Good games to everyone I played tonight. Especially Cuthbert 80, who plays a really sick dhalsim. Just crazy lockdown patterns and incredible timing :looney: Good stuff man!
Cuthbert has a really good Sim but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t post here. He is a good player, though, we’ve played many times. Too bad Honda eats Sim’s scrawny ass, LOL.
Yeah, I wasn’t sure if he posted here or not. His dhalsim is really good, but I was actually surprised that he didn’t do better against Honda. That is a really tough match. I play that matchup a lot with a friend of mine who likes Honda a lot, and while it’s really frustrating sometimes, it’s certainly winnable. We probably go 50/50 on average.
The trick to beating Honda with Sim is that you’ve gotta keep him away for the most part. The lockdown tactics that Cuthbert seemed to like using so much simply doesn’t work against a decent Honda. His light torpedo is just too good. It’s relatively easy to time, has invincibility, and even if he trades with you he comes out ahead. You have to be really patient, make sure your timing is spot on, and try not to make any mistakes…it only takes one or two for you to lose the match.
But it’s not all grim for sim. Standing lt. punch will shut down a lot Honda’s game. You can use it to poke him out of the torpedo, use it as AA against his body splash(if spaced properly), and even poke him out of his sumo splash(if spaced properly). Doing that will cause a lot of Honda players some confusion. A really good honda player will mix up the torpedo speeds, however, which makes it much harder to time right. And eating a torpedo usually leads to a lot of follow up damage, since honda can jump in and throw or do HHS. But, if you sense that they’ll mix up their torpedos a bit, you can either a)defend, b)jump back and drill, c)do an empty jump back and throw when you land, or d)slide under the torpedo and punch, throw, or combo depending on where you end up.
So, once you shutdown his torpedo game, there’s really only two ways he can get in on you. He can either jump in or do the sumo splash. You can beat most jump ins with various moves, depending on the spacing. If Honda is far away an early MK or FK usually works well. Sometimes this trades, but even if you take more damage, you win by keeping him away. From closer up you can beat almost all jump ins with a well-timed ducking MP or FP. Again, even if you time it wrong and he blocks it, he gets pushed back, which is good for you. The only jump-ins that are really problematic are the MK splash from medium distance, and his FK from closer up. If he does the MK splash up close you can lt-punch him with no problem and follow that up with a punch or a yoga fire to knock him back. But from a medium distance away, you can’t get close enough and none of your other AA options work very well. So from that distance, either blocking or throwing a yoga fire that he’ll block when he lands are the best options. Every once in a while don’t do anything and simply walk up slowly and throw him when he lands. You’ll catch him totally off gaurd. But don’t try this often! If he sees it coming, you’ll eat it! The close jump-in FK is tough. It’s deceptive. It looks like you can lt-punch him, and sometimes you can, but if you guess wrong on this one you eat a LOT of damage and he’ll be right up in your business. The safest option is just blocking. However, be alert when he lands. He’s worked hard to get in on you he’ll likely walk in for a throw, start up HHS and walk in then do some mix-ups, etc. Once he lands you need to assess the situation quickly. If he starts up HHS, make sure you block low immediately. As soon as you get pushed out of range, jump back and throw out the appropriate attack to get him off of you. Even if it means trading. If he doesn’t start up HHS, throwing out a lt-punch or two is often a good call. That’ll stop, or at least delay his throw attempts most of the time. At this point, if he’s still close to you, you have a couple of options. A slide into FP throw is handy to get him back out of there. Another solid tactic whenever he’s up on you is one or two low medium kicks(they combo), cancelled into a Yoga Flame. The flame is important here. A good honda will do a lt-punch reversal headbutt right at the end of your medium kick(s). It will go right through a Yoga Fire and nail you clean. But, with the flame you’ll either trade or hit him clean. Even if he blocks, all of these things lead to pushing him back out, which is what you want.
Ok, so you’ve shut down his torpedo and you’ve got an AA plan for jump-ins, and some follow ups if he does start to get in. So what should you do? If it’s not obvious yet, your basic gameplan for this match should revolve around throwing lots of Yoga Fire and using your AA options when he tries to jump over them. By mixing up the speeds of the fire and knowing when to AA and when to simply push him back when he lands, you’ll frustrate him and chip away at his health. The only other thing we haven’t covered is his Sumo Splash. A good Honda will use this move quite a bit. It can go through your fireballs and get him in closer. It’s usually a better option for him than jumping your fireballs, even if it is a bit trickier to do. If your playing someone who can do this pretty reliably, then try to always put yourself at the optimal spacing, which is just a little outside of the range of his fierce sumo splash. If you do this, then you have a lot of options when he does the splash. You can hit him out of it as he’s landing with a well timed st. LP or st. FK(The knee move). However, it’s easy to screw up the timing of those, and you’ll be at a huge disadvantage if you get hit. So don’t do that unless you’re sure you’ve got the timing/spacing down. A nice move is to walk in as he’s coming down and throw him right when he lands. As with all walk-in throws, this will catch many people off gaurd. But don’t get too cocky with it! Sometimes you just want to throw out a fire, or throw out a st. FP to push him back. A well timed slide into MK -> Flame, or slide into FP throw also works well. You can also throw in an occasional jump into a drill that hits him late in his move. More than any other attack, you need to mix this response up so that he has less of a chance of reading you. If you get too predictable, he’ll punish you. You need to keep him guessing so that you can push him back out.
So, you’ve got a good game plan, but what if it starts to fall apart? What if he gets in on you and gets you backed into the corner? If that happens, your not in a good spot. You’re probably gonna eat a lot of damage and may lose the round. BUT…if you want a chance to survive, you need to focus! Be patient and time your attacks perfectly. Their strategy will rely on getting a throw or knocking you down so they can spam you with HHS. Do NOT try to jump around a lot. Most good Hondas will meet you in the air with a sumo splash, jump splash/kick you, or make you land on a torpedo. Just stay still. They’ll do one of four things: 1. Torpedo, 2. Sumo Splash, 3. Walk in and try to throw you, or 4. Start up HHS and walk toward you. Here’s how you should handle those situations:
-
Torpedo
This is one of the attacks that works most in your favor. The safest option is to st. LP him out of the torpedo and follow that up with a st. FP or fire to try to get some space. The downside to this is that the st LP can be hard to time if he mixes up the torpedos and you’re still left in the corner, even if you do have more space. A better but riskier option is to slide underneath him as he torpedoes. When in doubt, I suggest the MK slide. If you succeed, now he’s corned instead of you. Don’t go after him, just hit him with attacks to push you back out a bit. However, if the Honda player is good he’ll do a LP or MP torpedo. If you don’t do your slide late enough, or you slide too little, or don’t slide far enough away you’ll either get hit or eat a lot of damage when you get up. -
Sumo Splash.
This is the toughest of his attacks in the corner. You’re best option is to just block it and hope like hell he doesn’t get a throw when he lands. If he comes down in front of you, instead of right on top of you, you can try st. LP or st. FK. But again, those are tough to time. If you anticipate that he’s going to do this move and it’s spaced such that he’ll come down right on top of you, it is possible to slide as soon as he gets up into the air such that you slide under him and come out on the other side just far enough away to not get hit. I’d advise against this tactic unless you’re really good at it or have no other options(ie One blocked move will kill you). If you succeed with this, you can throw him or just jump and get the hell out of there when you land. But if you fail, you’ll get hit hard by the splash, or thrown, or comboed, etc. You can also try to teleport out. But that too is easy to mess up and hard to time. Again, I’d only advise this if you’re good at it or you’re desparate. -
Walk in throw
Walk in throws are always tough. If he hits the button too early, you’ll end up eating a punch before you get thrown. You can’t react late to this at all. You need to be looking for it immediately once he gets close to you in the corner. If you see him walk forward throw out a st. LP. Be aware, if a st LP connects it will only delay his progress for a second, it won’t stop him in his tracks. So, if a st LP ever connects, immediately do one of two things. Either do a low MK -> Yoga Fire or jump. I recommend jumping. It’s not necessarly a safer option, but it gives you a bit of time to figure out what to do next. If he stops, do a very late drill into cr MK -> Flame or a late punch or kick in the air and IMMEDIATELY throw a fierce fireball when you land. If he keeps walking in, you’re in trouble. You’ll probably get slapped out of the sky or worked over when you land. If he does this, you best bet is to try to escape with a Yoga Mummy. -
Start up HHS and walk toward you
This is the most likely that will happen. All the scrubs will do it to you, and most of the decent players will do it some of the times. Let’s face it, the HHS is a brain dead move that does tons of damage even if you block. Why wouldn’t you use it? If he starts this up in the corner there’s not much you can do on the ground to stop it. Sure, technically you can hit the end of his hands with st. LP, but that does no damage and doesn’t really slow him down. Instead, you should jump straight up. If you’re lucky they’ll keep going with the hands or will not be able to stop them fast enough. What you want to do is throw out a medium kick timed as early as you can, to keep him out, but just late enough so that you land just before he recovers from hit/block stun, the IMMEDIATELY do a fierce yoga fire. This works a lot better than you might expect. But the timing is a little tricky. If you mess up, you’re gonna eat some hands on the way down. Finally, if he does stop the hands by the time you reach the apex of your jump, then watch really closely. If he attacks(st. FP works well), either do a really late drill or nothing at all and throw a fire when you land. If he doesn’t attack just use the medium kick -> fire strategy as you would have.
Some things to avoid doing:
-
DO NOT do a slide into Honda when he’s charged up. At best you’ll get a throw. But he might throw you instead and follow up with HHS. He might also do a LP Headbutt and hit you clean. Worst of all, he can do a Sumo Splash, which will hit you twice for big damage and dizzy you, which will allow him to follow up with a hug, followed by HHS. That can easily take of ~70% of your life! Yikes! :looney:
-
Do not do a deep drill on him. You’ll eat a hug and some hands for massive damage every time. Do all of your drills so that you barely graze him. This will hit him high some times and will often hit his attacks clean, or at least trade.
-
Do not throw out too many limbs from far away. His torpedos will kill you and most of his normal attacks will either hit you clean or trade in his favor.
Closing thoughts:
As I said, this is a tough match. Dhalsim has a lot of tools at his disposal, but even with the tactics I’ve listed above, it’s an up-hill battle. You need to be focused and respond immediately to and attacks he pulls. This is tough to do offline, and is even tougher online. And keep in mind that your main objective is to keep him away and chip away at him. You should try to always be ahead in health and do things that annoy him. That will cause him to make more mistakes. Finally, in the spirit of that, realize that there’s no shame in winning by a time out. It will take a lot of hits to kill him if you stick to the moves that are safe. Just keep at it. When the clock gets low, expect some heroic attempts on his part. Punish his mistakes, and run away if you must. Just make sure you don’t get pummelled in the corner in the last 10 seconds of the match :wgrin:
Whew! Well, that was a lot longer than what I planned on writing. I hope that info is useful to someone :wonder:
thats too many words to read
ggs livinglegend.
LOL. Yeah, I did get a bit carried away
LOL, seems like you know the match-up well, though. Send me a FR, I’d like to get some more good Honda v. Dhalsim match-ups besides those against Cuthbert 80 and his mini-clone gilbert 40.
Good Games to Chemistren82 the other day, really great matches.
ggs possum, decoy, and v for violence.
1 hit dizzy > blanka
LOL, you noticed that eh? That’s the power of the killer crossup. You can thank Maxstah for that one. GG’s.
EDIT: LOL, stupid me. You were referring to Gief. Haha The killer crossup is still cool.

Well yeah, it’s Jakob posting, the guy that screwed up the rankings system twice and is not good at all? Great!
when the hell are u guys on… i never get to play or catch yall online at the right time… koop need some heavy handed competition… my CE bison tatics are gettin tiresome…
Koop
Every time we’re on at the same time, we just end up seeing who will get the top score in Lumines challenge mode. Although I will invite you to the next RB6 session I have…
yeah thats either me or my girl doin the lumines… rb6 definitely… an i will invite u as well if my crazy crew is on…
xbox should have a way to let friends enter if that particular friend is controllin or winning in a room
oh an is anyone attending FRX in atlanta… I will be there…
Exactly how did i screw up the ranking system twice DT? Yeah i f’d it up once thanks to a little help from the biggest piece of sh*t in the world jorge avila but i haven’t quit in months. So how did i screw it up the second time? Oh wait yeah i forgot i used that Super X360 3000 modchip i bought off of cheatinassgamerz.com.
Dumbest post on the internet know that would be dekor complaining about screen campers when thats all he does himself.
I never said AfroCole is bad but in HF for 360 his rank is awful (around 900ish last time i played him) and he is not even a challange. I’m sure he is godlike offline in Super Turbo and probably offline with a stick in hf but on for 360 no. For 360 not Hf in general i can’t say nothing about anyone i’ve never played offline. But judging by his slew of Evo victories i’m sure he’s pretty damn good.
And DT you say i’m crap last time i played you a few months back in quarters under my Boogeyman account name i actually beat you 2 out of 4 times. And every match was close. So let me guess Jakob002 sucks but Boogeyman is good right?
Seriously though i want to play you in Anniversary. My stick officially broke last night after a night of hassle with it but i’m probably gonna buy me a Decoy stick this week. I need to get some more practice with my ST Vega it was doing good untill my stick went bonkers lol.
Why do you hug Decoy’s nuts so much?
Jake- Thank you for explaining your statement a little bit, but keep in mind online casual matches aren’t the best way to determine a player’s skill. I hate to speak on the behalf of other players, but my guess is Afrocole probably doesn’t play all that often online, as is with the case of most OG players.
Is Tengu Steve one of your side accounts? I think I’ve played that one before… if so, why the need for so many?
Jakob on SRK now too? Is nowhere safe?! LOL.
LOL Tengu Steve one of my alts where the heck did that one come from. The guy barley can speak english and has a connection so awful makes you think your playing a bad horror flick. I thought Ray was bad. My alts are as follows
jakob002 (main account)
Jakob001 (trial account)
Jacob002 (old xbox account)
Duh Boogeyman (trial account)
Duh Boogeygirl (forum joke account)
Evo002 (silver account to promote Evo)
IwillPissYouOff (trial account)
Who came up with the idea of Tengu Steve it’s pretty funny though that’s almost as bad as when i was accused of being jorge avila. I’ve known Steve since doa4 he only used the character Tengu he was pretty good with him to like an A+. His old tag was Steve0511 then he changed it to Tengu Steve so i’m sure he is known within the Doa community.
Online games actually mean a little bit in Anniversary except all the droppers like
Pezman 81
CMPS1
MVC2 Master
Beef Bowl
HotBishop
and the random scrubby people (especally the Akuma and WW Guiles). In about 1200 matches i’ve fought around 400 WW Guiles. and might have lost 4 times to him. There really isn’t any good competiton on that game anymore though everybody is stuck to the crap HF. I whould like to play Afro Legends with my ST Vega but i only seen him online one time and my Xbox wasen’t even hooked up at the time. Other than that the only good player i’ve played was Whole New Geo. More people need to quit waiting for it to be B/C and play it on original Xbox i need some practice damnit.
But look at it like this online for HF. AfroCole probably never adjusted to the lag from h3ll it took me awhile to adjust to it i use to drop on Half the Hondas i played because my timing was off. The game lags too much and i think people need to stop giving there money to M$ and buying the garbage game. I might find myself on it about once a month nowdays. I play alot better on Anniversary because i can actually do combos due to less lag and a half decent stick (thats now deceased). And even if it lags it’s not as bad since you can just turn the speed up to turbo 4.
VT i’m not up Decoy’s a** i just called it the Decoy stick although it’s also the Dekor stick too. Still don’t know if i can afford it though i might have to stick with a $99 MAS stick if there any good. And why don’t you take a p*ss on HF and show me that ST Balrog on AE that’s “not in my league” i need to fight a good Balrog.
And Possum i actually came here to check out info about Evo and of course i checked out the HF thread since it’s impossible to go on a Street Fighter forum with Jakob getting trash talked. But i just want to find out some more stuff about Evo and what players are going.
P.S you are VT right? Your not Dekor aka IllEaturChildren i heard Savleas was VT’s alt.
