i love u guys! so happy to know u folks are still going strong with this thread and supporting such classic sf ex games. i wish u could legit play ex2+ online with good netcode. thatâd be dope.
For the sake of completion, I decided to test which supers in EX3 cannot be blocked or evaded on reaction. Capcom isnât consistent with this, so I wouldnât be surprised if something was different in the older EX games.
Shadowgeist: Demon Dream (air only)
Balrog: Meteor air throw
B. Hokuto: Renbu, Tag with Kairi
Darun: Super Darun Bomb, Gamble of Darun, Tag with Zangief
Zangief: FAB, CFAB, Tag with Darun
Sharon: Assault Rifle (close only)
SnH Ryu: Denjin Hadoken (L1 close only)
Ace: Denjin Hadoken (L1 close only), CFAB
What surprised me the most was that the Shungokusatsu can simply be jumped out of on reaction, point blank. That does not work in SF3 and some other games. In fact, Hokuto has the only âdemonâ style grab that you canât just jump out of. Weird.
Itâs also funny that the Denjinâs unblockability means it cannot be evaded up close. Itâs still a useless super! This means Ace, SnH Ryu, and Sharon are the only people with inescabale non-throw supers.
I didnât test Critical Parade entry supers, except Darunâs Twilight Lariat, because there is no other way to get that super. I doubt the results would be different though.
The Galaxy I tested was 0 stars.
I didnât test Skulloâs âLaserâ Skullo Dream and Pullumâs âalternateâ meteor because I forgot the commands to those. Does anyone know what they are?
Finally got Street Fighter Ex Plus Alpha, first game for playstation. Got alot of hate for being shoto clone heavy and the first entry in the series. Ex3 is the best one, but this one started it all and I feel it has the most âStreet Fighterâ feel out of all of them. Game seems pretty balanced besides a few characters. Almost anyone can do over half life if they have the meter. I think I have a fairly accurate tier list though.
Boss Tier - Shin Gouki, Shin Bison, Shin Garuda (Same as regular versions but deal more damage and take less damage)
Top Tier - Gouki, Bison, Garuda, Allen, Dhalsim
High Tier - Blair, Ryu, SnH Ryu, Kairi, Doctrine Dark, Bloody Hokuto, Sakura
Mid Tier - Guile, Chun-li, Hokuto, Ken, Skullomania, Cracker Jack, Pullum
Low Tier - Zangief, Darun
The boss characters are all good. Gouki has solid rushdown thanks to air fireball cancel into dive kick. Guard break has crazy range. Almost half screen. Great combos and hit confirms. Bison has throw confirms into super. lol. Stupid. Scissor kick is really good pressure and safe. Has a teleport too. Guard break goes over lows. Garuda has great supers that all cancel into each other nicely. Good dragon punch special and great ground specials for hit confirms. Has an anti-zoning special and another special thats safe on block and great in footsies. Allen is pretty sick. Has a command throw that will auto-kara and can be used as an option select. Will not whiff a throw animation, instead he will do a st.mk which is special/super cancellable. So if he gets the st.mk just cancel into Soul Force for safe chip and if the projectile hits cancel into super for good damage. He is dumb. Great guard break that goes far and hops lows. Dhalsim is close to his ST incarnation. Great zoning and control game. Can confirm a jumping mk into drill super. Good stuff. Overall the best pure zoner.
Blair has great confirms and damage even without supers. Sick walk speed. Gets a safe jump/cross up opportunity from her throw. Both incarnations of Ryu are great with a nice tool set. Super confirms are easy and practical. Super Hurricane kick gives them a confirm off dragon punch which lets them convert AA situations into serious damage. Very nice. Kairi has the shoto mold which is great. Interesting supers that combo nicely. Has two air supers so he can convert dragon punches pretty well. Command throw super makes him scary up close with meter. D.Dark is solid with using explosives to control space directly in front of him, a solid dragon punch and two damaging supers that combo well. Bloody Hokuto has better hit confirmation and super cancels then her regular self. Still has that command grab too and has her brothers super command grab. Sakura has a great cr.mp for counter poking and good range on her cr.mk. Super fireball is great in confirms and Shouken is great for damage and hit confirmation. Huge range on her st.hk which is super cancelable. Has a good throw for jump in set-ups.
Guile is solid, but there are other zoners with better damage potential with wider tool sets that have more utility. Chun-li is quite good. Might move her to high tier. Great walk speed and jump speed. Hienshu is like a dive kick. Safe on block though it does not hit overhead. Can combo out of it and gives quite a bit of advantage on hit and block. Lightening Legs is good damage and safe of course. Hokuto is a more reactive character in her normal state. Doesnât have as much raw power. Still nice with the command grab and has decent damage potential outside of supers. Ken is the worst shoto, but still a shoto. Only thing holding him back is the poor damage potential he has when super cancelling, especially compared to say Snh Ryu. His roll is a nice trick, but Gouki has it too. Skullomania has some solid tools, but like most of mid tier what holds him back is lacking huge damage conversion when super cancelling. Still he really does have alot of utility in several of his moves. Good anti-zoning and anti-turtling. Has an overhead too and a very good dragon punch. Cracker Jack is another character I feel I may be underestimating. His bat can knock away projectiles. He has great damage potential. A command throw super. And his rushdown is good. Hmmmmmmmm. Pullum just lacks cohesion. She doesnât really flow. Drills are pretty safe on the ground so thats good. Air drills are a little obvious, and arenât safe. Good dragon punch that gives her an air super confirm. Overall though I really donât like her. I feel she could move down. She is way better in Ex 2 imo.
Zangief and DarunâŠI love grapplers but there are too many zoners in this game for them to be successful.
IÂŽll ask the local guys that played this game to death, but AFAIK, C.Jack is toptier (he can kill in one hit iirc), Zangief is also top or high mid, Sakura has some dirt shit that locks characters that cant crouch mk tatsu (or something like that), Chun has a LL infinite, both Ryus barely have any lopsided matches (and inflict HUGE damage), Garuda has a very hard time getting in, Doctrine has an unblockable, Hokuto has like the best defense on the whole game and Dhalsim and Bison are pretty cheap.
Just of the top of my head, i was a boy when the community played this game, but it was a VERY fierce community.
Zangief is the best character in EX1. Only Blair and maybe normal Hokuto can even fight him. Darun is way too low in your list and Allen is the best shoto.
I wouldnât say that excels ruined EX2. Competitive level never got that high where combos like those were common place. If EX2 was as popular as SF4 then such combos would be common place and then ruin the game. So I believe that they have potential to ruin the game, but with the current player base, the game isnât ruined yet.
I donât know how to feel about that. Iâm Not really surprise by what I seen but I feel only few character can get away with ex combos like that. not to mention most would need to use all their meters. Wouldnât having best 3 out 5 rounds fix that?
