Right. Well, he is “underbaked” as S.Kill would say.
At the Atlanta Fight Club, there’s a new build. New build=character changes, right? Whoever goes needs to see if Thor’s improved. He’s the fraggin’ God of Thunder for Asgard’s sake, he needs to not be relegated to the bottom tier. As I’ve said before, if he’s as good as Alex was in TvC, we’ll be in business. He just needs more command throw range, I suppose slightly improved speed, and a good, safe “dash” attack to close the distance. He already hits like a truck, so what he really needs are the three things listed above, in my opinion.
That’s if the team is trying to bake him in the first place. Every new vid I see Dante doing yet another new move on top of all the other crap he has (seriously, why does he need all those moves? The best Dante players were only using 2-3 air specials and those homing missiles).
There might not be any Thor fans/appreciators on the team to develop him beyond crap tier, in my pessimistic view
Actually, I think he needs a damage tone.
It’s obvious the team is trying to do the usual “balance” of power vs speed with regards to a power character, and that almost always results in a bad character that’s too slow to ever get a hit in. And that “balance” is pointless anyway since pixie characters are almost always able to do ridiculous damage regardless
I doubt that they get that balance right with regards to a power character (not on purpose, anyway) so I think they should tone Thor’s damage slightly and compensate him with faster movement and a better throw.
I have a feeling that X-Factor mode what with increased speed and damage Thor may be something to look out for, since he seems to do pretty ridiculous damage of a normal combo anyway. I also don’t think his grab is what people will focus one, his normal attacks seem to do stupid damage.
I’m no expert on VS games mind (or any for that matter) but still, I think if people do use him it will be just on point at the beginning hit them with a combo - X factor - and then another combo which should I think kill a fair amount of the cast esp if you cancel into a hyper, and then just swap him out and never use him again.
Like just hit hard and once and then just jump him back.
Disagree entirely, the integrity of the current character design can be maintained. He does need a few overall buffs ( you mentioned his projectile, his grab range is also kind of pathetic and power dunk needs to be faster, etc. )… but he’s definitely not that bad. He’s just not a character you can put on point and expect to do well from the start.
If he had a way to get close enough to grab, and if his grab didn’t have horrible range and startup, that would be awesome. At present, that doesn’t appear to be the case (especially given that his power dunk is apparently unsafe on block).
Right now, the game is in the beta stage and a lot of it is still being developed. It may be anywhere from a few months to a few years before we get any idea of how the characters do in the final game. Anything about balance now should not be taken into consideration (or at least with a huge grain of salt) because it could very easily be different in the final build.
Here’s the real problem: despite all the talk about the character, Capcom has given us no reason to think they see ANY problem with him, even in his current incarnation (which we have no way of knowing how complete he is). Every official response has come in the form of, “He’s fine,” with no indication that they’re even interested in seeing if there might be an issue. If we got a response of, “We see that there’s a lot of talk, so we’re looking at options in this area and that area,” it’d be a lot easier to be patient.
I’ve not seen anything in quite a while talking about him being unfinished. I know that was said once right after his reveal, but no such thing was mentioned at NYCC or even TGS as far as I know.
