Street Fighter 3 NG & 2I Thread

Mmmn, I don’t find cr. fk to be such a great hit confirm either.

Man, NG Sean’s j. fk cross up is great. It’s easy to land and it seems (this is from what it looks like while playing, I haven’t studied the hit box data or anything) that you can vary the timing to change which side of your opponent it hits. And it combos into just about anything. Close strong, close fierce target combo, or crouching strong xx hyper tornado, or close roundhouse xx hurricane kick… just about anything.

Sorry again if this is all well known info, but I’m just loving playing NG with Sean at the moment and slowly finding stuff out for myself!

What puts them in those places? They don’t have as much good shit as the higher tier characters but aren’t as bad as Hugo, lol.

Seriously though… first off, Necro. Earlier in this thread people were saying he’s garbage, mainly because his Electric Snake does almost no stun damage. This is true, but I find Slam Dance to be the best choice for Necro in this game. It has a ridiculous amount of invincibility and will often end up outprioritizing other supers/specials done at the same time. One gimmick I used to love back in the day was doing it over someone when they wakeup in the corner. They have no choice but to jump, and Necro recovers so fast from it when it whiffs that he can tag them out of the air with a db+Fierce launcher, juggle with standing Roundhouse. When they learn about that they can air parry it, but then you can screw with their timing by doing his dp+P instead.
Also, immmediate jumping Strong was a great move for antagonizing your opponent. Poke them in the face and jump away!

Alex is probably a little higher - EX Elbow Slash into Boomerang Raid (with a shorter bar!) is soooo good. The problem is that it can still be hard to get in on the opponent, and the lack of his kara throw hurts. Hell, the omission of f+Fierce hurts too as that was a great move for tagging people out of the air. On the upside his jumping Strong is REALLY good, I don’t know why they replaced it with that garbage-ass move in 3S. There’s really not much else to say about him, he’s same ol’ Alex but he’s in a game where lots of characters can easily hit-confirm normals into supers from a distance, and he’s still stuck with a super that doesn’t get all the hits if he’s not close enough.

Oro might be third-worst? I dunno, he doesn’t really have much going for him at all. Tengu-Stone got neutered from NG, I guess he can still just poke away and chip at their lifebar in the corner but he doesn’t have the ridiculous juggles off it. Hell, he doesn’t even have the standing Strong into hcf+K bread-n-butter juggles from 3S. What DOES he have? I don’t know because I never play him in 2I. I think it’s a fair assessment to say that he’s down there, maybe as bad as Urien. He feels so limited.

Elena I don’t know, she’s another character I never really play. She has some okay combos but I’m not sure how practical they are.

If anyone wants to play this on 2DF sometime, get at me :woot:

I have some sticks coming in the mail at the moment that have USB adapters… then all I need is a PC (I’m on a mac) and I’ll be up for some games.

And yeah, with Alex, I feel that he’s a little better in every addition of SF3 just because the game mechanics added in each game mean a lot for him, ie. EX moves and then yeah, kara throw.

Thanks a heap for the info, great stuff.

2I Oro can do the following combos-
Jumping HK–>St. MK–>HCB+HP
Jumping HK–>Cr. MK–>Charge D then U+P/2P
Jumping HK–>St. MP (2 hits)xxSA1, Jump and grab
I personally think its best to try certain characters with SAs one normally doesn’t use in 3S to be able to find a suitable playstyle for them. You never know what you might find.

BTW can someone post some advanced-ish Yang combos?

, but that’s pretty heavy on combos on a dizzied opponent.

Otherwise, how advanced-ish do you need to be with Yang combos? The best ways to do damage are with his Raishin-Mahakken, which you can buffer off of a low Short-Forward chain, or take the safe route and hit confirm it in a variety of ways. Crouching Strong, f+Forward overhead kick (even on standing opponents), meaty universal overhead are all really good. There’s some wacky juggle stuff you can do with Tenshin-Senkyutai (you can juggle it after the last hit of his knee bash grab!), but pretty much all of those are just for style, not damage.

Also I’ll agree with the earlier statement about Yang being better than Ryu, shouldn’t have had it the other way around in that tier list but I completely forgot about how good Raishin-Mahakken is in this game.

Ok, so if we take BBH’s tier list and swap Akuma and Ibuki, and Yang with Ryu, we get:

Ibuki
Akuma

Sean
Yang
Ryu

Dudley
Ken
Yun

Necro
Oro
Elena
Alex

Urien
Hugo

Any objections? I’d love to add it to the 2I wiki (with of course, a line saying that it may not be all that definite considering that this game no longer has a competitive scene).

I always thought Ibuki was the best in 2I. Ibuki can shut down everyone in that game and so can Akuma. I remember BBH telling me in the old IRC chat that Ibuki is the only person who can actually shut down Akuma is Ibuki. So Ibuki is the best.

I think Yang is above Ryu, and Dudley above Ken. So I agree with that list.

Thanks for the vid BHH.
Been using mostly Urien lately and am getting a better hang of him, I still have trouble against Ken anyone got any tips?

What are some good BnBs for Dudley in 2I?

His target combos are very good BnB, you can also link SAII or III off them easly. If you have EX charged go for Jump RH, Standing RH, EX Machine uppercut then walk a bit standing strong into fierce uppercut.

Thanks for the tips mate, gonna try them out next time I play.

Bump!
Been using a lot of Urien and Necro lately. IMO Urien’s best SA is a tie between 1 & 2. I mostly use 2 since the bar is short and you can combo into it from any normal Tackle.
Also Urien’s pokes are good in this game; St. MP and St. MK are good anti-air/jump-ins.

For Necro…I think he’s better than some rank him to be. Plus his St. MP is cancelable.

Also is it me or is this game ‘faster’ than 3S?

Yep NG/2i is faster than 3S not only that but the frame rate is higher. Capcom sacrificed speed/rate and alternative backgrounds to add the extra 4 characters.

Anyone got the frame data for 2I?

Bump.

Quick question - why doesn’t Hugo have his rapid fire jabs in the dreamcast version? Feel free to ignore if I am being dumb.

Do you mean his ability to link heaps of them together?

Coz yeah… he can do that in the Dreamcast version. I can’t recall if I’ve ever linked 5 together like I’ve seen in combo videos, though.

I should take a break from Garou and play this game again @_@
Urien’s poke game seems pretty useful in 2I IMO.

A youtube user named TheShend is kind enough to post 72 minutes of video content, highlighting every aspect of SF3:NG (Parrying, endings, combos, stuns, etc…).The entire video is called “Street Fighter III: New Generation - Gamest Mook VHS Vol.36”, which was released in May 1997.

does 2df have 2i online? Just wondering cuz I love SF3 in general, and wanna play some 2i, even though I don’ like Ibuki in that game besides her outfit colors. Plus you gotta love Sean and 2 bar denjin ryu.

I wish the punch sounds were the same in 3s as they are in 2i. However the parry sound is superb in 3s :lovin:

2I is available on 2DF, now that my summer holidays have begun I may get on 2DF more (not to mention that I plan to upgrade our net connection to 1 or 2 MBPS)

@Dragon- Man thanks for those vids, some of the stuff in it are great, and their coverage of the game was spot on.
