Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max

yea it’s fuckin adhesive
lol

well then how good is the d-pad?

well dude you could just take that off if you wanted to.

shit looks like all the new games are gonna be 2.0 and over… so what no more downloading for now?

Heres a picture of the d-pad accessory taken by Phil Mcfly, its basically a dpad that becomes glued to the PSP dpad, it can be removed maybe once or twice at most.

Heres a pic of it on my PSP. Front and Side view

It takes some getting used to. It definitely makes hitting diagonals easier but its pretty hard to get supers and specials out consistently due to the height of the dpad. Its kind of hard to explain. I’m probably just not used to it yet. I played Bleach Heat the Soul 2 with it, which is a game that requires far less directional input, and am convinced the d-pad makes that game 10x easier to play. For SFA3, I’m not so sure.

Ahh, what? I thought it would be more of a clip-on type of thing. Glue? That’s kinda ghetto

EDIT: I just looked at the pic again, and it looks like there are little spaces for the PSP pad under the adhesive.
VVV Are you sure you aren’t supposed to take off the adhesive and slip on the cover? Then again, how would that hit diagonals. Either way, I’m disappointed by the pad. :frowning:

Well its not really glue, just 4 little adhesive squares that stick to the PSP d-pad.

According to TiamatRoar Yun, Maki, Eagle and Ingrid have new endings with artwork inserted between the endings, like everyone else in SFA3 as you’ve seen before. The Japanese dialog for their endings is quite extensive. Last post -

Wow, some people are dumb. You guys just expected it to slide right on there and still WORK?

Yeah, that wouldn’t be falling off constantly or anything. It’s not like the dpad is good y’all, who gives a shit if you “have to” stick this pad on it? You won’t be losing anything you like.

And  at Phil hoping for a Logitech one

we can all dream :(… unfortunately mine are more out of reach than others =P

easy to do supers and stuff with the pad?

Compiled from a thread at Gamefaqs called “For those who have the game…” Special thanks to Panjansld, AP_Nataku, Edge51250, LyteEdge, RockmanSF3, HomiWan, TiamatRoar and Seto Moto, all thread participants with questions and answers.

Q: Is analog control available?
A: Yes…But recommended not to…If you accidently snap your analog stick, you have to spend quite some money for replacing a new one at SONY.

Q: How is the loading time? 10s? 20s? 30s?
A: Very very fast between battles…hmm about 3 to 5 secs…Very good…

Q: Is there an option to change the story text to English?(For the Japanese version of course)
A: Nope…most of the voices and menus are in english but story text are in japanese and can’t be changed…

Q: How’s the music? Exactly like the arcade?
A: Yes.

Q: Do Yun, Eagle, Maki and Ingrid have their own stages?
A: No.

Q: In Vs. mode can you select stages?
A: Yes.

Q: I heard Yun is like his CVS2 counterpart? That means Yang will show up in his supers but just not playable.
A: Yes, Yun once again has the super with Yang.

Q: Is World Tour mode the same as PS1 and DC?
A: Haven’t tried it yet; I’m about to. It should be just like the DC version.

Q: Any animation limitations on some certain characters(eg. Cody, Vega, Zangief) like on PS1?
A: There are no animation limitations. I was playing against Zangief yesterday, and he did in fact have his backwards walking animation. Ingrid was a new animation win pose, reminds me of Lilith…plus Eagle has new animation encounter during mid boss fight #5. I’m sure there are more somewhere when playing it more.

Q: Is Super M.Bison playable? Is Chun-Li’s SF2 outfit still only in X-Ism?
A: Not sure about Bison or Chun-Li’s outfit, haven’t picked them yet, but they are probably there, since this is the ultimate version of Street Fighter Alpha 3.

Q: How about the sound?
A: The game screams arcade and has pure Qsound quality. The announcer is more crisp than ever…like at the title screen - Street Fighter Zero 3! (Has a new subtle echo effect)

Q: Can you tell us more about the d-pad accessory?
A: The new d-pad accessory that was included as a bonus, helps tremendously. Moves are easy to pull, such as dragon punch motions. This is a must have. Never had a problem with it. I recommend keeping this on the PSP ALWAYS. If you take it out, then the adhesive part will tear off. Just keep it on. I think it makes the PSP more comfortable actually.

Q: What’s up with the 10 Ladder Roster Battle in Arcade Mode?
A: Another great thing Capcom added was updating the 10 ladder roster battle in Arcade Mode. Regular fighters can fight against the new challengers. For example in previous versions Ryu or Ken, would never be able to fight Balrog(boxer) or T.Hawk. They simply will never show up, unless you picked the new challengers themselves. Now anybody can fight against Balrog, Dee Jay, T.Hawk, Maki, Yun, and etc… It gives the game, a fresh feel more than ever.

Q: How is the tag team mode? Is it set up pretty much like Marvel vs. Capcom style?
A: Yes the new Variable Mode, allows you to switch fighters on the fly. You press two buttons simultaneously, to bring the other one out. Variable Mode isn’t exactly like Marvel vs. Capcom, because all you really can do is just switch partners, but not do supers together.

Q: Do Maki, Eagle, Yun and Ingrid have endings? (and anything interesting in any of them? From what you can understand of the Japanese text)
A: Yes the game has all endings, including the new ones. Well there are new profile introduction text, when you first select one of the new fighters. Plus Mid-Boss fight confrontation #5 and before #10, and of course Bison/Vega himself. Not sure exactly what’s going on, but it seems to be pretty interesting dialog going on for each. And yes, there is new art for the new endings.

Q: How is Dramatic Battle Mode?
A: Dramatic Battle Mode has been updated. Instead of the usual 5 battles in the previous versions, you go all the way to the top (10 battles). And for those who don’t know, Reverse Dramatic Battle is included as well (1P vs two CPU controlled) which was previously exclusive to the Saturn Version.

According to XLink Kai Forums A3 Max is playable online! Low ping is needed though, so you have to find players within your state. Cali players unite!

The more news I hear about this game the better it gets.

My copy should be arriving via UPS any day now.

Werd up MJ, once I get the game and you tell me how I’m so there :wgrin:

Well, I’ve had some time to play it and here are my initial impressions:

First and foremost, I’m very impressed. A better conversion than even Darkstalkers. The game looks incredibly sharp, especially when the screen is set to the 4:3 aspect ratio. The colors are vibrant and the overall picture quality is very sharp. As far as animation goes, it’s almost perfect, but it seems to be missing a scant few frames here and there, although the animation seems to be on par with the DC version IMHO.

I have noticed a few times where the game slowed down a bit, much like the Saturn version does, but it seems to happen when it doesn’t matter, so it doesn’t hamper the gameplay in any way.

Sound seems to be spot on except for the sound when you get the perfectly timed counter-hit (the one that pauses the game for a split second for dramatic effect). Beyond that, the sound is perfect. All the characters retain their voices and sound samples completely intact (or so it seems right now). The music comes though nice and clear even on the PSP’s speakers.

Load times are much more manageable than DS. The game does a pretty good job of buffering the loads between screens, effectively minimizing load times. Most people are saying average load times are 3-5 seconds, and that’s a pretty good assessment.

As for gameplay itself, I’m not a tournament-caliber player or a V-ism conneseur, but everything feels right by my experience with various versions of the game. Someone who is more skilled at the game may have a differing opinion, but all the combos, tactics, and timing I know and love from the Saturn/AC/DC versions work just fine here. Obviously, my biggest gripe is with the PSP’s shit-tacular D-Pad. I hate it with a fury, but given time, I think I can eventually get accustomed to it.

A note: I’m predominantly a charge-character user, and I was having a fucking hard time pulling off the Somersault Strike/Justice motion. Simply wouldn’t work no matter how hard I tried. A friend suggested I set the command to “Long” as opposed to my usual “Arcade”, and it helped greatly with charge-motion supers.
It’s worth a try if you’re having trouble with supers/motions.

All-in-all, hands down the BEST handeld fighting game to date (dethroning even the mighty Match of the Millenium for the NGPC, IMO). It’s finally great to see an (almost) arcade-quality fighting game intact on a handheld that is not comprimised in any way. SFA3/SFZ3 is my fave fighter of all time, and it’s fucking great to see it ported so well on the PSP. Say what you like about Capcom, but every now and then, they pull off a good conversion like this of a great game that keeps my faith in them alive. It’s not as godly as the Saturn version, but dare I say it, this may be my second favorite port… I’ll play it some more and think about it…

-On a personal note, I almost shed a tear to find out my boy DeeJay has been violated so badly. The lag after his Maxout went from nothing to eternity, completely changing his pressure-game, making rushdowns much more difficult. Why Capcom? Why?

Oh well, sorry about the rant, I hope someone out there found this entertaining/useful/vomitous.

well… you do need some equipment. Like a wireless router and card that is compatible. They have a list on the forums. If ya a noob to networking setup will be hella hard. Took me 3 days to figure it all out. :looney:

Well, at least it’s xkai online!

Well it looks like we will be playing street fighter the way we all played it on the SNES.

I always found the left shoulder button to be hard to use during my tactics. If only sony included an L2 and R2 button.

Dumb question: Are you able to customize a single button to act as two or three simultaniously pressed buttons in the control config options? I sometimes like to set my jab button to be P+P, to make throwing and air recovery easier, while still being able to function as a jab attack.

Yes you can.

Also, you can set a button to perform any special or super. Not that I’d ever use it, but it’s pretty crazy to walk up to an opponent and do a charging super, pretty neat to mess around with, but I’d NEVER actually use it.
