The story is great as usual but t is the Chamba’s art that i have few problems with.
The inking is almost inexistent and some characters look really really weird in some shots like the last panel featuring ken, when he is the kitchen, he has larger front teeth and weird mouth and really look nothing like ken. Ryu on the other hand is well drawn throughout most of the issue.
The backgrounds as some other people have already mentioned are way too empty and represent the main drawback for Chamba’s style. Examples for that will be:
the Clinic shot, shows the clinic in the middle of nowhere.
The background in the Cammy/thawk fight is most of the time pinkish/violet color with no other element.
The penitentiary also looks in the middle of nowhere, and the inside shots are all blurry so you can only see the front panel characters and the back is very blurry.
the us interpol headquarters also appear in the middle of nowhere
the shot where Julia and eliza are abt to get into the car: there is litteraly nothing but white greyish color behind them for the clouds.
The pub in alasaka again same issue appears to be in the middle of nowhere.
I really like the story though and cannot wait for next issue, but again, we have gotten used to Udon’s GREAT quality of SF comics and gotten used to the anime/manga style of drawings which clearly is not featured in the new series. Although Arnold Tsang and Alin lee’s art are different from each other you can still feel that they are in the same realm. They are both very anime and asian like while Chamba’s style reminds me of some european (mainly belgium) comic book art style.
Joe Ng’s style on the other hand is very very reminiscent of Alvin’s and Tsang’s art style and should have been the person to do Street Fighter II turbo in my opinion.
I am sorry if i feel negative towards Chamba but im just trying to give a constructive argument and opinion here. I am sure Udon wants to release the comics on schedule and all but the schedule should never interfere with the quality of the book and i hope the next issues will be better in terms of art.
Again great job Udon and i will always support you guys for making our dreams of a good street fighter book come true and i really really hope that chamba’s art will improve to be on par with Tsang and Alvin lee.
ps: you guys got me so excited wen i saw street fighter IV comic series coming in 2009 :woot: :woot: :woot:
Art is OK, Chamba’s art’ll prob. be better over time. Didn’t like the colouring however.
Hope they eventually explain why Cammy is working for Shadaloo again.
I know most of the series has been laid out already, but I hope Ken Siu Chong really shakes things up next issue. #1 was pretty disappointing for me.
I didn’t really need a rethread of everybody’s status quo, since the last series was little more than setup for this one. Ken’s appearance here was utterly worthless. Balrog and Guile, less so, since we need to know how Balrog got out of prison, and Guile at least helped inform us about Shadaloo’s state of affairs. Still, waaay too much time spent on those sequences, and too little delivered. The only thing that registered as mildly interesting was Akuma’s appearance at the end.
I’m gonna buy and read through the whole series, but I hope this is the last of the setup issues. Every major conflict’s been set up already. Unless they’re going to introduce some drastically different status quo (and I don’t see how they can), let’s just turn up the crazy and let em go at it. If they got to tell us how Eliza or some secondary character is doing, keep it brief or find some way to tie it to the big picture.
wow. the sf turbo comic was excellent just like all the rest. looking forward to the next few issues. but Udon, please, what is going on with the sf 3 comic that is supposed to start in Jan-Feb? it doesn’t mention it in the issue. please understand why sf fans are a little concerned.
Rufus is serious business, he don’t fit well with Dan.
How about a Dan and Blanka buddy-cop style story?
…and the El Fuerte cover is pretty weak I’m sad to say, its like those covers where you don’t know what to show to give an idea of the story and just slap in a character in a pose or such.
Rufus personality wise is a big joke. He’s on the slow side mentally. Once you see him in the game homeboy has a wall of text for a win quote. Not to mention, he ‘thinks’ he’s the strongest American fighter and he runs around confusing people for Ken, like what do you think is going to happen when he runs into Dan?
Thanks for the welcome, Sano. Now, as the SF comics have returned, I’ve returned too :lovin:
Havent seen the other tread firsthand! Perhaps there is a possibility now that the comics this tread was originally made for returned to make a separate thread for all the mainstream comics? Or at least a special symbol one could put in front of the title of the tread that distinguishes those about SF and other ones?
Keep up the great job, Udon & Sano. Its nice to be back! :dp::hp:
