Street Fighter 3rd strike: Online edition

Are we taking bets on whether a load of 360 fanboys will flood the thread crying out “Crapcoms” PS3 favouritism about it being launched a day after PS3? I really hope they dont. What I hope they do is remember what day XBL Marketplace updates and that delay is down to Microsoft and not Capcom.

Personally I couldnt care less because its only 24 hours and also Im away that week so cant play anyway.

At least the trailer confirms what I was was talking about before, live streaming straight from the game. So many awesome features in this game.

Console fanboys aren’t worth worrying about.

I don’t remember who used that setup on me, but they were really good, and I could tell they were getting bored.

I’ve seen in normally noobish places like eventhubs or youtube some people complaining about whoever or whatever in 3S, and most of the time I’ve seen them get told to “deal with it and level up.” Could… could players be getting better? Or do I need to up my meds again?

i played 3rd strike online edition today for a while. almost a solid 3 hours i had just to myself. heres my thoughts:

  • new menu/art/lifebars/meter bars look worse the more i see them. ( im a hater, straight up)
  • the choice of combos for trials is laughable. I wish capcom hired me to make the trials, i would have made sick ones. I messed around with makoto, gouki, ryu, urien, Q.
  • the error when the combo counter gets cut off doesnt happen when you play on 4:3 mode or arcade monitor mode.
  • ryus bag DID fall over for me.
  • uriens aegis is purple even if your playing a urien mirror.
  • filters are gross. the smooth one, are you kiddng me? looks like 3rd strike painted in water color.
  • parry training mode, the cpu still auto parrys when youre tryin to record. DOH

and most importantly, is it really arcade perfect? well the monitor they had it on was HELLA laggy. felt like i was on drugs or underwater. the damage felt more arcade to me than ps2, and it didnt feel as fast as ps2 either. but i couldnt do any links and red parrying was not gonna happen due to the monitor. I predict a hybrid mix of ps2 and arcade 3rd strike. anyone have any questions hit just ask away.

final thoughts. it is still the 3rd strike we all love, in fact Im gonna buy a console just for this game. It is going to help the american 3rd strike scene so thats awesome. in the end, i feel like they could have done better by reaching out to more top players who live and breath 3rd strike to make this the 100% perfect game.

Like every game, they can get better if they practice a lot…Obviously for 3.3 they’ll need much more time to get an acceptable level compared to SF4 IMO, but this is another story :wink:

What kind of combos were there for the trials?

Question: you felt the game faster compared to the arcade game? Do you think this is only due to the laggy monitor?

with the lag, all i can tell you is it felt slower than ps2. combos feel like they hit hard like arcade does. I could have made a proper judgement as I have played a shit load of arcade and a shit load of ps2 if the tv wasnt so bunk.

yun 2nd to last trial (didnt try the last as i saw it was just a default genei jin combo)

vs Q, Zenpo - jab jab short strong, mk upkicks, short upkicks.

100% stun

rh ex mgb - jab mgb - jab mgb - jab mgb - toward mk jeppa.

chun li final trial

cl hk sa2 - sjc last hit of sa2 into another sa2 (LOL)

Q final trial

cdb - overhead jab dash punch - activate sa3 - blow them up.

i think it would have been sick to make the last challenge extremely difficult. or even if they dont want to make them super hard make them practical. like with Q, vs chun make it cdb strong dash punch, fierce dash punch midscreen. its not easy and it can help new Q players learn a combo they should land vs a chun.

For the challenge difficulty, may be a likely future DLC is to allow users to create their own challenges and share them with the community : that will be great actually!
IMO i am not interested if the challenges are ridiculously easy to do: finishing challenges just…well to say “yeah I’ve made 100% challenge success” does not concern me at all.

Thanks for letting us know what’s up Ryan! I wonder if they put 3so on a laggy monitor just so we will still be in the dark about timing up until release time and we have to actually buy it to find it x.x.

The question I have for you is this; did you see any other known 3s players there? Gootecks? Or were some of the FG pros who were there, like Justin and Floe giving 3so a spin?

I wonder if DLC will include things like more practical trials, added win poses and pre-fight banter.

Dudley’s dick got smaller

willy nilly dai shoryu with gouki covers the opponent in goo

new online kod/koc/kom modes which sound really sick!!

i dont know. i played a bunch of randoms. got like 45 wins.

for what its worth i could hardly kara throw with chun. Something im really good at in the arcade. it could have been the sticks i hope, but it wasnt happening.

a sick trial for dudley woulda been vs makoto:

rh ex mgb midscreen, jab mgb, cr rh, dash fierce jeppa sa3

Figuring out MP->EX Headbutt is the only hard thing about this trial. They should’ve done something like the 100% combo RX did on Boss.

…that’s the best they could come up with? lol

…wait, overhead dash punch->SA3? I didn’t think you could do that, considering the startup for SA3->QCF+P is really slow.

when i tried to do a basic trial with a character there was no text telling me what to do. was weird.
