He does speak some truth. Remember, we don’t really have a lot of time to focus a team around him and really synergize with him so it is possible. He still feels lacking, but a good team setup would make up for some of that. And he only needs to hit you once to REALLY hurt you.
That’s actually what I’ve been thinking about Thor this entire time.
A Character with a massive particular strength and one huge weakness in MvC3 is practically begging for people to just find the appropriate assist to abuse or character to DHC off of… Keep in mind that some of the top tiers in MvC2 felt the same way “Stupidly overpowered in X, but gets owned by Y” … So you put something that counters Y as an assist and suddenly your team is godlike.
Granted, I don’t see Thor being too awesome if AG stays the way it is right now.
I just really want to know about his power dunk being overhead (or not). If it is, it should be a fucking awesome assist.
With Thor on point? I dunno. Are their currently any other characters that have an assist that hits low?
I think one of X-23’s assists hits low?
one of felicias, one of X-23’s and one of weskers that I know of offhand.
You know, in theory I think this sounds like a great idea, but I have to wonder, then, why big, slow, heavy, melee hitters have literally never been good in any other game.
Also, ditto on the advancing guard thing. If they don’t fix that, I’m gonna cry.
Because they don’t give them enough tools to close distance on zoners. Technically, Sentinel is a big melee character, but he could get in and apply pressure because of flight. Colossus was more of the traditional type of big melee, and he was the best traditional because he had a great dash, good normals, and his hyper armor super.
All the other bigs have horrid dashes, horrid jumps, and even horrid normals and horrid specials with horrid hitboxes and horrid recovery. I think it’s good that Capcom gave Hulk a great normal with his s.C (I think), but what he, like all bigs, need is a QUICK AND SAFE way of closing distance.
I.e look at potemkin. He’s in a fast paced, techinical, combo heavy game. They should take a good look at him because iirc there hasn’t been a char in a fast paced game that was as good as him.
Or they need head crush.
This, and add the fact that we don’t have the entire roster yet. What if there is a character that has yet to be revealed who works like magic with Thor? (i.e. Strider/Doom in MvC2)
In , the first bit of action has thor doing his powerdunk with deadpool ‘quick as the wind’ assist. I presume it being UB is why it’s displayed in the vid suffice powerdunk is an overhead and DP’s assist hits low.
Good shit guys. I didn’t even notice that point your brought up with the Thor trailer. Nice observation–I’m going to assume it’s an overhead for sure then.
He really needs to be faster :\
um
not TOO fast
he needs some speed,yes
but hes one of the brawler types
so he’s gotta be slow
i saw a move where he did somthing similar to storms charge so if thats safe we could close some distance with that move
But being slow pretty much automatically relegates him to low tier. When was the last time that a slow character did well on the versus engine?
Mike Z’s Juggernaut was good. Sentinel was good (kinda slow). Blackheart was good. Colossus was alright on some teams and he didn’t have an airdash.
I think it can work. At least he has strength to make up for speed. If you want to zoom around the stage just go pick Wesker or X23 or something.
Thor’s got an 8 way dash right? Can he fly? He looks like he has some pretty good mobility, especially if his hammer slam special is safe.
edit: is his hammer dive special really called power dunk?
it’s called ‘mighty strike’ but the grounded short version is like power dunk. I’m speculating Thor has more than painful hits, but I need to get my hands on the game. YJDK. He does have 8-way AD and apparently flight.
bunk
Juggernaut had a powerful glitch and one of the fastest/best supers ever. Sentinel had cross-the-screen reach and high-speed flight. Blackheart was a range-focused character. And Colossus was “meh” at best competitively. Plus, all of them (except Blackheart, who wasn’t melee-dependent) had some form of super/hyper armor. In other words, they all had some form of speed, whether it was movement, attack, or just not needing to be close to the opponent. Speed, in some form, is essential for any character to be good.
well thor has his mighty strike for speed and mobility and also priority, combined with his 8 way air dash. He’s also got a projectile and a command grab.
Does he have just one command grab? or is his air grab a command grab?
I saw a vid on Keits’ channel with a (bad) Thor spamming it and getting punished. The Thor was pretty bad, but it didn’t look safe on block.
EDIT - Keits’ view on Thor in the Wakeup SRK is that he’s not good at all. And it’s NOT the typical “I’m a super-rushdown, unimaginative player that played with this character match and deemed him crap because he’s not Dante” view either. He played mostly alone, trying to prove some theory he had to make him good, and it was all for failure. His summary is the same things everyone else has noticed: He can’t zone because his Mighty Bolt is so high that everyone can duck it. And he can’t rush because his dashes, both air and ground, are way too slow. And his grab has awful range.
