Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

When I hear that I think what is meant is the game is pretty fucking complex. There are so many interlocking wheels at different points that getting it to the state it is at currently was probably a lot of work. That to go in and fiddle with it would just create a ton more headaches and to just leave it be is a much better plan.

Everyone knows the game isn’t necessarily the most evenly balanced experience. But I think don’t think it’s unbalanced in a way that makes it unfun.

As for a revised version and an original. I would much rather Capcom spend time on a useful and intuitive lobby system. Replays that you can share with others. An awesome training room.

Who’s going to buy it? Really anyone who’s played 4 I think. They’ll definitely be interested in the game Makoto Ibuki and Dudley come from. Now also Yun and Yang. Out of curiosity I bet A LOT of people familiar with the SF franchise will buy it.

Those that mained those 5 characters in 4 and AE will probably be satisfied to hear that they’re all either great or at least good in the tiers, as well. They just need to adjust to the 3S counterparts’ combos and the engine itself, and there’s a pretty good chance they’ll have some fun matches.

tiers only matter at high level (aka only 1% of america)

at the scrub level aka louisipher and company, nothing matters besides who can do the wackiest shit and who can abuse something the other player cannot get out of.

You have an evil twin! A dirty, scrubby, evil twin!

Or, Louis is pulling random shit outta his ass… (gasp, who woulda thunk it?)

someone might go on ggpo named pherai or something. people do stuff like that so I wouldn’t be surprised.

Oh wow, it’s turned into an anti-me thread. Cue Womble to say something about his dick.

@Pherai if you’re not on GGPO than it’s some other dude with the same name. I remember playing you at least once and beating you. Can’t recall if it was just with Stomps though.

@Shin Akuma look dude I’m not in a minority of people who dislike Chun and wouldn’t mind seeing her nerfed, even top players hate the bitch. So don’t try to turn it into one of those ‘only scrubs hate Chun Li’ bs arguments so you can rally your boyfriends around and assert yourselves and your terrible Ken-playing ways. And yeah, you sound like a Ken player who likes to mash. I’ve noticed the most vocal people who think they’re top shit are the Shoto players.

Who else…

@Ryan are you Denjizz? I forget.I actually do pretty well, I’d consider myself decent. I’ve played Metric and Denjizz and one or two other high level players (and no, we’re not including 2nasty and Artayes, the master scrubs). Denjizz has a weird come back factor with Denjin Ryu, still learning how to counter those setups with Alex, doesn’t help that online sucks for parrying that shit. But he’s damn good and I respect that.

@Audio CG Either it was him (how common is a name like Pherai?) or someone with a same name, and yes I beat him and then blocked him.

I hope 3SO has an event mode. Might be fun. One event could be; you have a sliver of health and have to fight a CPU opponent and parry how ever many hits.

Shin a shoto masher?!

lolz, mofo rolls a mad hot Urien most of the time when we play. Dunno how hes mashing out those charge partition setups, but hey, ya never know. (The guy is solid with like half the cast in 3S)

You really gotta watch the calling out of all these actually pretty damn good players, you gonna get schooled and youtubed pretty quick, lol. (Shin, come to my place this weekend and log onto GGPO, that shit will be hilarious)

ryan is not denjizz.

denjin is not really that much different online. when its setup well, its difficult either way. when its setup poorly its pretty simple.

Oh hai.

Ryan is not denjizz rofl. Man this scrub needs to get the youtube treatment. Calling people out like it’s nothing lol.

ha, ya I’ve known of a few people who sign on with names of top players, but I didn’t think someone would ever use my name

ggpo’s netcode (for 3S, anyway) is susceptible to fps drops due to rapid inputs, like mashing neutral throw hits, getting undizzied or charging denjin. offline you do have to guess but at least the process of parrying it is consistent. i guess that’s one advantage of the input delay-based clients, so far.

I play Ken as my secondary, but I’m not a scrub who mashes.

Here’s your proof:

I know, crappy camera work, but it’s the only video I’ve got. I’d like to think that I’m pretty decent at 3S but my opponent is way better than me. He beats me in the majority of our matches.

Are you too lazy to figure out how to beat Chun? Is that it? If it is, then just admit it and we can end this.

Louischiper is still bitching? lmao

I should have phrased it more specifically because you’re absolutely correct. When you have a stable connection in ggpo, it isn’t really different for parrying purposes as far as i can tell. the same stuff that would have caught me online catches me online and vice versa. i never feel cheated by online unless theres a jitter or spike that causes a bunch of dropped frames.

explain this a bit more though. are you saying its dropping frames specifically due to the inputs affecting ggpos operation? like that by spamming an input you force ggpo to sort of lag and need to catchup so it drops frames? this is interesting if so.

it only gets funky for me personally when i do a very very early parry and the successive parries look totally fucked up timing wise. like when im parrying on the stick, its a massive delay before my character parries due to when i started the parry in the first place (vs multihit supers). THAT throws me off because my movement of the stick and the parry sound aren’t in sync.

3rd strike is overpowered.

People don’t have him on Ignore yet?

Oh hai Mark.

It’s booshit I did not hit her, it’s not true, I did naaattt!

They’re too lazy or just gotta see why he posts so damn much.

in my experience, yes. i haven’t used it recently but i used to get good connections that were otherwise stable until somebody had a reason to mash. then the framerate would drop temporarily and recover after a few seconds. it’s enough to botch a post-stun combo or quickrise after a neutral throw. never observed a similar thing in any other netplay client.

it shouldn’t be a problem on console where everybody has the same hardware and if they do use ggpo, there would be better compatibility with the game than regular ggpo has.

Ha, I just did! Never used the ignore button yet, but this guy seems like the perfect candidate.

3rd strike is overpowered to my soul. I’m eager to hear more news, hopefully a drop date…
