For some reason, Hyper Street Fighter 2 seems more appealing than 3S…
I think I know where the complaints are coming from.
You know all those people who tried to tell you that ps2 was better than xbox and would never buy one. They just lost the last leg they had to stand on. Chop! Chop!
But no, on a serious not. I am very happy about this news.
We’ll see what happens when the game comes out.
Everyone is so busy being considered ‘perfect’ that they never have a chance to play any game. These points about perfection are all pretty minor. If you want to get technical, you can never ‘practice’ a real life tournament situation, so why play at all?
A lot of people have played online games since they were invented, most of the best people online were great offline anyway. The exception is that you might not be able to do random dps or lucky shorts into supers every time, the rule is that its still the same game, and offers more overall than anyone has right now.
If not being able to practice robotic combos makes 3s terrible, then it’s just a shitty game that resembles whack-a-mole more than a fighting game.
I’d like to think it has some more value than that, if i’m wrong, then i’ll find out when it goes live and i can stop wasting my time playing it and leave it to the ‘experts’ such as yourself.
Look, the simple fact of the matter is this:
3s, (as well as like all new school games I guess) revolves around landing your meter. This is because hitting someone with your meter does waaay more damage then hitting them with a few pokes typically.
So how are you going to land your meter? You dont want to try to do it randomly, as if you get a super blocked, you eat massive damage. If you only do it as punishment for your opponent’s mistakes, you wont be pressuring them at all during the match.
So you need ways to spend your meter on offense at times that you KNOW it will connect. There are really a few specific ways you can do this, but ultimately, they all involve reaction time.
Not ONLY reaction time of course… you have to SET UP the situation in which you expect your opponent MAY get hit by a ken low strong for example. But after that set up, if you cant react to whether the low strong actually connected, the brilliance of your setup is nullified.
So 3s does not equal whack a mole. Its more like 3s = part strategy/thinking game, and part whacka mole.
If you can’t understand what brian is talking about, then I don’t know why you even play SF.
All that stuff about not being able to react to certain things, and the overall effect it will have on gameplay is 100% true. I play CvS2 online. The game is completely different than it is in the arcade.
Even though it is a dumbed down version of the game, it is still fun though. You just have to understand that Live games don’t really mean anything because both players are being handicapped the moment they sign into XBL. The games are dumbed down, because let’s face it, on the whole, we’re all too damn good for our own good. Even average players that come to this site understand their characters down to single frames. Online play was never meant for players like us.
What you have to do is just dumb it down a little bit. It’s still fun, and the best players still seem to dominate (CaliPower still owns up every single person on CvS2 Live). All the people complaining about lag should just buy the shit anyway. As frustrating as matches can be, in the end their still much more fun than playing the computer. Even if you have loads of comp, when you get that itch to play at 11 PM on Tuesday night, no arcade can satisfy that. XBL does.

Online we can talk about mistakes and pressure freely, but in game the line is much more gray. Technically anytime you hit your opponent they made a ‘mistake’, but OTOH you have to make mistakes to win, they just get disguised as strategy on the replays.

How is it nullified? the setup worked, and you can practice connecting the super in training mode if your not sure if you can hit it. The two things are unrelated: 1) if the setup works, 2) reacting to super in the required time… you can always practice 2, now you can practice 1. If your sparring you can’t practice knocking your partner out, but you can go hit a punching bag instead. It’s much easier to crank out some combo that’s already in your muscle memory than to calculate frames of setups you’ve never seen or known about before.
We’re not replacing evo or training mode with xbox live, it’s just another option that does not exist now. People talk like they WANT less options, like it’s better to sit around and pretend they are in japan already and don’t need anything else. the funny thing is that some people there will probably appreciate it more, what can i say, they love the game, maybe some of us don’t as much anymore.

I can see that, now we just gotta get these big ass hammers to work on xbox.
The fact that lag will probably effect people’s ability to parry won’t bother me as I could never parry for shit anyway
I knew there was a reason I bought X-Box. This is the best news to hit X-Box since the announcement of Doom3. And Halo2.
online console play (to me) is the future of sf.
Now I have to buy another Xbox to put in my cabinet… and I will be happy to do it.
Agreed I play MvC2 yet I dont get all hyped up about it… I like GGXX,CvS2,3s, and Alpha 3 just as much maybe even more.
I can Parry Multi hit supers on XBL with P-groove and the timing is shorter than Xbox. Linking isnt hard at all.
sniff God I love my Xbox now. It was a great decision for me to buy Xbox for DOA3. I’m looking forward to this more then Halo 2 thingy.
Lol
DOA fans REPRESENT!

You’ll change your mind when the game comes out.
Those of you who don’t think you can do shit on XBL here is a link for you. Hope it helps.
Any competition…laggy or not… is better than the competition I have now… ABSOLUTELY NONE!!!
