Same here, at first i just casually studied off and on, but then i decided to get serious a few years ago.

Right on.

Now for Cammy, first the win quotes:

“Your missing teeth will remind you of my victory!”

No reference for it, zero score. One harshly-spoken quote includes:

“A shameful face… Your own inexperience curses you.”

Next:

“You must enjoy being beat! Let me remodel your face one more time!”

Also no real resemblance to any of her originals. Another:

“Seems you’re lacking a drive for victory. That contentment is your weakness!”

One more exclusively In Revival, but took a hint from one of Dee Jay’s for whatever reason:

“Were my killer combos too much for you, huh?!”

And another goose egg. One more original:

“That was a good warm-up. I’ll take you on as an opponent again.”

Now to the endings, first from Super and ST:

Cammy: “Tell me about my past, Bison!”

M. Bison: “How could you forget me, Cammy? Don’t you remember I…”

Cammy: “All I remember is that you set me up and tried to kill me, but only succeeded in scarring my face! How could you do this to me?”

M. Bison: “I had feelings for you! I did not try to kill you! You had an unfortunate accident and lost your memory! Don’t you remember? We were in love!”

Cammy: “No! This can’t be possible! I couldn’t fall in love with a man like you!”

Colonel Wolfman: “Our mission has been completed. Let’s go home.”

Cammy: "Wait! If what he [says is true], I’m not the person I thought I was!"
[]
in certain editions

Lita: “Don’t believe that slime ball Cammy!! No one could love a loser like him.”

Cammy: “You’re right! Now Bison can be scarred with the nightmare of defeat! Let’s go home guys!”

And originally:

Cammy: “Vega, I want to hear something from you. You know don’t you…of my past?”

Vega: “I’ll tell you. Three years ago you, were a spy sent from my organization.”

Cammy: “…!!”

Vega: “Don’t tell me, you’ve lost your memory haven’t you.”

Cammy: “This can’t be…they’re lies!!!”

Vega: “Now there is no further plan concerning you. Go ahead and leave…”

Cammy: “What…can I do about this?”

Cammy: “Everyone!”

Delta Red Member: “The mission, is fulfilled. Come now, let’s return.”

Cammy: “But I…”

Delta Red Member: “Nothing matters of the past. What’s important is from here on! Are we, not companions?”

Cammy: “Everyone…thank you.”

The soldiers were returning. To the loved ones they have in their fatherland…

Hoboy, so Cammy has to be more demanding and snide overseas, and apparently has to swap an assassin’s past with Vega for a lover’s past with Bison, yuck x infinity. Can negative scores be awarded? Anyways to the Revival endings now, first Turbo:

M. Bison: “I never would have imagined that I could be beaten by a mere copy of myself…”

Cammy: “Bison…what do you mean? Who am I?”

M. Bison: “Hmm, listen to me, my sweet little Cammy. You are just a copy generated from my DNA!”

Cammy: “…No!”

M. Bison: “I had you inserted into the British Empire for my own reasons, but I never imagined that you would lose your memory.”

Cammy: “No… You’re lying! It can’t be true!”

M. Bison: “I don’t need you anymore. It is time for you to go…”

Cammy: “What should I do now…? Hey, all of you!”

Colonel Wolfman: “It’s all over now. Let’s go home.”

Cammy: “But I…”

Lita: “Your past doesn’t matter to us. It is how you choose to define your future that matters! And besides that, we’re friends right?”

Cammy: “Thank you all…”

The time has come for the good soldiers to return home into the arms of their loved ones…

And X:

Vega: “Impossible, my own copy to overthrow me…”

Cammy: “Vega…what am I?”

Vega: “Hmm, I’ll tell you. You are a bearer of my DNA created for Shadoloo’s sake. The skin of a mere guinea pig!”

Cammy: “…!”

Vega: “You were slipped into the British Empire. Don’t tell me, you’ve lost your memory haven’t you.”

Cammy: “This can’t be, they’re lies!!!”

Vega: “Now you are of no need. Go ahead and disappear!”

Cammy: “What…can I do about this? …Everyone!”

Delta Red Member: “Everything, has been finished. Come now, let’s return.”

Cammy: “But I…”

Delta Red Member: “Nothing matters of the past. What’s important is from here on! Are we, not companions?!”

Cammy: “Everyone, thank you…”

The soldiers were returning. To the loved ones they have in their fatherland and…

So much better this time around. Still to Bison she has to be ‘sweet’ and ‘little’ oddly enough. Above average score for conversion.

Next time, Balrog.

Can I get one from Rival Schools?

In a different thread perhaps.

That would be great! They did aLotta talkin’ before fights in that game.

Balrog up. Win quotes, first:

“Hey what happened? I’m not through with you yet!”

Most closely took after:

“What the, I waited long to get a good fight going! Ya lost too fast!”

Both express his disappointment at his opponent not lasting long, so points for that. Next:

“Get up you wimp!”

Most likely tried to replace:

“There isn’t a guy who’s stood up, after eating my lethal punch!”

The English makes him more of simpleton but again similar point comes across in the conversion. Next:

“My fists []* have your blood on them!”
[]* “still” added in Revival

Taken originally from:

“Uh oh my fists, have been totally stained with blood.”

Goes from nasty indifferent to nasty cocky, still nasty either way. Now to the endings, first from Champion Edition and Turbo:

Balrog: “YAAHHHH!!..I’M NUMBER ONE!!”

Shouting in a loud voice, a victorious Balrog thrusts out his bloody fists at the crowd. He remembers what he learned growing up in the ghetto: “SOMETIMES ONLY THE POWER OF A MAN’S FIST CAN SAVE HIS BUTT ON THE STREETS OF LIFE.” This belief has made him the greatest fighter in the world. Children all over the country once again may believe that the American dream is still alive.

Originally:

"Uooooh-----!!!"
Remarkably together with a great outcry, Bison’s fists stained with blood skywarded into the air. For the sake of victory as a person born into a poor family, more than anything regardless of power. And so through power he became the world’s best. His victory the gift of a dream to children nation-wide, the American dream revived so to speak.

So some adlibbing overseas with Balrog’s line and with the narration, but overall the same gist is conveyed, not bad. Next in Super and ST:

Balrog: “I made it!! I’m the strongest fighter in the world!!!”

Believing in his ability and strength, Balrog finally made his dream of being number one come true.

Balrog: “Only in America baby!!! Now this is the life… Ya know what I’m saying?”

Originally:

Bison: “I finally did it! I…I, became the world’s best!”

Trusting in his fist, he gained a victory of the American dream. For him the overflow of tears would not stop.

Bison: “Now then, drink up! Tonight is my treat!”

Having fancied such a thing since the time he was young, he was finally able to obtain it. Millions in wealth and glory. And so, for the moment the title of “world’s best”…!

More simplicity gained for Balrog and his quips overseas, and quite a narration omission at the end, not so good a transition score. Finally for Revival, first Turbo:

Balrog: “Ha! I knew that Bison wasn’t so tough! Anyway, I’m the head of Shadaloo now! Money, status, power…I can have anything I want!”

One month later…

Balrog: “Why did this have to happen!?”

With Balrog as leader, Shadaloo painfully and quickly self-destructed. And so, Balrog is once again leading a miserable life…

Balrog: “What did I do wrong!? Someone please tell me! Why does this always happen to me?!”

And X:

Bison: “Hmph! Vega that bastard, I thought he wasn’t that much. But with this, I am the head of Shadoloo! Feeling money and honor as I please!”

Perhaps a month later…

Bison: “How in the-!?”

When Bison became leader he himself destroyed Shadoloo… He was living his life at the bottom once again…

Bison: “What in the blazes did I do!!!”

And so Balrog is a little more polite, is more of a pointless whiner at the end, and approximately a month becomes exactly a month for some reason. Average score for the English since the rest was effective and appropriate paraphrasing.

Next time, Vega.

Ready now for Vega, first the win quotes:

“Thank you for a gorgeous time!”

Probably drawn from:

“Heh…that moment of victory, was my most beautiful time…”

He decided to be more direct to his victim in English, anyways. Next:

"Handsome fighters never lose [a battle]!"
[]
or “battles”

Most likely from:

“Heeheehee the beautiful know not of defeat.”

A trade-off of poetic nature and general for direct and specific. On to the endings, first from Champion Edition and Turbo:

Vega: “THIS WORLD EXISTS ONLY FOR THE BEAUTIFUL, SO NATURALLY ONLY A GORGEOUS HUNK OF A MAN LIKE ME COULD WIN!!”

Vega stands victorious, stroking his long blond hair and adds calmly,

Vega: “THE UGLY DESERVE NO MERCY…SO I DESTROYED THEM ALL!!! HEE, HEE, HEE!”

Originally:

"Beauty, is essential for the sovereign. Let the world obtain the likes of the ugly, not even fit for a joke."
To the extent of believing admirers in his dreams, they slowly, made Balrog quiet.
“Destroy all of those ugly ones, there must not be sympathy for the ugly.”

So he brings himself down from the realm of the divine in Japanese to the realm of the earthly in English, and he has to label himself as a ‘gorgeous hunk.’ Also instead of allowing his philosophy to quiet him, he has to be victorious and stroke his hair. Yeah. Now for his Super and ST ending:

Vega: “Ha, ha, ha! Now I’m the grand champion…not to mention the most beautiful fighter on the planet Earth!”

Vega back at his mansion continues to praise himself on his victory and beauty. Perhaps he is the world’s biggest narcissist.

Vega: “Who’s next?!”

Originally:

Balrog: “Heeheehee, with this I, have proven the first of the strong and the beautiful. My beauty is quite suitable, why not after all…!”

Having returned to his mansion the fights continue there every day.

Balrog: “Come now, who’s next. Your blood, paints my victory red. For my beautiful self, flowing blood crimson is appropriate!”

Now he has to be the grand champion as well as the most beautiful on the planet. Also the overseas conversion had to spell out that he’s a narcissist, and yet he’s muted on his affinity for blood and its redness. Low score.

Now to the Revival endings, first Turbo:

Vega: “Hee hee hee… I have proven to be the strongest and most beautiful fighter in this world! No one can match my beauty!”

He continues fighting as if nothing happened…

Vega: “Who’s next? Your blood shall paint my victory… Bloody red fits my beauty perfectly! Hee hee hee!!”

And X:

Balrog: “Heeheehee…I am the world’s best and beautiful after all! My beauty is something suitable like none other in the world!”

For him however, the fights continue everyday…

Balrog: “Come now, who’s next? Your blood is beautiful for my victory. For my beautiful self blood crimson is appropriate!”

Minus the extra snickering a much better language transition to English. Almost spot on.

Next time, Sagat.

And now for Sagat, first up the win quotes:

“You are not a warrior, you’re a beginner!”

Referenced from most likely:

“You’re beyond weak! I’m letting out yawns!!”

Yuck at the conversion overseas. Next:

“I am not satisfied until I have the world’s strongest title again!”

Probably came from:

“Until I become the world’s best once more, the fact is I cannot proceed with a reason to lose.”

Somewhat better, he had to sound more selfish in English apparently. To the endings, first the one used in Champion Edition and Turbo:

The new “King of Street Fighters” looks around for the “Wandering Warrior” who is stronger than himself. He thinks,

Sagat: “COME BACK RYU, GET TOUGHER AND LEARN WHAT IT IS TO BE A LOSER… TODAY, MY GREAT SCAR SHOWS I HAVE LEARNED AND OVERCOME… UNTIL THEN I WILL BE WAITING!!”

The title of the world’s greatest fighter means nothing to him. It is the power of the fight and defeating a worthy opponent that he lives for. Maybe he was born to be a fighter…

Originally:

A person who was seeing the struggle within himself, he continues to desire more strong opponents.
"Ryu!, become stronger, and thus come before me once again."
Sagat, becoming better indifferently, quickly the world’s best. It was power he desired, combat, and more strong opponents. That is, was even Sagat evidence of a fighter’s flowing blood?..

So new titles added overseas to both Sagat and Ryu, Sagat’s continued verbal bashing, and then he all of the sudden gets imbued with Ryu’s outlooks on battle. Spew and weird. Next for Super and ST:

Sagat: “The title of the “world’s strongest”, this is not the first time I have held it. Last time I lost it to a mere boy but never…”

Deep down Sagat knows that Ryu is more than just a lucky boy. The great scar on his chest reminds him every day of just how much untapped power Ryu has!

Sagat: “No! I will not underestimate again Ryu. Next time we meet, one of us will not survive!!!”

And originally:

Sagat: “Emperor…eh. Once, was an obsessive time I yearned for this pedestal. However, now…”

He was understanding. Once again he’d take on, that man…

Sagat: “I also, must not waste time on becoming stronger more than now.”

Sagat: “I shall be looking forward to it, the day I fight you again.”

Someday?, once again…!

This time added narration notes, put-downs and threats overseas for Sagat. Too bad the transition made him sound that way, low score. And the Revival endings:

Sagat: “The title of emperor used to be mine and it used to mean something special. But now…that has changed…”

Sagat knew that “he” would return…

Sagat: “I’ll have to be stronger for our next fight… I look forward to fighting with you again! Someday it will be you and me in a match worthy of the gods! Until then I will prepare and wait…”

And in X:

Sagat: “Emperor…eh. Once, was an obsessive time I yearned for this title. However, now…”

He was understanding. Once again he’d take on that man.

Sagat: “I also must not waste time on becoming stronger more than now… I shall be looking forward to the day I fight you again! Someday, for sure!”

Better this time, yet Sagat still has to gloat in English about a ‘match worthy of the gods.’ Average at best.

Next time, M. Bison.

English is better.

And most of these are quite wordy, so maybe reason why for more concise translations to English is because they wanted to get “straight to the point” and to save on memory space.

Your opinion that it’s better. I’ll usually take the Japanese any day. Either way here it’s not about what’s better or worse, but about how little or how much of a divergence occurs upon leaving the land of the rising sun and crossing the ocean. Concise is fine with me, making up something totally different, typically not so much.

Okay now for M. Bison, first the win quotes:

“Get lost! You can’t compare with my powers!”

Most likely came from:

“Fighting me with that degree of skill is something underrated.”

More or less the same, minus the added ‘get lost!’ Oh well, next:

“Anyone who opposes me will be destroyed!”

Probably derived from:

“Those who are in my way, are only for death!!”

Again a good conversion. Now to the endings, first for Champion Edition and Turbo:

Standing with his cape flowing behind him, the “King of Destruction” watches as his armies rise up to take over the world. Under the rule of his merciless fist, whole countries will be brought under his evil organization’s control, bringing death and destruction to anyone who dares to oppose him. Bison laughs and says,

M. Bison: “THANKS TO YOU, THE WORLD IS MINE!!”

And originally:

Finally obtaining the entire world, the king of destruction rises up. Death for those living, destruction to figures. Having unleashed cruel techniques of hell’s fist, the world was brought under the evil organization. While Vega’s cape waved, he laughed.
“The world, is in my hands!”

Almost spot on, well done with understandable paraphrasing. Now to Super and ST:

M. Bison: “No one is left to interfere with my scheme now. Not even the “Ancient One” was brave enough to challenge me. The world is mine!!”

Under Bison’s rule, the world was wrapped in the darkness of one man’s evil. M. Bison, the king of chaos… Will anyone ever defeat this evil scum bag???

And originally:

Vega: “With this already, there’s no one to interfere. Now then, kneel! At my feet. The world, is mine!! Fuhahahahahahahahahahaha!!”

From that day, the hopes of all people were crushed, the world, was wrapped in darkness. The fighting king, Vega. Is there no one, to defeat him?..!

The ‘Ancient One’ ?? Sheesh, the reasonably accurate track record for him had to be dashed down low with that one sentence made up in English. Too bad, onto the Revival endings, first Turbo:

M. Bison: “Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Now there’s no one to stand in my way! No one! Kneel down before me! The world is mine!!”

On that day all the hopes and dreams of everything living were shattered and the world was shrouded in darkness and terror. The king of darkness Bison surrounds everyone, everything, and everywhere. Is there no one who can stop this man…!?

And in X:

Vega: “Fuhaha – hahahaaa!! With this, there are no more people to target! Now then, kneel! At my feet! The world, is mine!”

From that day all hope was crushed. The world was wrapped in terror… The fighting king Vega. Is there no one to defeat him??

So his targets in Japanese become his obstacles overseas, and his threat apparently needed to be emphasized with more words. Whatever, average score.

Next time, Akuma. It’ll be brief for unfortunate reasons.

Next Akuma, first the win quotes:

“…” (he’s completely mute in most SF2 editions)

Yep, this was one of his original Japanese win quotes as well. Too bad it was the only one in English for a long time. Next and showed up for Turbo Revival:

“My name is Akuma! I’m the master of fists!”

This one was taken from CPU Shin Gouki’s battle intro from X Revival:

“My name is Gouki! One become of the ultimate fist!!”

Pretty spot on except for understandable paraphrasing. Next the endings, in Super Turbo Akuma had none, but in Turbo Revival:

Akuma: “The king of darkness, how pathetic and stupid. The master of the fist will always win in the end. That is the rule of nature… What… Who’s there!?”

???: “I am your shadow… Anyone who is possessed by their own shadow must die. This means that you are finished!”

Akuma: “Humph! I have always lived in darkness. I will never fear death.”

…And then the demon disappeared. It can only be assumed that it went to find stronger opponents!

And in X:

Gouki: “The emperor of evil is it? Hmph, don’t even open your mouth. The one of the ultimate fist wins. That is all… What…are you?”

???: “I am your shadow. Death to the one who gazes upon his shadow. It’s also over for you!!”

Gouki: “Hmph! From the beginning I’m a dweller in the darkness. I cannot possibly fear the likes of death. How pretentious!”

…Where may have that carnager gone away to. He desires even more strong ones…

Again a pretty good conversion overseas. ‘Gazes at’ and ‘carnager’ had to change into ‘possessed by’ and ‘demon’ respectively for whatever reason, but otherwise not bad paraphrasing. Decent score.

End of SF2 coverage.

Next time, the Alpha series starting with SFA1 and Ryu. Win quotes will be omitted until Alpha 2 since the first Alpha sequel retained all the same win quotes from its predecessor.

Now to Street Fighter Alpha (nvm why it was called ‘Warriors’ Dreams) and first Ryu:

Final battle vs Sagat:

Ryu: “Back for more, Sagat?”

Sagat: “Every day I see this scar…and I imagine you broken at my feet. Today I will have my revenge!”

Originally:

Ryu: “You’re…Sagat!”

Sagat: “I’ve waited for this…Ryu! What this chest accepted from you…you shall not forget! The emperor’s anger…go ahead and realize it!”

So Ryu becomes more taunting overseas, and Sagat has to angrily ad lib. Then for the ending:

Sagat: “I hate you Ryu! More than ever! It’s not over! You will die!”

Sagat stares hard! Ryu ignores him! Ryu feels empty! And very upset!

Ryu: “Is that it! Great! You are weak. Sayonara! One more thing. A true warrior fights with skill not anger!”

Ryu leaves Sagat behind. As he walks away, he meditates on the true way of the warrior.

Originally:

Sagat: “Guh…I will not lose! The strongest in the world, is me…! Like you, even if it takes 2 times!”

Hatred warps Sagat’s eye. Unsightly madness and angry line of vision… Through Ryu’s heart, runs an indescribable feeling of nothingness.

Ryu: “This fist, is not something of a realistic fighter… For the true struggle, is surely in a place that’s surpassed anger also hatred. …Once more, I’ll redo this from the beginning.”

Ryu departs from before Sagat. How soon he’ll struggle onto it he doesn’t know, the path he seeks to the “true style of fighting”, for Ryu’s journey, it begins from here on.

And now the death threats start in English, and Ryu continues being brazen. Ick.

Next time, Chun-Li.

Go for Chun-Li,

Final battle vs M. Bison:

M. Bison: “Well, this a pleasant surprise.”

Chun-Li: “Stuff it Bison! You’re under arrest for drug dealing. You and Shadaloo are finished!”

M. Bison: “I have no time to waste on you!”

And originally:

Final battle vs Vega:

Vega: “Ho, a girl eh…”

Chun Li: “Finally come forth haven’t you, Vega of the narcotics organization ‘Shadoloo’! You’re under arrest!”

Vega: “Heh…going along with a little girl’s playing huh!”

So Vega goes from teasing to Bison with dismissive, and Chun-Li turns explosive overseas. Next with the ending:

Chun-Li: “Give up Bison it’s over. Now!”

M. Bison: “Such anger in such a beautiful woman. Join me or die! Either way I win.”

Chun-Li: “No thanks to both.”

M. Bison: “You’re as stupid as your father. So I’ll kill you like I did him!”

Chun-Li: “No!!!”

Almost as if in dream Chun Li cries out “Father!”

Sometime later…

Agent: “Chun Li. Are you alright?!?”

The agent explains that Bison escaped. Thailand, maybe. Chun Li has but one goal in life, to destroy Bison and avenge her father’s death!

And originally:

Chun Li: “Vega! Interpol is surrounding you, prepare yourself!”

Vega: “Not bad skills. It’d be good for you to join my organization.”

Chun Li: “It’s unfortunate but, I refuse!”

Vega: “Heh…like that formerly, was a man who had eyes the same as yours wasn’t there… He also declined my invitation… …It turned out thus!!”

Chun Li: “Kyaaaaaah!! (can’t be…he for my father…!)”

…Several days later…

Colleague: “Oh, you’ve come to, Chun Li!”

The colleague’s story with an expression of sympathy, he says that Vega is unaccounted for. Chun Li was determined. Someday for sure, with this hand she’ll strike at Vega…her father’s foe, and!

Bison continues the teasing but in English decides to swerve from her skills and instead poke at her beauty, then the death threats with his murder confession. Oh, and of course her anger overseas. And ‘Thailand, maybe’ ? Plus ‘one goal in life’ ? Ugh.

Next time, Charlie.

Now for Charlie:

Final battle vs M. Bison:

Charlie: “So, you finally show your face! I’m taking you in, Bison!”

M. Bison: “What do you want with me?”

Charlie: “You’ll have a long time to figure it out.”

M. Bison: “A pity that you shall die so young.”

Originally:

Final battle vs Vega:

Nash: “Finally I found you, Vega!! You won’t get away anymore.”

Vega: “What in the blazes sort of business do you soldier have with me?”

Nash: “One to be heard and seen on my own chest can’t it! Now, let us travel together.”

Vega: “Unfortunate isn’t it! There’s no reason for you so like a youth to suffer damage!!”

Mostly reasonable paraphrasing, although Bison became more direct with his question in English, and Charlie accordingly responds with a puzzle instead of being more explicit. Meh, whatever. Next:

Charlie: “Charlie to base. Over.”

Base: <This is base. Go ahead.>

Charlie: “Send a recon team. Looks like we got ourselves one drug lord to bring in. Tell them to come in nice and quiet. We’ve got him now. I’m taking him down hard. Base, hurry up with the back… …!”

Base: <Say again. Over. Communication br…>

Shadaloo operative: “You got to him too late. He spoke to his army base.”

M. Bison: “His army is my army. Bison rules all. Did he truly believe I would let him live. He was a fool!”

And originally:

Nash: “Nash here, you hear me??”

Wireless voice: <Yeah, I hear you. What’s the matter??>

Nash: “Come soon. At last the giant rat’s been caught. Also with the rotten troops clique, go ahead escort a bring-together to prison! Name Vega, ‘Shadoloo’ the so-called narcotics organization’s… …!!”

Wireless voice: <…? Hey, what’s wrong!? Nash! Naaash!!>

Vega’s subordinate: “Lord Vega! It seems he’s made a connection with comrades…”

Vega: “There’s no concern. I’m teaching manners to that country’s troops. However what an idiotic man. Thought he would defeat me just by himself?!”

More of the same, decent transition minus the army inclusion in English. Oddly, overseas Bison’s underling bellows out a somewhat more complaining tone rather than just an informing one. Oh well.

Next time, Ken.

Next up is Ken:

Final battle vs Ryu:

Ken: “You’re a hard man to find, Ryu. Everyone’s talking about you now.”

Ryu: “Long time no see. Still training?”

Ken: “Still good enough to beat you.”

Ryu: “We’ll see about that!”

Originally:

Final battle vs Ryu:

Ken: “Finally found ya! I’m hearing the rumors.”

Ryu: “Been awhile hasn’t it, Ken. This round you’re one who’s gotten pretty burly aren’t you.”

Ken: “This time I’m pretty tough. Wanna check for yourself?”

Ryu: “Yeah, just how I’d wish for it!!”

And they had to become dicks toward each other overseas; could’ve just kept to the paraphrasing but no. Next the endings:

Ryu: “You fight with the fury of a tiger.”

Ken: “As do you my friend.”

Ryu: “I must return to Japan. What are your plans Ken?”

Ken: “I must return home to America. Someone has issued a challenge to me.”

Ryu: “See you then!”

Ken: “Take care!”

Back in America Ken finds his challenger at a Karate tournament. After destroying the opposition he meets a very pretty girl.

Eliza: “You fight well but why do you fight? For money, fame or for the attention?”

Ken: “There’s a man that I must defeat. Until that day I will not stop. He must pay.”

Eliza: “I wouldn’t want to be him. By the way my name is Eliza.”

And originally:

Ryu: “Ken…you’ve become strong.”

Ken: “Hey, you too!”

Ryu: “For me it’s journeying again. Ken, what are you going to do?”

Ken: “Continue with training in America. Should be satisfying with the strong guys there.”

Ryu: “We’ll meet again!”

Ken: “Yeah!”

With Ken having returned to America, he participates in the Pan-American Fighting Championship. After the time the preliminaries were finishing at the grounds, he was talking with a lone woman.

Eliza: “You’re, strong aren’t you. For what sake do you fight? Money? Or is it to even become a star?”

Ken: “There’s a man that I must defeat. My sake’s for fighting him once more.”

Eliza: “Heheh, a funny one…I’m Eliza, pleased to meet you!”

So in English there’s ‘fury of a tiger’ (how cute), Ryu must go back to Japan instead of traveling, Ken’s been issued a challenge with no mention of the Pan-Am competition, Ken destroys the opposition before meeting Eliza rather than completing the prelims, and he threatens Ryu…plus Eliza isn’t as friendly for whatever reason…low score for the conversion. Too bad.

Next time, Guy.

Ready for Guy.

Final battle vs M. Bison:

M. Bison: “A new enemy? Why have you come here?”

Guy: “There is great evil within you. I will not let you succeed!”

M. Bison: “You are a fool and soon you will be gone!”

And originally:

Final battle vs Vega:

Vega: “Ninjutsu user huh… Fu…Interesting!”

Guy: “From you I sense a sinister spirit. If I don’t aim to defeat this, a disgrace to bushinryu!”

Vega: “Nuhahahaah! The boy whines!!”

So in English Bison gets surprised, and due to Guy’s straight promise Bison later snaps back equally defiant. Below average score, blech. Next:

Ending:

Guy: “Now I am ready.”

After years of practice Guy has found his inner power.

Guy: “Bison. Such power in the hands of evil. You could have been a great man. A great warrior if you tried harder. I leave you with your conscience.”

M. Bison: “You will pay for this insult Guy.”

Originally:

Guy: “I! Have gained the inner secrets!!”

He grasped the mystery in the midst of battle. It’s the completion of a new bushinryu!

Guy: “However, this guy…‘psycho power’, was with frightening techniques… If you omit the evil ways of Hades, you’d become an amazing fighter… Truly resentable…farewell!”

Vega: “… …Fuh…bushinryu eh…”

So Guy is more cocky overseas, and Bison has to be bitter. Sheesh. Same score more or less as above.

Next time, Birdie.

Okay ready for the Birdie, beginning with:

Final battle vs M. Bison:

Birdie: “So you’re the famous M. Bison. Think there’s a place for me in Shadaloo?”

M. Bison: “I have no need of weaklings.”

Birdie: “And if I maybe beat you?”

M. Bison: “Perhaps…”

And originally:

Final battle vs Vega:

Birdie: “You’re ‘Shadoloo’s’ Vega eh… How about sizing up my skill?”

Vega: “Then show me that ‘skill’.”

Birdie: “Not just like thaat! I’ll be a key officer if I win!!”

Vega: “…If you win eh…”

So a total initial dismissal from Bison overseas, which makes Birdie go from brash and aggressive to just somewhat hopeful. What an ego tear-down, average score. Next the ending:

Notorious thug turned killer, Birdie earned his place under Bison.

Birdie: “I feel like thrashing Yanks! One day mate I’ll have it all. Watch the Birdie! I’m the best there is mate. Do you well to remember that! Shadaloo!!”

Is Birdie thinking about taking over? Will he kill Bison to reach his goal?

And originally:

As Vega estimated the true ability for Birdie, he becomes a “Shadoloo” member.

Birdie: “Hehheheh, I already long ago seemed to be a cool bodyguard didn’t I! Yet with my power, before long I’ll become the top of ‘Shadoloo’!”

From there Birdie’s living certainly was in fullness.

Birdie: “Hey heeey! Who do you think I am! I’m ‘Shadoloo’s’ Lord Birdie who shuts up even crying kids!!”

With Vega defeated, he’s to become “Shadoloo’s” boss, someday?..

And then Birdie in his shortened English ending had to adlib with ‘Yanks’ and ‘mate’ without bringing up his past. Whatever, slightly above average score.

Next time, Sodom.

Okay Sodom’s up.

Final battle vs Guy:

Sodom: “You ruined my life! Time to pay the price!”

Guy: “You again?”

Sodom: “I’ll make you suffer! You’ll never interfere with me again!”

Guy: “Didn’t I beat you enough the first time?”

Originally:

Final battle vs Guy:

Sodom: “Hey, Guy! Previously, you really done it didn’t you.”

Guy: “Y…you’re from that time’s!”

Sodom: “For a 1 on 1 battle, no allow to lose! Even for the sake of my ambition!!”

Guy: “Still don’t learn by experience do you…”

So Guy’s devoid of his stoic side and instead cocky, while Sodom is is flat-out bitter and threatening overseas. Ick. Next with the ending:

Ending:

Rebuilding of Mad Gear. With new determination the Mad Gear gang begins the reconstruction of the new HQ.

Sodom: “Gentlemen! Our new gang name. We will take over. How do you like? Can you read it?”

Sodom hopes that the name will spread fear all over the world. That’s so stupid!

And originally:

Ending:

Mad Gear’s rebirth. Clear-sighted on belief for that dream, Sodom gathers his comrades from previously before him.

Sodom: “EVERYBODY! This is new TEAM’s name! Demonic Slaves Honor Evil (MADGEAR)!!”

Sodom’s hope…with that, this name will have made a roar out to the world! For we beg you, stop it already!

This time around it’s more about paraphrasing, yet in English Sodom comes off as somewhat more refined than he should be. Average to above-average score.

Next time, Adon.

This was more a case during the 8- and 16-bit era, but did the English arcade translation also have to struggle with less available space for the fonts? As a result a lot of the Japanese text was scrapped and translation simplified.
