Street Fighter 3

Yeah, it’s no secret that Capcom could’ve done a waaaaaaay better job of tying SF3 in w/ SF2’s storyline. They barely explained what happened during SF2, with exception of Urien’s blurb 'bout Chun Li destroying ‘that organization’. Lame.

In fairness though when it was just Blanka it was just one freak, then they took it to the extreme and we get a lot more weirdo’s better suited to the DarkStalker’s world thanks to SF3.
Personally I think SF should be all-human but oh well…

I agree. SF should be an all-human cast, generally. While i’m glad that the SF3 series consists of mostly new characters, a lotta’ the character designs are a little weak and bizarre.

Didn’t see this earlier, originally there still is the shock of not seeing Chun-Li. She didn’t make an appearence in either New Generation or 2nd Impact: Giant Attack, Ibuki is described as her replacement, they brought her back in 3rd Strike for fan service I believe. I had heard that there was a lot of complaints about Chun-Li going missing so they brought her back. Also as you partially said, Ryu was not supposed to appear he was going to be replaced by Alex… But they changed their minds. Personally I am a Ryu fan but for SF4 I wonder if it should be time to move on from the Shotokans as much as anything just to make the story interesting again.

And yep you said it Golden Dragon, I didn’t realise Q was a robot so I add him to the list lol, so characters that shouldn’t have been in it imo: Q, Twelve & Necro. But I don’t see why they could not have made Gill, Urien and Oro human. Heck if Oro had the gigantic towering appearence of Gouken in the comics you could believe that he is a master and he would look just as threatening as Akuma lol.

Here’s my Oro edit.

LOL stil I’d like to see him look a bit less green and a bit more threatening :razzy:

I suppose there is quite a bit of ‘culture shock’ jumping straight from SF2 - SF3. You kind of have to understand what happened before it to get it.

After SF2, lots of Capcom Employees didn’t like the direction Capcom was taking SF, left Capcom, joined SNK and started KOF. To this day KOF still has the ‘semi realistic’ look of SF2. You can see this in the SVC Chaos Capcom Sprites. That’s what the SFers would of looked like if Capcom would of stayed on that path (though they prolly would of animated better…).

Then came Darkstalkers. It was the first game to have Capcom’s Anime-ish look and defined the look of all Capcom Games.

The SF2 Animated Movie was so liked by Capcom, it inspired the SFZ/Alpha Series and influenced Capcom on keeping the Anime-ish Sprites used in Darkstalkers for SF. Also, Manga Artist Masahiko Nakahira had a HUGE influence of SFZ2 and beyond. So again, more Anime-ish influences given his Art Style.

So all of this influenced the look of SF3, characters, etc.

As for few returning characters, it’s what Street Fighter is. Just like SF2 only returned very few characters from SF1, SF3 has few returning characters from SF2. It’s not like other Game series where damn near everybody returns to fight yet again in another tournament even if it makes very little sense for some of these people in other games to keep coming back. Hopefully with SF4 when/if it ever happens they will up the number of returning Characters to please fans.

SFA3 had new chars? (if “chars” were in the singular instead of plural, then there’s Karin, but that’s all that comes to my mind for new chars for SFA3. Much as I like the Dolls, I practically wouldn’t count Juni and Juli as new characters the way Capcom handled them, though. …unless you’re including Cody of course).

SF1 had fans?

My thoughts exactly!

Your forgetting Rainbow Mika.

ok dude, my initial response was to flame you for hating, but i calmed down a bit and remembered when i first played it.

i too hated these new “shitty characters”

now bro i LOVE them. change can be hard, but these guys are awesome.

plus hugo was in alpha background,
q is in street fighter 2 background

these guys are awesome, but you have to give them a chance. yes ken, ryu, and akuma (he’s my fav) are great, but yun is sick…alex is really awesome, dudley is awesome…man they’re all really awesome.
accept change…
my dream is a game that uses the 3rd strike engine w/ all the characters…that would be heaven.

I read everyone’s response and I agree I should probably give SF3 more time. However, I think I agree most with nortlee in that I think all the characters should be human instead of weirdo freaks (SF2 had one, SF3 has more than a handful). I am unfamiliar with the story, and am kind of curious how some of you know so much of the SF3 storyline.

Anyhow, I know this might offend some (although I believe my complaints/dislikes are legitamite enough to NOT warrant childlike responses), but I don’t really care much to read into the SF3 story, just because the characters seem so absurd. As for their fighting styles being good in the game, can’t they have the same fighting styles/techniques while still looking normal (human)?

The story is fairly interesting (I liked the SFA and SF2 stories more, but it’s pretty good). Basically, play Double Impact and Third Strike a lot to find out the storyline (or read the uber long and detailed Plot FAQ. I’ve done both :bgrin: )

As much as you don’t like the weirdo freaks, they absolutely fit in with SF3’s story. Could they look human? …eh… I suppose so, but since the game’s been out for years, it’s a moot point.

I disliked Karin. I LOATHED R. Mika. I like Cody VERY STRONGLY (fav FF character and one of my top fav chars), BUT I like FF Cody…they kinda messed him up in SFA3. Then again, I’m finally playing the game now (didn’t have it for DC until now). I think they should of put a stronger emphasis on FF Cody’s moves in the game. The only thing that was FF was his Final Destruction move and his other super. They should of had his knee bash (air and ground). The knife was a nice touch, but his body form was wrong in SFA3

I strongly disliked the re-addition of the Super characters, even though I like them, esp Fei Long. Vega(Balrog) was a nice touch, new moves and all.

Is SF3 going to be a new title (as in a new issue #1), or will it continue off the one we know now?

iwhen i first played street fighter 3 i was like who the hell are these guys.I did,nt even know it was street fighter till i saw ryu an ken in street fighter new genaretion .I got used to them and now i think there really cool.

Oh. Right. R. Mika. Girl keeps slipping my mind for some reason.

Odd Oro doesn’t Look Green to me.

Looking at the SF3 roster it looks like some circus freak show 0.o… Yet they do seem quite interesting at the same time.

But then again how are you going to respond first time to a long blonde half blue half red character who wears only a pair of underwear?

Nah the desings aren’t weak, you just have to be in the same mind as the designers to appreciate them.

When SF3 first came out, the character design I thought was the weirdest and disliked the most was Dudley, but I’ve learned to appreciate him for what he is and now I think the SF3 third strike roster makes a complete circle. There is nobody that seems out of place in my mind.

Dhalsim seemed weirder to me than Blanka did.

Iconography people!!
