Street Fighter in Beijing?

Guys I am sorry I am getting worse. Going to see a doctor tomorrow if I am better we will do something together on Sunday.

That’s pretty terrible. Hope you’re better soon. I am good for Sunday so hopefully then.

Other people still up for stuff?

Sure. People can come by around 3.

I hope you feel better Yannis!

Hey. Just curious if there’s anything on the go/people are alive enough to do stuff today as it is my last day in town.

Also Rod, if you read this, gotta get my controller and adapter back from you.

Geez Yanni, sorry to hear it - hope your condition improves soon! I know all too well how shitty a bad back is, get some anti imflamatories(advil) and don’t forget to move around with it, it’ll hurt but it’ll get the blood flowing through the areas. If the pain is too crazy of course rest it off.

Matt I’ll be at XZM in a few hours, so I can bring it along for you.

Hey, it was fun hanging with you guys. If I’m ever in Beijing I’ll drop you guys a line.

So good luck guys, hope you feel better soon Yannis, and so long and thanks for al the fish.

Starting off with Mat. Bro, it’s been awesome hanging out and getting games together! I am bummed out that my back decided to act up now of all times. Hope you had a safe trip. Good luck with everything and hope we meet again.

@Raas Thanks for the advice, man! My dad managed to get in touch with my doc in Greece. He told me to get the same drug I used when I first hurt my back. It’s called Voltaren and it’s an anti-inflammatory non-steroid drug. Kimy managed to find an equivalent in a pharmacy close to our home. It’s basically the same drug under a different brand. I’m starting the treatment today and hoping for the best. We’ll be couriering my CT scans back home so the doc can have a look at it. Until then I should not be flying there any time soon nor should I tire myself out.

Being bed-ridden is actually not as great as it sounds. :stuck_out_tongue: The pain at times can be really intense and on a few occasions I find it hard to get a comfortable position. But little by little it seems I’m getting better. Thank you all for your support and help, especially Jason with the awesome pill hook up.

Double post, sorry. My suspicion that SNK might have actually leaked KOF XIII on purpose just might be closer to being justified. With at least one console exclusive character announced they ensure that leaking the arcade dump won’t affect their sales. It’s still far fetched but you never know really.

the story that one on SNK employee left the SNK FTP server unintentionally open is abit farfetched, who knows…
yanis ,hope the back problems are gone cause they are really f*cking annoying.
finally the boss, the man with low tier characters, the one and only boss:MAT! good luck man, where already missing you, youre the one who always save us from our bully jason!

I was not aware of this story, honestly. Rod, Mat and I were just yapping about the leak and I just tossed out a “crackpot conspiracy theory” that SNKP might have actually leaked the game on purpose to build hype. It’s interesting that there is an actual story, though…
Thanks! Last night I was able to get a good night’s sleep after so many days of my back tearing me a new one. Hopefully the pain will go away soon so I can hop on a plane and get myself checked out. I’m really hoping I will be able to get some games with you guys this weekend!

Don’t let the thread die!!
Gents I’m feeling much much better lately so if you all are up for some casuals at my place on Sunday, by all means roll in. I’m almost back, baby!

Sorry I didn’t end up making an appearance yesterday, have been pretty ill yesterday and today (I’m blaming you, Rod much fist shaking) and had to Skype with parents at 4. I’m leaving town a week this Wednesday, so I’ll make it to the next session come hell or high water. In fact once I’ve gotten over this particular bout of disgusting China-induced illness, I’m free pretty much any day - I’m just killing time and sorting stuff out accommodation-wise here at the moment. I also need to post a suitcase or so back home at some point in the next week and was wondering if you had any experience with shipping to Europe, Yannis?

Anyone up in China got a 360 and using Xbox Live?

If so, how are connections to the service, and for online matches in SSF4 with say, Taiwan/Japan/Korea?

May be moving to the PRC pretty soon, so I would like to get some input. Also, what is voltage in China? Will I need to buy a new power brick for my 360 here in Korea, then get a new power cable for China, or should I just get a voltage adapter when I go back to the States?

Curses to Rod! China-induced illnesses are the worst. Feel better soon! You’re leaving town for good?
What I can tell you for certain is that you do not want to go with the regular post office. Several of our interns have had packages delivered to them from their homes via the regular postal service but never received them. I would suggest you check with private couriers, such as DHL and UPS. My family and I use DHL all the time to mail stuff back and forth, but they usually letters or documents (just recently I mailed them the CT scans I took for my back problem). I’m not aware of any other kinds shippers unfortunately.

Hello there! We all have PS3’s and I can personally say that connections to those regions are hit or miss. There are times where I can get full green bars with Hong Kong, Korean and the occasional Japanese player. I usually look out for HK players as I have had better success with them. I’m not sure what the situation with XBL is like. There is no official PSN or XBL in the PRC so you will be connecting to whatever region you are using now. As for voltage, China uses standard 220 V sockets. The plug is different but you can get multi-socket adapters that take all kinds of plugs from pretty much any super market. Never had a problem using EU and UK type plugs. If you have a US X360 then you might need a voltage adapter.

China-induced illness = getting infected by Rod Why all this hate

Dang then Im riding solo. ill find out later then. if its spotty i might trade out for a ps3 so we can get local matches. i know buying one isnt quite kosher but can i find them in china right?

ill be living in qingdao so meetups arent feasible.

The big problem with 360 in China is the overwhelming majority of Chinese people hack theirs right when they buy them, so no online obviously. On the plus side, games are mad cheap.

How long will you be in Qingdao?

Not going to hack my 360. I might see if I can just buy through Amazon or Gamestop, have it shipped to a friend in the States, and then have them mail them to me from them. I mean, customs isn’t going to turn something like that away, right?

That’s if I keep my 360. I would like to, since all my friends in the States have a 360, and with 3SOE and Skullgirls coming out, methinks they’ll be playing them, and I’d like to try to get matches in with them on those considering it’s GGPO. And if SC5 gets GGPO, yeah… Plus, all the games I would have to rebuy on PS3…gah, I might just try to keep my 360 and get a PS3 as well. Bright side is, my stick is already dual modded.

I’m going to be in Qingdao for at least a year. Unless things change, I’m supposed to be there by the 18th of August, and my wife and I will be on honeymoon there scoping things out on the 24th through the 30th of this month. Hearing cost of living there is super good. It worked out where my wife and I will be able to work together, and doing decent starting out considering cost of living in Qingdao.

Hi everyone,

I’m new to Beijing, I’ve been here for about 4 weeks and I’m dying to play some games. However, I do not play SF, I only play Marvel. So I have two questions:

Are there any Marvel setups in these arcades? I know there is no arcade version of Marvel but I was wondering if there were any system set ups or something?

Two, how hard is SF to pick up from no prior experience at all. All of my fighting game experience is in MvC2 and MvC3. I watch a lot of the SF streams so I have an idea of what’s going on in a match but I don’t know any of the inputs, strategies, match ups, etc. But I would love to learn how to play since I plan on buying AE once I get back to the states. Xidan is the recommended arcade for newbies and that’s the closest one to me but I was wondering if it’s worth it to even try and learn on a cabinet. I’ve never tried it before so yeah …

I also know little to no Mandarin so I probably wouldn’t be able to learn/communicate very well with any of the locals.

Thanks!

Marvel in China? That’d really be something; its a tekken/sf world out here. And KoF. Lots and lots of KoF. To answer your question, no there’s no marvel arcade setups tragically probably never will be. On the flipside I’d love to see whats going on in the outside world as far as Marvel is concerned so if you’re interested I’m sure one of our more responsible(Hi Yannis!) people can get you in the loop.

How fast you could pick up SF would really depend on how good you are at fighting games in general, if you mash through Marvel then its all scratchwork but if you know whats up then the leap isn’t going to be insane. Expect to lose quite a bit, but in general its pretty easy to figure out higher levels obviously excepting. I would not recommend Xidan as that’s probably the highest level at this point. Xizhimen is much more noob friendly although a few good players have been passing through of late…

Anyway welcome and I hope we’ll see one another eventually!
