I reckon thor could build at least one bar off amaterasu assist alone with that taunt.

call out an assist that protects Thor (MODOK reflector, Ammy reflect) or something that homes in on the opponent like the Doom Rockets.

I can see a ton of options on this. Obviously, any number of assists: Doom rocks/missiles, Ammy cold stars/reflector, any of Dorm’s assists (especially a charged up PotC), MODOK shield, Skrull tenderizer, anything from Arthur, Chun’s kicks, Chris’s mine, Trish’s traps, Dante’s jam session, etc. etc. And there’s also other hyper combos that you could DHC or unleash and then call Thor in, like Dorm’s floating bomb, Storm’s hail, Mag’s tempest, Ammy’s or Joe’s slowdown, Morrigan’s missiles, Trish’s scythe, etc. You could even bait the opponent with the taunt, then cancel into Thornado as they rush in, since he’s invincible inside it, or even taunt xx KFC xx hyper, or taunt to bait a projectile xx hyper xx DHC into beam hyper.
The brilliance of this is that it creates a ton of possibilities, because your opponent NEEDS to interrupt it as quickly as possible, but has to be really careful to do something you can’t predict and bait them for.
There’s already a move exactly like this guys, and its been tested some. Funny animation/sound aside, its not actually that useful
Difference is the movesets. Felicia lacks the tools to punish you if you try to interrupt it. Thinking this move will be used to make the opponent come to you during fights and allow for Thor to control the pace of the fight. Hoping you can cancel it into Mighty Spark. LOL.
Thor’s thing is if you can manage against keepaway, hopefully his mighty spark can eat some bullets to provide a defense. Pretty much a bait for rushdown if can cancel into mighty spark.

Yup. Thor is a different beast than Felicia (no pun intended). Felicia NEVER wants the opponent coming to her. True, she wants to be close, but she wants to be doing the rushing/offense, and when she’s not, she doesn’t want anyone close to her. Thor, on the other hand, wants the opponent close to him, regardless of who goes to whom. And Thor’s got a tool set that (while he definitely needs good assists) makes interrupting this quite dangerous. He’s got Mighty Strike/Smash to move around and counter incoming stuff; he’s got Mighty Spark, which has tremendous health for a projectile and is great anti-air (as far as we can tell); and he’s got Thornado for total invincibility.
While this alone won’t rocket Thor to god tier, I think it opens the door for him to be a real competitor, and combined with the other changes that Keits and some others are rumoring, Thor just might turn out to be a pleasant surprise.
You can bet Wesker will get in that ass if you try and taunt him.
Straight onslaught and if taunt cancellable then that will be pointless. Eat a mighty spark to your shit. Big decider if the awesome norse smack talking can be cancelled into another special then damn, Thor just became a different beast.
again, presuming its like Felicia’s, its cancellable, but how are your reactions? Barring invulnerability on his throws (which Thor doesn’t have) he doesn’t particularly want to just be the victim of pressure either. I don’t wanna be a killjoy or start a Felicia vs. Thor thing, but all the thought processes for this kind of move have been done, and Thor’s moveset doesn’t actually change it much.

Big difference is Thor has moves that are more effective to counter rushdown. Mighty Spark is one example or his might strike or hammer spin and his hammer thrust as well. His big problem is him getting close to rushdown. The taunt FORCES the rushdown to come to you. Or huge bar build up to start DHCs with.
His moveset with the taunt turns him into a different animal when facing rushdown characters and will give him a better match ups by making rushdown character rush towards him with him in control. This means he gains control of the pacing. Does anybody want to allow him to perform a BnB on our low health rushers?
Well I think the thing is that this is going to be a fairly advanced tactic. The player is going to have to know the opposing characters and what they can (and are likely to) do to stop him from building meter. If he’s facing Dormammu, he’s going to have to cover with something that keeps Dorm blocking and unable to open a dark hole; if it’s Iron-Man, something that prevents or cancels out a beam; if it’s X-23, look for the hop and put something in the way that beats it; if it’s Wesker or Phoenix, anticipate the teleport and Thornado, etc. etc. None of these things are really options for Felicia.
Like I said, Thor didn’t suddenly jump to top tier because of this, but one of the biggest things holding him back has been being unable to get close to his opponents. With this, he can make them (a lot of them, anyway) feel pressured to come to him.
From what we’ve seen I just don’t think mighty spark will be that much of a disincentive, hammer spin maybe.
I agree that it’s a tool to get people to have to come at them (unless they’re iron man or Doom or Deadpool or Chris), but I think that’s mostly what it’ll be, that and maybe a bit of a meter charge after a KO.
Edit: My original point, which I lost at some point was that you can’t really expect this to get much time with this out of assist cover. Assists just don’t last that long, and the ones that do are fairly easy to get around.
I guess what it does is at least partially fill one major gap in Thor’s game: the ability to apply any sort of pressure to his opponent. This taunt thing is no Ouroboros or fast teleport, but it feels to me a bit like giving E. Honda a fireball or something–it’s the one tool that the character is SEVERELY lacking.
You’re forgetting something important, most of y’all: characters cover ground in this game super-fast, so you won’t get much charge off before they’re on you. And most rushdown have a projectile they can use >_<.
Don’t try this against Chun, X-23, Spiderman, or Dante.
That’s what assists are for. That’s also why we’re talking about baiting tactics.
