Str presents: the st games @ evo 2013!

http://www.strevival.com/2013/07/11/st-games-results

I was curious how the rest of the points played out:

  1. AfroLegends (37)
  2. Damdai (36)
  3. Kusumondo (23)
  4. Ganelon (18)
  5. ultracombo (14)
  6. DGV (13)
  7. Marsgatti (11)
  8. CVital (10)

Thanks Ganelon. I can update the full list hopefully this weekend. Have to catch up with real life first. :stuck_out_tongue:

You mean it was all fake?!

Kusumondo entertained me most o_0 His honda is serious business. Awesome evo by all ST players there.

NKI finally came back into the scene! This forum is different without him with his knowledge and awesome videos.

One question, any whereabouts on the Wolf brothers?

Do I take the red pill or the blue pill…

come to Nor Cal and you’ll find em

They’re in NorCal playing with the NorCal ST guys. I’m totally not jealous.

Neither one made an appearance at Evo this year.

ST Games went great! The whole event went quite smooth thanks to Kuroppi, Armando (ieBattleGrounds), Bernie, and everyone else running brackets, commentating, etc.! UD-CPS2 ran great (save a few unsupported controllers) and had a positive response from everyone I talked to, including top players. My only major regret was that I didn’t bug the Japanese players to try out my system. So far as I know, all of the JP players matches were streamed, meaning they would be playing on the head-to-head cabs. I’m sure I could have at least convinced Kusumondo to give it a shot, being as he was only there for ST, whereas the other JP players also had commitments to other games and didn’t have much time for casuals. I did at least have Kusumondo sign my SSFIIX board

Here are some photos from the event:

Fromo vs Kuroppi (the guy between them was a total jerk. He was yelling throughout the entire match. Kept shouting things like “AHH!!”, “CHEAP STUFF!!” and “FRANCE SUCKS!!” Actually I think that’s Digital Infamy yawning)

Kusumondo & little Kusu Jr. (kid was so cute. He’d pat his dad on the back when he lost a round)

I just thought it was funny to see these kids playing (from what I could see, they had no idea what they were doing) while Damdai and Afro were battling for victory in grand finals of the Grand Finale tournament.

Last match in grand finals of the Grand Finale tournament (yes they switched to UD-CPS2 from the cab. I’m sure someone will elaborate on that “aspect” of the tournament  )

Here’s a little video of my travels and some reflections after the event:

GGs to everyone I played. Honestly, i wasn’t practicing for this tournament and sorta lost my competitive drive heading into EVO and was ready to call it quits and retire after. But then when i got there and started playing, the fire came back. I realized i still love the game. Been playing it all my life and will prolly come back next year for the encore do you want more…

Haha…anyways, thanks for everyone who was a part of making this happen…bob, muffin, armando, dgv, eugene, etc.

I wouldnt have done nearly as well without the great socal players i get to practice against…papercut, shotosallday, digital infamy, moocus, synco, dgv, watson, valle, stacy, millertime, eltrouble, muffin, red venom, ryan, etc…basically all of super arcade crew.

And in closing, i just wanna say west coast is the best coast…

^ great games.
I got to visit the super arcade and meet ST heads there one day.

Thx, I was wondering why they disappeared.

You and your homies in matching wife beaters were adorable.

I know my Honda isn’t as exciting as Kusumondo’s but I didn’t know I put people to sleep.

Good ToL reference there UD, lol. Thanks for all the great photos and post-tourney thoughts.

Don’t take any offense. It’s hard to EVER make a Blanka v. Honda match exciting :stuck_out_tongue:

The EVO 2013 ST GAMES is in the books and from all accounts was a great success! Some well deserved shoutouts need to be given after an event like this:

Mr.Wizard (EVO) – For your generosity in allowing us to run ST GAMES this year. The large ballroom and space we were given was really nice.

Armando (IEBattlegrounds) and his crew: For the awesome stream coverage on both Friday and Saturday. I’m always amazed with all his hard work.

Bernie – Another man who put in an amazing amount of work and probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves. Moving two H2H cabs in the Vegas heat to and from the strip is tough work but he got it done.

Undamned – Thank you for providing your UD-CPS2s for the tournaments. THIS is the future for ST!

Chris Li (EVO) – For all your help making the event run smoothly. And it was a blast to form the old man team with James Chen! : )

ST Games / ST Staff (Muffin Man, DGV (Ken/Tai), Fudd, Zaspacer, eltrouble, Sergjiev, Pockyless) – These guys did all the dirty work needed to get the tournament completed on time. Taking sign-ups, running brackets, doing commentary, finding players, recording matches, getting the medals and payouts to the players and a whole lot of other random stuff that needed to be done.

Papasi / Fatboy / Ghaleon / Nomrah – Unfortunately, none of them could make it out to EVO this year but they still provided a lot of input into the planning process beforehand.

Thrust07 – Thank you so much for all your help. I needed your great set of lungs to call out names but you did even more, helping out with brackets on Saturday. Next time we’ll make sure to not forget our bullhorn so you can save your voice.

Damdai/Mikeidge – For giving up their room and hosting casuals all weekend long. Zaspacer, Fatboy and I hosted casuals last year in our room and we know what kind of sacrifice that is. Casual rooms are half the fun of EVO.

James Chen – For taking time out of his super busy schedule to play in a few of the tournaments and to provide commentary for as much as he could. Your support for ST is always appreciated.

Kusumondo – Thank you again for coming out to attend our event. Kusumondo told me that he really enjoyed the tournament and I am happy to relay that to all of his fans. Your star power really helps boost our tournament to another level.

All the various players who hopped on to do commentary over the weekend.

All the TOs who allowed us to be a part of their tournaments throughout the year:

Alex “CaliPower” Valle (So Cal Regionals)
Eric Small (Winter Brawl)
Myung Kim (GameCenter)
Javi / Chris “Ranma” Chou (Texas Showdown)
Robin “Renegade” Palm (Civil War)
Mike Watson (Super Arcade)
John “SweetJohnnyCage” Gallagher (East Coast Throwdown)
Michael “Slash” Yu (Northwest Majors)
Jesse Baker (Arcade Legacy)

Everyone else who made the trip to EVO to play in ST GAMES, whether it be a local from Las Vegas, all the guys from Super Arcade, the East Coast crew, to our new friend from Germany, PlanetRV and everyone in between. The ST community is amazingly getting bigger and stronger each year. 82 registered for the Grand Finale and while I don’t have the complete numbers, nearly 90 differnet players participated in the ST GAMES tournaments in all! Not bad for a little side tournament!

There are so many people who were involved to help make the tournament what is was so hopefully I have not forgotten anyone! And yes, we already have plans to do something bigger and better next year!

The 20 year anniversary next year MUST be big. Ud-cps2 and arcade cabinet formats.

The ST community is blessed to have someone like you willing to put in the work, time, money (always involved in one way or the other), and everything else that comes, since all those could be applied somewhere else. This shall not go unnoticed.

Hats off.

I think team texas taking out team OG is the turning point of the ST games series.
Otherwise we wouldn’t have a nail biting grand final at the last tournament.

BTW, kuroppi posted this on facebook, if you enjoy the stream / video provided by mando, please donate and share your appreciation for his hard work.

“If you enjoyed the ST GAMES stream from IEBattlegrounds, please throw Armando a couple of bucks (or more) to show your appreciation and to get him to come back and stream our event next year! :)”
