Ok, I think I’m ready for my write up. First off, I just want to give a huge thanks to all the organizers, streamers, everyone that helped, but most importantly, Triple Quadruple Mr. OG Kurropi. I’m not saying that there wouldn’t be ST at EVO if not for him, but for sure it would never be on this scale. And for that, I am super grateful.
I’ve been going to EVO since 2010, and what makes EVO special to me will always be the people. All the buddies from all the corners of the globe coming together to share a common hobby. Without you guys, EVO wouldn’t be worth going to. Don’t get me wrong, I love ST, but if the scene was fulled with a bunch of assholes, I wouldn’t spend the time and effort to show up. I wanted to start listing names here, but I have a short memory so I don’t want to leave anyone out, which I’m sure I would have. You guys know who you are. I also want to apologize to a lot of the guys that I just met for the first time but didn’t have enough time to hang out. It’s not an excuse, but EVO is too big and there isn’t enough time to hang out with everyone all at once. I was going to list names here too, but I had to back up and delete the list. I know I’m going to leave someone out here too.
Highlights of the event had to be the Afro and Damdai show. Those guys proved time and time again that they are the best in the US. They both have that X factor that separates them from the pack. Shout outs to you guys. I tried to keep my distance from Damdai in the past to keep up that East Coast vs West Coast rivalry, but that’s just stupid. The scene is too small, and Damdizzle is too cool guy. You have to consciously try and make a huge effort to not like the guy. I’m not going to lie, I used to tell everyone that Damdai isn’t that good, because I never saw him do anything fancy. But now I realize, he IS that good, but because he never does anything fancy. He does what he has to and nothing more. He never misses what he’s trying to do because he never over extends himself. That in it self is a huge factor for his wins. Sorry I underestimated you Damdizzy. Our skill level is miles apart, I need to pick your brain on how you stay focused when ever we get the chance.
Besides the tourney, the other thing that was super fun was the casuals in Damdai and Mike’s room. I know I came in a bit tipsy so I apologize for being obnoxious. I think that was really fun because after the tourney was over, everyone could actually loosen up and just have a good time. The ST games was really fun, but I think next year, I would prefer less tourneys and more time to hang out casually like we did that night.
Welp, it’s 2:16am and I’m kind of tipsy so it’s time to sigh off. ST community, I love all of you, you are the best community in the fight game scene. I’ll leave you with some wise words from a wise man I once met.

PS. Ok, so I just proof read this shit and I only mentioned 4 names. Thats pretty shitty. I had a few glasses of wine and I’m a bit tipsy, so I apologize profusely if I missed anyone. But here I go. In no particular order what so every. If I did miss you name, I owe you drinks at the next EVO. One love. And that love is ST.

All this ST recently had made me a pretty shitty hubby. I’m going to take some time off to make up for that. So sorry if I disappear for a while. But don’t worry, I’ll be back like that thing you caught in Bangkok before you want it. Know it I mean. You know. Sir Papercups signing off.

I’d love to repeat what Papercut just said, as that was pure awesomeness, but I’d rather just piggyback what he wrote. In short, I agree completely that our community is above and beyond awesome; it’s just as fun hanging and talking with everyone as it is playing matches. Congrats to everyone in this community for keeping the game alive and strong in the USA!
Special thanks to Thrust07 for literally doing 90% of the player calling and for updating brackets, calling matches, etc. Same thing to Fudd for helping with planning, brackets, name calling, etc. Another BIG thanks to Watson for supporting the entire ST Revival from the beginning. One more thanks to Armando for bringing professional streaming to our community without asking for anything in return. Even more thanks to Sergjiev/Arkadeum, Ryan/Pockyless/BlastCity, Andy/ParoDa, eltrouble/MillerTime, Voltech, Bernie, Undamned, and Papasi for supporting like crazy and working so hard to bring quality ST to everyone. Last special thanks to Dark Gaiden and Vintage for moving ST toward a better future through testing platforms, transporting equipment, purchasing equipment and parts, and coming out to support as much as possible. ALL OF YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Ok, one last thanks to all of the Don’t Blow This crew for maintaining ST prior to its resurgence in the West Coast.
I’m not going to make another list, but tons of love and thanks to everyone on Papercut’s list and more.
Hadouken69: They were REAL chicken strips
Damn you undamned. Even though I cheated looking at the brackets, I missed you. I spent a good 30 mins or so hanging out and chating about your supergun too. I might not have enough money to go evo next year. Owe too many people drinks. Speacial shout outs to undamned for solving the logistics problem of ST tourneys. I have this really eerie feeling im still leaving people out.
Mike, you left out the most important homie of yours …
i believe you do not owe him a drink, but now a bottle
we even made a midnight wake up call to his boat
Contradicted yourself. Ha
That guy didn’t even bother to show up. F that guy.
Only in the ST scene would we see a bunch of dudes drunk dialing a guy at 3am in the morning, lol. Wish we could’ve seen papasi’s face when he heard that voicemail the first time.
Would be dope if he put that voicemail on youtube so we could all hear it again.
I bet you he was so touched that he cried tears of happiness.
indeed i owe you guys drinks too.
i was at work when i played back that vm on speaker. had to immediately mute it lmao
luckily it was my cell not my home phone, you guys are nuts (apparently i was told that drunk papercut is the culprit)
Drunk papercut is always the culprit of any wrongdoings in the ST community. Just assume that for future reference.
There’s a lot to say about my experience at evo, but the best part to me was the main motherfucker afro legends. His dedication to the game is something I have never seen from any American player. He’s there just to see the highest level of play reached from within, and that’s why he’s such a machine. He doesn’t get shitfaced cause he can’t win, or complain about matchups, or whine about the setup, or whatever it is that a lot of us have been guilty of. Much respect to kuroppi for making all this possible, damdai for hosting the ST session and his consistent performance as a top player, Mars for showing us a level of play that an American can reach with such a difficult character like Guile; Man I can go on, you guys are great, especially the EC crew.
I hope the fire inside burns on Afro, and I hope to give you a better challenge next year. You are the player to I look up to the most.
GGS Guys. Don’t let ST die. Ever. You don’t have to dedicate all your time to it, but support it any way you can, going to evo, local majors and gatherings, even playing on ggpo and watching streams. EVO is only once a year, for a few days, and that’s all it takes.
Someone save this heart attacked soul @ 2:25 XDDD hahaha

Thanks ultra, I appreciate the kind words but there are a lot better players out there. Not tryna say I got lucky like pharrell, but I was in the right place at the right time and the chips so happened to fall my way.
I really enjoyed the ST games. These tournaments are getting better and better. Better recordings, better setup, more players, etc. However, if my feedback is worth anything, there are few things I missed compared to the 2012 ToL:
As a side note, everyone praises the hard work of the organizers for making the ST games so amazing but during the tournament many players were giving the organizers a hard time having them to chase people to be on time and follow the schedule. I didn’t have that feeling watching the other evo games and I think players should help more on that aspect to keep ST a successful tournament.
Sorry if I got something wrong. I wasn’t there in person and I can only give my feedback as online spectator.
Update: As I say in a later post the list of things I liked is way longer but they have already been said by other people. Congrats to strevival crew to make such a great event for ST fans!
We were very fortunate that EVO let us have the top 8 on stage last year. That’s not going to be possible every year and there are too many newer games to compete with now to expect it to be on stage again.
Doing four tournaments in two days was very ambitious and we did pull it off but I think if we did another ST GAMES in the future, running three tournaments would be better. Four was a little too hectic and tiring both for the organizers and the players.
There wasn’t a French “qualifier” this year, since ST GAMES wasn’t a qualifier event but a tournament where everyone at EVO could enter. We would definitely welcome including a French (or other countries) qualifiers in the future though, if it applies to the tournament we are running.
Thanks for the feedback! Feedback from viewers and players are welcome as it helps us plan for next year.
