Street Fighter III: Fourth Strike BETA

I think that ken is for the most part a balanced character and what the lower characters should be leveled up to (not in terms of gameplay or style obviously, but overall performance), but the jab shoryuken is supposed to be a low risk low reward move and the fact that you can kara a second one pretty much effortlessly and do more damage (I think it was more, cant remember) than a fierce shoryu is a serious issue from my POV.

Also I was seeing the videos again and since its pretty clear that the changes he’s making are clearly more flashy than my own concept of balance (but also more fun), I would just like to mention that speeding up the karakusa animation is kind of a nerf, thats the time I use to check the life, stun and super bars and think of a follow up ;).

Double post :c.

“but the jab shoryuken is supposed to be a low risk low reward move”

:wtf:

As opposed to the fierce SRK - it’s still decent risk though I would say and decent reward. I don’t think it’s a massive issue, enough folks stuff up that kara anyway in the middle of the screen.

Just to add - the whole ‘rebalance’ thing shouldn’t be taken seriously. I think that was just lost in translation.

I don’t know. I spoke (briefly) to RVN in GGPO chat, and he stuck with rebalance and seemed to suggest that the infinites we saw wouldn’t be in the final release.

Double Post.

Honestly I dont think that releasing this as some kind of open source project would fragment the community. Everyone that plays 3S in earnest is already going to stick with the official game. Putting this kind of knowledge into the public sphere would serve to foster even cooler projects in the future. This is exactly the kind of community push we need to get the creative juices flowing. People that know how to reverse engineer and hack these kinds of systems are very few and far between.

I agree, because the same effort would be VERY welcome for zero 3 and SSF2X as well, instead of Sirlin’s ugly, ugly looking bastardisation that’s HD remix.

I disagree with this. Once the project becomes ‘open source to the public’, we can imagine the consequences.
You probably know how big the internet community for the game is. Big enough that more than 100 different versions of the game be made and spread around everywhere.
Once it becomes public, almost everyone will try to make their own edit… resulting in… problems…
such as people arguing over what is balanced and what is not, whose version to play, etc, etc.

Just think like this:
That this cannot be an ‘open source project’ like VLC Media Player where it gets made into one single version that targets gradual perfection.
But instead it would be like… Counter Strike/Half Life Mods… where there are many different versions, causing much further division in the community.
And this game’s community cannot afford any more division.

It would be good to make some sort of wiki at least - where everything can be focussed and collaborated. An SRK thread isn’t going to hold up, a better system is needed.

It would also be good to know what is and isn’t possible.

Another idea: Give every character the ability to combo off of MP+MK overhead. Some can, but only with super, but give some characters at least one basic combo.

You may now flame me.

The thing is that I honestly don’t think the loyal 3S players will become divided by a few hacks to a ROM, even if they are well done hacks, nobody is going to drop 3rd strike to “seriously” play a hack. People will play these kind of things for fun, and possibly mess around with them with the intention to learn and create. At least that’s my opinion. I really don’t think a project such as this will fragment the 3S community at large.

At least on GGPO (probably the largest collection of 3S players outside of the Japanese base) people come and go all the time, but the serious players never go away because they really like to play 3S. Those are the types of players that I don’t think any ROM-hack could pull away from such a great game as 3S.

Even if you don’t want to share your work with everyone it would be cool to hear how you did it. I am fairly impressed that you seem like you were able to edit so much of the game and this kind of knowledge is basically totally obscure. You aren’t going to see mass editing of the 3S ROM even if you were to lay it all out, since few people possess the technical knowledge, skills, or wherewithal to accomplish such a task.

3S on GGPO is pathetic. There’s maybe a handful of really good players on there. The rest are scrubs who only use lag tactics (such as spam hurricane kick with Akuma, spam Shoto sweep, Urien’s dash basically being a teleport, inescapable Makato command grabs, etc).

"As opposed to the fierce SRK - it’s still decent risk though I would say and decent reward. I don’t think it’s a massive issue, enough folks stuff up that kara anyway in the middle of the screen."
Yeah, I was comparing it to the other SRK’s in the game, and yes, it IS a (very) small issue, but you can tell thats not the way the game designers wanted it to be, the damage you get of that kara is awesome (in a bad way).

And I do have to say, I would play the shit out of this simply because though I love 3rd strike, I’d love to play against more different chars a lot more, now that we’re this far in to the games life its only YunChunKens and some DudleyUrien now and then, this will make things a lot more varied once (and if) it comes out, since everyone will be trying different things, if only just for fun (thats why we play, right?).

Oh and Louis, you should refuse to play anyone with more tan 60ms of ping, that does wonders for me, and RVN have you considered releasing a beta for feedback? You can get some decent ideas out of that kind of things once in a while.

u r bad

GGPO sucks. Bad lag. Bad games. No good for 3rd strike. In the arcade it’s a different story yay. Maybe some of you are new to the internet but this = Joke. Relax.

renic trolled you IRL, and u r bad

So I heard SBO was using this version for the tournament this year?Kuroda demanded it apparently. Can anyone confirm?

If it turns out that your hack garners no community, would you then be willing to reveal your decryption method?

RVN, how long did it take you to build this re-edit?

i honestly doubt (m?)any other 3s heads would have the dedication to make their own complete hack. everyone should just be grateful we have a sick new SF game without dumbed down gameplay and horrible 3D graphics.
