Streaming and Recording Guide/Research

FME should not be using that much CPU, especially with that resolution. My C2Q is not much more powerful than yours and FME runs on it flawlessly with medium CPU usage at 854x480.

Here’s some factors to consider:
Your CPU or RAM is possibly overheating, the internal case fans or cpu fan may be clogged with dust and overheating over time.
Your RAM sticks may be damaged or have corrupted sectors, your comp is trying to access bad memory sectors giving you problems.
Backround processes my be interfering, make sure to shut any thing you possibly can off before streaming.

Definitely download a CPU heat monitoring program to see if your CPU is overheating, also RAM going out is realistically the problem as well.

Hey, thanks for trying to help me get rid of this problem.

If I have any of the problems that you listed above, why is it that only 1 program uses my CPU so much? Wouldn’t this happen with other programs as well? I don’t run anything in the background while streaming. I will download a heat monitor and get back to you with results. But I don’t understand why this would only happen with a single program.

I just ran memtest. No errors. Then I ran Prime95 for a full hour. Not one hiccup. There is nothing wrong with my computer unless it’s just not strong enough to stream as is.

Are you using the latest FME? 3.0 or 3.1? They’re known to use a lot more CPU than 2.5 did, not this much but it’s definitely noticeable. Reinstall to FME 2.5 and use CMD mode to save as much CPU as possible, also use VHMulticam to capture your source and set the resolution to whatever you’re streaming to so FME doesnt have to rescale the picture.

If CMD mode is too much of a hassle, do not run preview windows in FME as that also uses up a lot of CPU.

Anyone use this before?

BlitzBox HD

Again, thanks for your help. I am using 3.1. I will use 2.5 and do exactly what you say and let you know. Much appreciated. :china:

Holy shit. I think the issue is resolved. I downgraded to FME 2.5 and everything is working including my OLD Wirecast (the new one still doesn’t work). But now I can run streams for any period of time without dropped frames. I’m able to increase resolution and everything. Thanks a lot. FME 2.5 for life.

I have a (probably stupid) question for those with the Hippauge. Is there any way to change the input resolution on the Recorder program that comes with it? I’d like to be able to record in a resolution accepted by FMLE.

Thanks in advance!

Do you want to record or stream ? The only way to stream with Hauappauge is using a screen cap software.

Other thing: My Wirecast (3.5.8) doesn’t recognize the Stereo Mixer. Anyone know what happening ?

I think I’ve decided on going with the Hauppague HD PVR to replace my EasyCrap. Was thinking of getting a dazzle/diamondvc500 but might aswell spend the extra money for quality.

Now my problem is this:
I use a VH263H LCD Monitor to play my games, it has the VGA, DVI, HDMI.
With the EasyCap this is how I get everything to work:
XBOX to VGA Splitter
VGA splitter output to monitor and VGA splitter output to S-Video
S-Video into the EasyCap

Now with the Hauppague HDPVR I dont see that it takes in any VGA and I’d like to play in HD since it can record in HD.
This is what I was thinking it would be:
XBOX Component cables into Hauppague HDPVR
HDPVR Component out into HDMI convereter? <— THis is the step that I’m worried about, will it work alright?

That’s pretty much all there is to it right if I were to use the Hauppague?

Personally I would go xbox > HDMI out > hdmi powered splitter > out1 to monitor , out2 to HDFury2 to component to DVR. But that’s me. I don’t want any lag creeping in from recording devices.

Can someone recommend a good cam or webcam plz?

Hey guys, I have a question. I’m setting for streaming and I have the following rig. Xbox -> Video to Hippauge -> Audio to Mixer -> Mixer back to Hippauge in -> to PC.

Any way I can get it so that the Mic audio isn’t heard on the TV that is being outputted?

Nevermind, I got it. I just put a component splitter so that the Hippauge is the only thing getting those two audio sources.

I’ve changed my mind again lol… I think I’m just going to go and get the BlackMagic Intensity Pro… It’s too much of a hassle and work around to getting it to go to my monitor with component/vga or anything not HDMI. With the Intensity Pro I just need 2 HDMI cables lol

I’m currently working on putting together a streaming station with my computer that I built 2 years ago. Here are the following components. I’m hoping this will be enough to stream the main station and a couple web-cams for player / commentators.

1 x ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
1 x Thermaltake Purepower W0129RU 600 W ATX12V SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply
1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor BX80562Q6600
2 x OCZ Fatal1ty Edition 4GB (2x2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory (The Official Memory of the Championship Gaming Series)
1 x XFX PVT88PYDF4 GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card
LG 32LD450 Display 1/2 frame lag
Ce Labs AV501 HDX - HD Component Amplifier

Black Magic Intensity Pro Capture Card
2 x Logitech Pro 9000
Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer
Shure SM58 Mic

Xsplit beta 2 - XSplit - Going Live is Simple for compiling the stream

I don’t have the resources for Wirecast yet so I’m going to see how Xsplit works out to compile the stream.

I’ve also found a pretty basic but decent video walk through on setting up a stream on YouTube from a JustinTV user who does a pretty good job of explaining all the hardware/software of how it should work. Definitely worth checking out.

I’m still waiting for my Intensity Pro and Component Amplifier so I can’t do any testing yet but just wanted to check here to see if anyone has any gripes about my CPU and if its up to snuff to run a stream.

After I get everything setup I’ll post my findings and demos.

Diagram of my theoretical stream setup…

nice info

is my diagram correct? if not please let me know what’s wrong, ty

Setup:
AMD Athlon X4 640
2x2GB DDR3 1333

Yeah that set up should work fine.

thanks, been trying to use xsplit and i cant get it to work. it causes manycam to crash everytime. using FME 2.5 if that helps.

Why are you trying to use manycam and xsplit? do you have had a webcam/capture device that cant be detected by xsplit? Are you actually trying to use manycam in xsplit and select xsplit as a source in FME to stream?
