Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

Im just hoping for quarter matches with lobbies, replays, and voice, lol.

am surprised how big the debate of rebalanced 3s is compared to HDremix was.

Well, we never knew what HDR was going to be like since it was the first of its kind. Now we know and we don’t want the same thing to happen to 3S.

That’s a silly argument. Just because HDR ended up being a mess doesn’t mean that a good rebalance is impossible.

I mean, you’re afraid that a rebalance could possibly end up sucking. But, what about the possibility of a rebalance being good? It can go either way, and we won’t know unless it happens. Just because there’s potential of something negative occurring doesn’t mean it shouldn’t occur.

Pretty much this, while I actually do like HDR (I still like ST too damnit, I can like both), I think we have all seen the rift in the community caused by the re-balance, seeing as the 3S community in North America is already struggling the last thing we need is to cause another divide such as the one caused by HDR.

History does tend to repeat itself, so I imagine that a rebalanced 3S would end up the EXACT same way, and I dont think anyone here wants that to happen.

There is the independant 4th strike remake/tweak happening, and im sure that will be interesting and fun, however, for an official release I have to side with the “pure and perfect” side on this front.

Hdr is not exactly the first of its kind, its just another rebalance just like what st was to hyper fighting except it wasn’t done by the original dev team.

Just because one was done bad doesn’t mean they all will be.

We’re already 0-2 with HDR and MVC3…lets not get a third strike with 3S:ON

The problem with this is that the national scene for 3S is dying. There’s no chance of the game ever coming back onto the stage it used to occupy without a new revision being made. The people who used to play 3S competitively in America for the most part jumped ship to SFIV once it was released and never came back. Even if a revision would divide the community, it would at least reinvigorate the player base for both games. Without that, 3S will die out just like a bunch of other games that once had sizable competitive scenes. (R.I.P. CvS2)

The jury’s not out on MvC3, yet. The game has supposedly improved significantly in quality between each new public playtest. Also, the game’s more than eight months away from being released. Calling that now’s just silly and ignorant.

hdr was explicitly stated to be an official new sf2 game by sirlin. that’s why it had a title like that.

this game is street fighter III: 3rd strike - online edition. meaning it’s an online edition of street fighter III: 3rd strike. they’re not going to call it that then make it something that isn’t 3rd strike. how would a move like that even be valid in the game industry? if they want to make a new SF3 game, they can. i sure as hell can’t stop them. but i think we can all agree that if they wanted to do that, they won’t call it street fighter III: 3rd strike. so all the people clamoring for a rebalance who are going to play the game for 10 minutes before going back to sf4 shouldn’t even waste capcom’s time when they could spend those resources making this the best port of 3S for its actual fans.

Stop making the truly idiotic assumption that everyone that dissagrees with you is some random scrub who got his start out with SSFIV & never has been a fan of 3rd Strike. I’ve been playing & enjoying 3 since New Generation & I still play & practice 3rd Strike today.

i meant MVC2 thats currently on 360 and PS3. I typed MVC3 by accident.

NorCal Regionals.

Says who? GGPO seems rife with competition as usual. And this forum seems to be heavily occupied by new people. I wonder why that is? 3S is doing quite fine and it’s not dying. Sound the alarm somewhere else.

Oh really? Is that what happened with MvC2 on the PS3? I mean if MvC2 was just a regular port with no balancing done it would have never made EVO again. Don’t forget that 3S had the second most votes in that EVO gamer’s choice poll. Maybe 3S returns at EVO in 3v3 format? Maybe with an arcade perfect port people like RX or Kuroda might travel to EVO? I love how you dismiss 3S as having ‘no chance’ at returning to the big stage. Yet 3S is an SBO game again. The stage doesn’t get much bigger than that. And how many regional tournaments still have 3S? Troll more.

No. It would split the community into people who are older experienced 3S players and newer 4S or whatever players just like ST and HDR has done. And then it would mean that Japan would play 3S on arcades and we’d play some Frankenstein 3S rebalance. It would divide the 3S scene and then basically kill it.

So 3S is going to die despite constantly having a healthy amount of people on GGPO? Despite it being at SBO every year in Japan? Despite the game getting a release on the PS3 and 360 in the future? Please dude 3S is more than fine and there will be thousands of people playing the PS3/360 version in the future in the U.S. alone. Go take your 3S is dead speech somewhere else.

How many regional tournaments DO still have 3s? It’s strong on WC still but not in the rest of the country. Was an Evo side tournament run even? I’m not sure if it went down. What SBO runs doesn’t affect the US scene.

Even with a re-release, I don’t see 3s as is coming back to Evo as a main game, just as MvC2 isn’t even if the new port was good.

An online community doesn’t constitute a national scene if majors are getting 16-man side tournies together for a game, when the 2nd-tier games like Melty are doing much better than that. ECT2 wasn’t bad because of the CTF crowd, but MD/VA doesn’t seem to come out for it now, where it was really big.

People have been saying 3s is dead or dying for years, the fact that they even made this announcement proves it’s not. It’s true that japan may be about the only place where you’re likely to find regular competitions and such, but it still doesn’t change the fact that quite alot of people outside of japan play the game. The European scene is actually bigger then you might think for instance. Dead my ass…

I define a scene as healthy or dead based on whether people are willing to travel to play it in tournament and how hype they are about it. If you have a different definition that’s fine. Nobody’s saying “literally nobody plays Third Strike”. 3s’s tournament presence today is clearly not what’s it’s been like “for years”. People saying “This game is boring” or “this game will die soon” doesn’t judge a game’s health, the numbers it pulls at events do.

The fallacy in that argument though is assuming that people only want adjustments because they’re terrible and not because they see problems in the system.

I think “dying” to people means “OMG NO 1000 MAN TOURNAMENT ITS DEAD!”

TvC is dead (tournaments for it get cancelled a lot) but 3s is alright for now.

I can understand, I’ve played and been pretty good at a number of games but I’m too lazy to actually compete, but then lack of tourneys isn’t as such on its own a bad thing. There’s plenty of really good 3s players on GGPO. So clearly tourneys alone don’t make a scene.

How about being able to make rooms with an original system direction when playing online? I would love to be able to cancel normal into dashes and cancel normals into normals into normals in the air! It’d be like playing Vampire savior with alex and akuma and junk.

We used to do this after long sessions at my buddy michael’s pad. We called it Queen Fighter
