Street fighter EX thread(EX, EX+, Ex+@, EX2, EX2+, EX3)

Back by popular demand I’ll give my updated EX3 tier list. I’m not too sure where to place everyone EXACTLY in each tier mainly due to teams enhancing a charcters performance (Garuda with Dhalsim for example) but everyone inside the tier does belong there. I’m also not taking infinites into account since some are simply too hard to pull consistently, are sometimes character specific, etc.

God Tier:

Kairi
Evil Ryu
*Ace

These two simply have everything going for them inside the EX3 engine. They are both great at keep away or rushdown, they build meter fast, excellent momentarys for 100% safe blocked combos, they can both hold their own by themselves and are capable of easy comebacks, high damage combos, etc. I put Evil Ryu in this tier and not normal Ryu mainly because he has just about everything Ryu has plus a super dragon punch super, a better hurricane kick, and can build meter faster. There is no reason to ever pick normal Ryu over Evil Ryu in EX3.

Top Tier:

Rosso
Dhalsim
Garuda - only here due to his CP
Shadow
Bison
D. Dark
Area
Ryu
Guile

All these characters have good tag potential, unpunishable chip combos, etc. Rosso has easy 50+% combos via one super bar and a tag, Dhalsim is like the Cable of EX3 with his keep away and Yoga Drill Superx3 loop. If you want more specifics on each charcter just ask, its far too much too type.

Middle Tier:

Ken
Blanka
Zangief
Darun
Chun Li
Skullomania
Pullum
Sharon - borders on bottom tier depending on opponent
Sagat
Hokuto
C. Jack

Now we start getting into having to work much harder for results. All these characters can be good, but mainly due to a good partner. They can’t break defense all that great and most of the time cannot make comebacks when left alone. They also lack any good tag set ups and usually left vulnerable more times than they should. With most, mind games are going to be even more crucial here and once your opponent catches on its going to be an uphill battle.

Bottom Tier:

Nanasae
Vega
Sakura

Horrendous tag potential, can’t break defense, etc. Aside from combo follow ups off tags these guys simply were given the shit end of the stick in EX3.

Again sorry if this is not in depth enough, but if you want character specifics just ask for that one in particular, hope this helps somewhat. Shinji you care to debate that list or did I place it accurately enough?

you’re asking someone with like no match experience to debate the list :stuck_out_tongue:

that seems fie to me

It’s sad to see how far nanase has fallen.

She was so good in EX2+.

I agree with a lot of your tier list, but why put Ace there? Or are you basing him on his set of normals? We all know he can theoretically be god tier, but are you basing this on his normals alone, or the fact that he can add whatever special moves he wants?

I don’t have Evil Ryu on my save. Was he intended to be a playable character?

Few comments about some random things I saw, everythign else I pretty much agree with.

Sim is the Cable of EX3, i definetely gotta agree He’s a fucking monster with the loops and combos that he has, but his upclose game sucks ass when he has no meter. He doesn’t seem to be able to fight at all without it!!

I don’t think Sharon/Sagat/Chun are as bad as you make them seem, those are the only gripes I have on that tier list. While they don’t have the beastly CP that make them god tier like some of the other characters, all of them (especially Chun-Li) have godlike footsies that make up for it. Chun’s low forward, standing fierce, and low rh are pretty damn godlike in this gam, considering theyre normal limbs. Also Sagat’s low rh, standing rh, stand fwd etc. I guess you can see where I’m getting at here, i’ll post more later in any case.

Anyway, this is a good tier list. I agree with almost all of it. Nanase got fucking raped in EX3, so did Hokuto from her EX1 incarnation. (wtf, did they do to her low rh?? and close fierce??)

Regarding the top tier…

Rosso, it’s obvious as to why he’s good, he has too fucking much. Mixups up the ass, counters, pressure, low jump…he has it all. Shadow just keeps you in blockstun forever and can keep the pressure on, forcing you to make a guess or get thrown/comboed. I guess most of the top tier has pretty much safe shit that forces you to guess, that’s why theyre god tier.

Anyway I’ll probably post more later.

I believe he put Ace where he did, due to 2 infinites (though he said that he wasn’t including those in the tierings), he also could be set up in some fashion to mess in with his tag partner. He also doesn’t suffer as much from damage scaling as other characters. An unblockable setup, and can be configured to be a great combo starter and ender.

At least thats why I think Jester placed him up so high.

For Dhalsim, a proper zoning game helps him out, and his immense juggles help him build up the bar he needs for his Yoga Drill loops (which if done properly, his zoning could set him up for his juggle which would lead to his yoga drill loop).

Though I could be wrong ^.^

On his specials and normals I suppose. He has two infinites and an unblockable set up, I’d say he’s quite broken.

Yeah, just hold select when Ryu is highlighted, he’s supposed to be there.

Hes good up close also, in fact I play him more aggrevise than defensive. Instant MK drills, crouching MK into Yoga Fire, etc. I mainly try to poke at them enough to jump in order to set up the Yoga Blast into Drill loops, or if they really start turtling when I do this I toss in Yoga Grabs to force them to attack or jump.

Sharon is horrible IMO, for such a fast character you can interupt any of her moves with ease. Her whole Gale Hammer Punch mix up game is useless since its not nrealy fast enough to fool anyone. I even incorporated momentarys in there to make what were supposed to be really confusing guessing games, but sadly due to her recovery and lack of speed there opponents need mot worry what she is going to do next since 99% of it can be interupted.

I don’t like Sagat for a few reasons. First his momentarys don’t leave him safe when blocked since a low Tiger shot followed by a P momentary whiffs on crouching opponents, and since a Low Tiger is blocked low it makes it useless outside of combos. The only thing hes got going for him is his shallow jump height and cross up MK, but going down the line it doesn’t compensate enough for his other weaknesses.

Chun Li I suppose can be upper mid tier, but she lacks any decent combo set ups off of a tag besides her standing HP or crouching MK into QCFx2+kick. I don’t like how vulnerable Hienshu is either, it l;eaves her SO open to free Yoga Blasts, Darun Catches, DPs, etc. Her projectile is near useless also. She plays a good hit and run game, but in EX3 thats not a good style. I consider her like a beefed up Vega, but thats not saying too much.

Anyway, this is a good tier list. I agree with almost all of it. Nanase got fucking raped in EX3, so did Hokuto from her EX1 incarnation. (wtf, did they do to her low rh?? and close fierce??)

sharon is DEFINITELY NOT up there. like jester already pointed out, there are just way too many gaps in her game. trust me, it doesn’t take long for any competent EX3 player to find loop holes in sharons offense. she’s defintely low middle tier as far as i’m concerned.

oh shit Gen’s still alive ^.^

hi wb gen, long time no see!

Did anybody get this secret command press figured out in the end?

for me, that always happened randomly.

sup guys! i’m actually in st. lucia right now. i’ll be back late january.

for me it happens ramdomly when i do it…

I’ve got one Jester. Garuda’s ranking for his CP, how does this setup work, and where does he fit in without Dhalsim?

I haven’t checked out this thread in a week but Jester and Gen thanks for the clarification. Hopefully we all get to play sometime.

i agree with the notes on sharon, she can definetely get interrupted between her hit strings, and thats why you guys think she sucks. i dunno, i have success with her, but then again i dont know the ins and outs of the engine by trying to go for 100% combos, i just play with general knowledge.

whats your thoughts on her level 3 that acts like a grab up close and a bullet from far away? it seems to have a lot of range but i’ve had it dped out of before.

The thing about Garuda’s CP is that it can be set up from almost everything. From certain throws, most normals, specials, and supers.

So you could do Bisons Kick Throw, then go into the CP.
Or c.mk, shuga, CP

Or just about any successful attack.

I’m surprised on that too. I like using her on SFEX3.

And one tip for those that are going to do that Gaurda 100+ Hit CP:

Never have a partner with a QCFx2+Kick super. Cause during CP, the partner’s Super will go off and the CP paridise time still goes down, during super freezes.

Skullomania should be banned from tournaments. He’s too powerful. Skull 4 Life

why game and why?

Not in EX3, thats for damn sure, lower-mid tier at best.
