Street Fighter 8 spoilers and discussion

See, sano, I have no problem with comments like this saying you do not like the back up or particular artists’ style. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

The comments that upset me are those that keeps on saying “you suck, he suck”. And the one that TOTALLY offended me is the one that says the back up guys are ripping us off. This is a terrible insult to UDON, me myself, as well as the artists involved. Seeing these kind of posts in the public forum, especially a forum that I am heavily involved in and this is very much representing the voice of most SF fans out there, scares away upcoming artists and also discourages existing artists.

Just to reitterate, I was not upset by anyone who said they didn’t like my art. That’s cool, we all like and appreciate different things. The only thing that upset me just a bit was that someone said we as backup artists don’t give 100%. I know for me, that I did, and that was just a little upsetting. Honestly I don’t care if anyone says I suck. I’m sure to some people I do, luckily the people who employ me don’t think so. And yes I love any feedback, it does help one grow.

Ale: Do you mind if i post those two page layouts on my SF Comic media site? I’ll promptly remove them if you object.

Dear Udon,

Now that we’ve seen Karin’s fanatical obsession with Sakura, will the two of them have a rematch somewhere down the road? Hopefully in the this storyarc or the next?

And don’t worry about the negative comments of fans effecting the back-up artists. It seems they’re all doint it for the love of the game and characters, not to make people happy.

Alright i admit i acted with rage when i wrote the message. I shouldn’t have said that ALL the backstories sucked cause i enjoyed joe mads and hyung tai kims versions alot. I should tell you i am a fan of your work and did feel it wasnt your best work thats why i made that comment. I didnt know you were trying something new i just assumed you were slacking. I supported the comic from issue 0 and have all the jo chen foil covers but this is a major bummer for me that i can’t express how i feel about the comic honestly. Theres no need for Udoneko to stop coming here because i will no longer post and put my collection on ebay to the highest bidder.

I have not as of yet been able to lay my eyes on #8 yet & will not be able to for a fortnight.

But so far the comic has impressed me I felt, though rushed, the plot & character development was coming along nicely. The art though sometimes it did decrease in quality was still excellent nonetheless imo.

I have enjoyed the back-up stories, I don’t deny some of the art I have not been keen on, but I can’t be expected to like every stlye out there. I have seen a preview page of this back-up story & though not a fan of it all that much myself I do not think it is as bad as many make out.

I also respect some of the artists for actually coming here to listen to opinions & actually being able to take these comments whether good or bad, he hasn’t gone on all out war about it, he just seems to stay their in the background neither agreeing nor disagreeing. I think that has to be respected since so many people cannot take criticism (Referring to ale garza in this case).

To be honest I laugh at many of you who call yourselves fans, as the slightest slip up sends you crying to eBay. The comics have been fun & when you have seen the Malibu comic, you learn to respect the Udon version.

You may aswell just say “up yours” sweet:rolleyes:

Yo Sweet,

You are welcom to post here. Just do not assume things and call people names. I would like constructive criticism, but not out loud shouting with no support of your point.

The biggest problem I have is indeed your comment on the backup artists ripping us off. Because I do know what they are doing and I agree that they can experiment on different things. When I invite the guests to work on the SF comic, we normally give them the ultimate freedom to do whatever they want with minor guidelines for story and stuff. What we want to do with these guests backups is to give a little more variety to the SF comic art, that we have a little different style for people to enjoy.

I am sure its a little heat that every message board would have. And hope that this would not discourage you too much in enjoying our work.

I’ve been browsing this forum for quite some time and I also felt the art work is slipping in the comics. I didn’t want to say anything because I am not an artist. But some of the guys in here say it for me so i dont have to. I think sweet is one of those hard core fans that doesn’t think before he speaks or type. It’s really too bad because fans is what keep this comic going and i’m really concerned now that Udon is doing Darkstalkers and Rival Schools. I hope that this won’t effect Street Fighter.

I really could careless about rival schools and dark stalkers is okay but i doubt i would collect the comic.Street fighter is what I obsess over so I hope nothing effects this comic at all.I think its been amazing so far, only complaint is that it is too short. i wonder if issue 7 sales were as good as all the other issuses, since it was more expensive because of being a mega sized issue. I t if it did just as good sales wise, then I don’t see why we cant have these mega sized issues every issue, because I sure dont mind paying a few extra dollars for each issue. They are well worth it.i get mad at people saying the art quality is sometimes not up to standard because it seems to me the quality far surpasses that of most comics.I see the art as INCREDIBLE and I really love the story so far even if it is in compact sized issuses.I just want to see all the characters and a finish to this great series. As long as it finishes where third strike left off with a possibilty to continue the comic once street fighter 4 comes out ,I would be a happy camper.I hate incomplete work, especially something as worthwhile as this, so I will collect each and every cover of each and every issue as long as they keep getting made.
Some things I want to see in the comic. R. Mika-kicking some butt in the ring and getting to meet her fav wrestler-Zangief. Gen and Akuma MUST battle ,even if it takes up an entire issue. Honda must be shown kicking some butt after what haPpened against Vega, even if it means losing in the tourney but showing a great performance, almost winning the fight. And PLEASE show how “Killer Bee” ended up in the hands of Rose.
Anyways, keep up the great work and NEVER give up the back stories,it shows us things that happened in the past that are essential to the story and i love different perspectives of the art work.Very needed! Street fighter is all about style, all different kinds of it,rather you like it or not!:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh yeah you got to show the Rainbow doin the smackdown!I think Gen & Akuma would most likely fight in a Back-up to explian Akuma’s “Raging Demon” on Bison durin the tourney arc (if that happens). And the Rose kidnapping Cammy thing would be most likely explained in this current arc.

Rainbow Mika & Yamato Nadeshiko tag team match!!!

I finally got my hands on Street Fighter #08 today (had to buy it online: costed an arm and a leg :(), and I must say, I liked it a lot.

I really liked the interrogation scene with Cammy and the captured Shadaloo agent. The coloring job in these panels were AMAZING! I also really dug the bit right after with Sakura’s friend at her grandmother’s. Good art and colors, and I like these funny bits between Sakura and her friend. The only thing that bugged me about this issue was the way Ryu looked. Does anyone besides me think he looks a bit different than in previous issues? I don’t get it.

As for the backstory by Ale Garza, I LIKE. I have no idea why people disliked this one so much; I think maybe the story dragged it down a little? Or it might have been the characters (no one’s favorites?). The art was great though. I think maybe some people didn’t like how Ale drew Sakura (they prefer the more cutsie look?), but I didn’t mind it one bit. Every artist has their own interpretation of how a character looks.

Good work, UDON team! I can’t wait for issue #9!! (but I guess I’ll have to :frowning: ). Any set date for release yet?

-Kent

I think the reason why Ryu looks slightly different in this issue opposed past issues is the fact that Arnold took the helm, whereas normally it’s Alvin that draws the Ryu scenes.

In terms of continuity, that kind of sucks. But it’s understandable as Alvin can’t physically draw the entire comic himself each month… Or could he?

Arnold is soo the man anyway! Definitely my favourite now.

Has everyone seen his art on his webpage? Awesome.

How old is Arnold Tsang?
edit: ugh, hes like 3 years younger than me and is so talented >_< jumps in front of traffic.

I TOTALLY agree. I’m 19, i think he’s 3 years older than me. I can be so impatient sometimes, when i look at his work it’s so frustrating - in turn this leads to hate… anger… self resentment.

Jal, who also posts here (who is also amazing), i felt SOO CRAP when i found out he’s 2 years younger than me - he’s 17!

Ah well. Thats just how it goes sometimes. At least ya 19 and all that. I’m 23 and my interest in “art” was sparked off while at university about four years ago and been doing as a hobby since, but kinda like to get better. Spare time permitting.

As an overly postive and optermistic thing to say, Sometimes seeing some people, no matter what age, draw so well just gives ya that extra determniation to try and one day get yourself that good.

I’ve seen some fantastic artists 15 years of age, doing some of the best life like pictures I had seen, but they had been drawing since they were 5, and if there hands were broken they done it with there toes.

And on the other spectrum, people who have spent 40 odd years never touching a piece of paper suddenly try to learn and a good few years (and a few more) after manage to come out with some grand stuff as well.

So you two don’t give up or get too frustrated. Enjoy there art and just keep pushing yaself. We all can’t be young progedy’s.

/End of old man type talk.

But thanks for linking the art site. I enjoyed looking around it.

Jal is not 17 he’s 19. That’s what it says on his page. I know Arnold and friends are around 21 to 23.

I’m sorry my bad. I have a habit of analysing - i mean innocently glancing at profiles on this forum. Whilst some may be more interesting than others, i find birth dates to be a quite ingenious way to compare myself to others when it comes to ability. Or rather what level i should be at.

I came across Jal’s profile, i just remember seeing 1986 - i guess that just stuck.

After another look, yep i was wrong, it was 1985. I’m still a year older though.

OK, i’ve just exposed myself as the crazy stalker on the forum… Hello everyone.

Cho, thank you for your encouragement, I just go through that from time to time. I’m gonna try and post my work in this forum at some point.
