This is what happens, when a new series finally tries to be original, people flame it for NOT being unoriginal. Were you expecting a continuation of the SF2 world? Everything from the gameplay to the characters has been changed, IF the story was well developed the characters would be awesome I’m sure. But the fact that its hard to get ANY story out of them and the endings barely tell you anything makes it hard to like the characters. Street Fighter 3:3s is an amazing game…
To be fair, I wouldn’t call Street Fighter 3 a new series so much as part of the Street Fighter series (the fact that like all Street Fighters it ends up being a sub series within a series due to Capcom’s rehashtasticness not withstanding, of course)
Man, shutup with that jibber-jabber. The characters are great from a gameplay standpoint, but the characters and their designs are mostly garbage, IMO. The original SF3 came out almost 7 years ago. If I don’t ‘appreciate’ the character designs by now, then I never will. FUNK that.
That’s true, to an extent.
In a word… Yes.
I’m sure some people were expecting a direct sequel to SF2, but I was hoping for at least some sort of connection between the two games.
Saying people flamed SF3 because it wasn’t unoriginal is an over-simplification. SF2 (as well as the SFA series) had lots of characters and storylines for people to get attached to; and, generally, a sequel has returning characters, plots, themes, etc. (FF series and their ilk notwithstanding). Of course people are going to be annoyed when characters they love don’t return, especially when they’re replaced with freaks (I like the SF3 cast now, but my initial reaction was YUCK (especially since they took out the other characters)).
As for the unoriginal thing, generally, all sequels for fighters are very unoriginal (when it comes to the roster). People come to expect that their character will return. Most sequels add characters without really taking any away. When one is taken away, people complain. In the case with SF3 everyone was taken away.
All that said, however, I agree: SF3: 3s is an amazing game.
Frankly I can’t wait for them to get into the SF III timeline. As much as I love SF and all the old guys, how many times can we hear about Cammy being controlled by Bison, Akuma being the ultimate Evil, and Guile avenging Charlie?
Pah. Everyone knows that the comic’s really popular not for all of that rehashed stuff you just mentioned, but for the Dolls and the goddess known as the grumpy surly one. :encore:
…no, I’m not 100% serious.
I agree! You said everything I wanted to say, but was too lazy to type out.
Well, I guess the good news for those of you who dislike SF3 is the fact that they won’t be touching that storyline for a good while. But I do hope that when UDON does go into the SF3 storyline they still show the original characters. I know what I’m saying sounds kind of dumb 'cause I seriously doubt they’re not going to get rid of all the non-SF3 characters just because they’re not involved in the general storyline… That would just be insane. Plus, it would be great to see all the old SF characters with a more mature look like Ryu, Ken, & Chun Li have.
Btw, is there some sort of connection between Remy & Guile or did Capcom just create a new character from scratch and gave him Guile’s moves for no apparent reason? I mean, when they do the comic adaptation for Remy don’t you think there should be some connection with either Guile or Charlie instead of him having the Sonic Boom & Flash Kick by coincidence? Just a thought…
Ha ha They’re not garbage at all! Why would Capcom put bad designs in a game? It just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
What the…? Shut the HELL up!
The designs for the game are not garbage. Ive seen worst in other 2d fighters. To me the designs are really good expecially gill and alex.
Since I haven’t play the game yet here’s the characters I like from a artist point of view.
1 Q ( robots are so cool looking )
2 Ibuki ( What can I say like ninjas so sue me.)
3 Yang
4 Yun
5 Hugo
6 Dudley ( for some odd reason I like Dudley’s look more then Balrog’s.)
Considering one of the biggest problems with the comic is the ammount of characters and the lack of character development now (remember we havent even seen all the SFA characters yet), keeping the SF2 people in SF3 would be a silly, awful idea.
Chun-li being in SF3 is already stupid enough. No need to add Guile and the others to make it worse.
I sorta have to agree. While I’ll be happy if SF2 and SFA characters make cameo appearances during the SF3 storyline, I really don’t think they should actively participate in the story.
Of course, Udon has taken several liberties with the storyline so far… It stands to reason that they’ll take several liberties with SF3 as well.
We’re not atually on the SF2 arc exactly yet are we? I thought it was more of a go-between. So it’s a fair deal to come across both Alpha and SF2 characters atm but I’m not keen on the thought of character’s being outside of where they’re supposed to in accordance with game appearences.
I think it’ll officially be SF2 once the tournament starts.
Yup i think the sf2 tournament will be the best part of the comic. Its gonna be great.
Yeah that’s what I thought, which I thought I saw Udoneko say was going to be the next arc?
I’m very curious to see who ends up winning the SF2 Tournament, especially since, technically, the official winner was never announced.
Will it be fan favorite and defending champion Ryu?
How about Guile or Chun Li (since the Plot FAQ seems to favor one of these two winning it)?
The possibilities…
Unfortunately, considering this is an ongoing series I do believe at some point most of the older characters will or may cross paths with some of the newer characters but that’ll be in the distant future so no need to worry about that for awhile. Now after the main SFIII storyline I wouldn’t mind seeing some of the older characters… granted, not all of them but characters like Sakura, Guile, Cammy, Sagat… more or less the important & popular characters.
Now, personally I loved having Chun Li in SFIII. I think the aftermath of the whole Gill encounter helped her with her character development, which I agree SF series has very little of but that’s another topic I’ll get to some other time. But back to Ms. Li, after defeating Gill she felt a stronger sense of duty not only to her profession but also to her people and the future of her people’s children, thus strengthening her sense of justice. It doesn’t sound like much (go figure w/ SF)but I’ll take it.
Now as for character development, UDON is more or less showcasing what Capcom has already developed. The SF characters were all fairly generic early on and that’s pretty much how they stayed for whatever reason. That generic look and feel is partially what makes them both famous or dumb, depending on who you are. I mean when you think about it, what is the purpose of SF? It’s not so much the storyline it’s the fighting. Those are its roots and chances are it’ll stay that way.
I remember in Bison’s ending in SFA2 he subjects Ryu to Shadowlaw’s mind control device which in the aftermath fully awakens Evil Ryu. Somewhere down the line he fights Shin Akuma and defeats him (how I’ll never know) and I guess because he has no other opponent his desire and evil kind of fades and he comes back to normal. In other words I’m guessing Ryu
…Then again, that is one of many of Capcom’s alternate storylines and I gave up figuring out which one is the “official” storyline.
