A full fledged sequel wouldn’t be SF4 or SF5. It would be SF3: 4.
The progressions occur in in each series itself, not in the ‘Street Fighter’ brand. Obviously they influence each other and certain ideas are brought into future games but each series is really quite different. 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, Alpha and EX are all very different.
According to AbraxasAlexanderCipher00125, you can ban characters from being played at your house. I think he works for Capcom. He talks about 3s like a Capcom employee probably would anyway. Well, I guess this feature is so that you can play on ranked matches and only have to fight Sean and Twelve? Or does it work more like that rule in my house where no one is allowed to play Arcana Heart without paying me money and then getting stabbed in the ass until they die? See that’s exactly what I’d like. We all like 3s, let’s take that for granted. SF4 is the current big SF title that everyone plays and the 3s community has been slowly shrinking (well it shrunk much faster with the release of 4). Why not make a new SF title in the spirit of 3s that has a more natural evolution of 3s’ gameplay that can appeal to new blood? Much as I really am looking forward to 3soe and would like it to do well I don’t see many new people playing it as their main game.
That would just be a new game then. Most of us want to play 3s, not a hypothetical new game.
I think that if the SF4 generation (screw it–my people) take to 3S:OE well enough where it gets a little bit of a resurgence (nothing huge, but noticeable, and lengthy enough), then it wouldn’t surprise me for Street Fighter 5 to be to SF3 what SF4 was to SF2.
SF4 is somehow like SF2? Other than all the SF2 characters being in it, I don’t see much in common that isn’t in other SF titles.
As genius as the game is, and as genius as the creators of the game are, the genius players of 3rd Strike made 3rd Strike what it is.
The design of the game maybe some being accidental allowed for the genius’s of the game to use their creativity to make the game we see today. 3rd Strike has some of the greatest minds in the world. The evolution of the game was solely on the hands of its players.
Since they got rid of all guard crush, air block, parry, alpha cancel, custom combo, and replaced it with with something as insignificant as focus, it is essentially the sf2 series. Mass zoning, chipping for death, at least thats my view.
As far as appealing to new blood, SF3 is good on its own merit, and if you need a bunch of bells and whistles and easy mode and 3d, play something else. If you want a solid, fluid, unique, deep, and exciting game, 3rd strike has that already. I think I can speak for any true 3rd strike fan in that if you give it a chance, you’ll really love it and understand why so many were disappointed in sf4.
