Key problem with your hypothesis: the example in the video was actually called BLOCKING ON WAKEUP. The low parry > grab was a situation afterwards that was essentially just a corner game, not a wake-up game.
Makoto has a weak wake-up game for the most part - if you think relying on guess parries -> damaging combo amounts to a strong wake-up then just call it a day dude.
Also, I think you’re using the wrong character - ditch Ryu and pick Hugo, knocked down and in the corner is exactly where Hugo wants her.
Really, with the amount of bitching you do about this game I’m not really sure why you play it.
It’s a great trick, but from Hugo’s end you shouldn’t even give her the ability to do that. On her wake-up you should be positioned just outside of her grab range and pissing her off with reverse-parry-grabs. Hugo’s cr.lp and st.lk can be parried high and low, so it’s in your interests to help her parry you and then you cancel the normal to 360/720. Taking it further, you want Gigas charged at the distance I mentioned and bombard her with Claps. Nasty pressure game, and if she parries then cancel to Gigas. If the normals or Claps are meaty they should stuff wake-up SA2s too. Once you scare her in to blocking then you can play with Clap timings to really fuck with her head (hp.Clap whiff just slightly early so you recover and go straight in to 360, Clap just slightly late to stuff parry attempts, etc.).
It’s still a really tough match but there are lots of little bits and pieces like that you can use.
This isn’t just me having a pop at you for the last couple of pages where reading it all last night I just disagree with you, I also happened to read at the same time your very recent comments on YouTube on a couple of videos with Chun in and it’s still all you do: bitch about her.
That’s why I don’t get why you play 3S - instead of feeling hard done by with Chun and Makoto being the way they are, why not just a) stop playing or watching as soon as you see them, and/or b) get a petition rolling for SF3:4X where they can ‘rebalance’ the series and take it further (I’m completely behind the idea of a new installment AS WELL AS leaving 3S as it is). 3S is over a decade old and you’re moaning about Chun? Really?
Serious question for you: if you lose to who you regard to be a ‘decent’ Chun player, do you think it’s likely that Ruu or Vanao would have beaten that Chun player?
You don’t see it often but it’s a great strategy. And it also creates a guaranteed kill for Hugo in some situations (particularly if your opponent doesn’t have a fuck-off reversal like Ryu SA2): if you get your opponent down to 0 pixels of health and get a Clap about to hit them, they have to make a choice between blocking and parrying - if they block the Clap it chip-kills, if they parry you can cancel to Gigas.
Anyway, a couple of examples in action:

Hard to set these up consistently against decent opponents but they’re always worth looking for!
Don’t be naive. Everybody is guilty of complaining and bitching about something or someone in this game. And they still do. Even genki does. Go tell him the same crap.
The difference is I wasnt trying to bitch on here but to give a quick thought out.
I’m not being naive, you didn’t answer my question: if you lose to who you regard to be a ‘decent’ Chun player, do you think it’s likely that Ruu or Vanao would have beaten that Chun player?
And how do you know everybody bitches about something? How long have you spent in Japanese arcades training up to hear Kuroda and co. complaining?
And LOL, you don’t even know if Genki was kidding! He could have just been having a laugh. It’s not even worth using that as a point of discussion.
I think you should watch the Hayao vs Kokujin match from SBO3 (I think) where even though it’s a nasty match for Hugo, Hayao’s reaction afterwards is just such good sport.
Instead of putting all the problems on stuff like the design of Chun, you should stop making excuses and just get better.
Also, I love the way you avoid any points you don’t have an answer for, haha. Didn’t expect anything more though so don’t worry, you haven’t surprised me!
Did not know that about the 2 player lobbies. I immediately understand why though based on the way they’re setup now that I think of it. What a typical goof.
As for training mode, yeah I dig what you mean. Maybe not even 2 player training mode, but a training mode where you can have spectators who can switch in. Like imagine exactly like any training mode except both 1p and 2p have options including players currently in the lobby. So if you had like 4 people in there and 1 said “wait up, see if this works” and could send some kind of ping saying he wants to be set as the active 1p or something.
My explanation sounds overly confusing but just imagine the same as offline training mode just online and with the ability to have a lobby including specs and being able to record in the training room too.
Also, something I always thought was a cool thing was in the new smash brothers how online theres a ‘waiting room’ sort of thing. When it’s trying to connect to a game you can beat up a punching bag. Something like when you go to do ‘quick match’ if it dropped you into training with your default (as set in options or something) character and let you just practice some crap as it searches.
Basically extending that idea, make the arcade request function of SF4 possible both when playing arcade mode in 3soe and if you’re in the training room (of course you could turn both off/on or whatever you’d like).
These are pipe dreams at best but it’s little things like this that make the entire experience more of a pleasure and less of a hassle.
Nice work again on the tourney, you been going to a few lately?
3S:OE - please God, I pray you subtly guide the developers in to releasing a game which at least is a perfect arcade port wrapped in a great, simple and fast interface. Now, God, before you argue that SF4 was perfect in every way and helped re-ignite the fighting game scenes, we both know that Capcom are a piece of dogshit when it comes to this with SF4’s and MvC3’s interfaces being as efficient as wiping your arse on your hand.
There is NO good reason why the 3S:OE menu system should be littered with loading screens, DLC screens, saving screens, etc, it should primarily be about getting a fight and getting it very fast.
