Str presents: the st games @ evo 2013!

There’s a lot of things wrong with your post but I don’t have enough tine to break it down because im at work.

We all want ST on the main stage. It wasn’t our choice. EVO decides who gets the main stage and who doesn’t.

Thanks guys for the answers. Please take it as a feedback from a viewer. The list of good of things I liked is obviously longer but they have already been said by other people. This comes from a true fan of the strevival organization.

@dngr: I apologize again for the things I got wrong. I understand that many things don’t depend on us (the ST crew and fans) and that we are limited by what EVO lets us do.

In other words, I am trying to give the typical ‘feedback for improvement’ that organizers usually want after an event. Please don’t take it as if I am criticizing anyone’s job

For those of you who watched the stream, what were viewer counts like? Were they noticeably higher for certain portions of the tournament than others?

I think there was one point on the second day with 13 hundred viewers or so. I don’t remember how many they were during the grand finals. I saw the rest of the footage on replays but unfortunately you can’t see the view count there :frowning:

Wow, 1300? I think that’s about double of what we were getting last year (non-top 8).

  1. Like previously mentioned, we’re not in control of whether or not we get Evo spot time on the main stream. The primary issue this year was that there were NINE headliner games this year. Nine. That’s unprecedented in Evo’s history, and there was no way we’d get any time to shine on ST. We try to get ST up on the main stage, but since ST is such a niche game that draws in comparatively less viewers than in more modern games, it’s always a struggle.

  2. Agreed. Unfortunatley, with this year’s format, we had very little time to give everyone a break to focus on the game at a later time. 4 tournaments in 2 days is a pretty brutal affair that took its toll on everybody from the players, TOs, commentators, casters, and spectators. Time was in thin supply, so we tried our best to get done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

  3. We missed seeing them too. This year was an open tournament, so they were more than welcome to join us. But I understand that it’s quite a significant financial and time investment to come to Evo. Special shoutout to PlanetRV from Germany. This was his first year at Evo, and he came to only play in ST. He has only been playing the game a few months, with some prior HDR experience, and most definitely enjoyed his time out here. It took him 30 hours of total travelling time to get from his home to Vegas, and I really enjoyed seeing that kind of dedication and passion.

As far as having to chase players down, it’s a common problem. TOs would love it if players dutifully stayed the entire day and were ready to play their match at a moment’s notice, but practically, it’s not always going to happen. The majority of hold-ups for any and all tournaments, is trying to chase down players and have them run their matches.

^^^ Wanted that rematch!

I didn’t watch the stream (obviously) but this site recorded that there were 2416 viewers by the end of the team tourney: http://beastnote.blogspot.com/2013/07/evolution-2013-day-2-summary.html

We missed you at Evo buddy. We haven’t seen each other in a long time. How’s everything going for you?

Yeah, I wanted to go. But, I just simply couldn’t due to my injury. I wasn’t even able to sleep in a bad at that time. However, I am healing up nicely. Still can’t use a joystick well - but its only a matter of time.

Give my best to Miller Time.

holy shit, what the fuck happen? Are you ok bro? How did you get injured that bad?

Thanks for the concern.

It was a freak weight lifting accident. I was tired and had a lot on my mind, so I wasn’t paying attention. Which is normally the perfect combination for self injury.

I ruptured my pectorals major tendon.

I was in the middle of my set, 230x6x3 ( a reasonable weight and manageable ). I burned out in set 3 - I started re-rack the weight and I missed the hook by a fractions of an inch. This caused the bar to ricochet of the rack with a lot of force and velocity in an awkward angle. I tried to correct movement, but doing so put my arm in a awkward position and pop, there goes my pec - I ripped it right off the bone.

After they reattached the tendon, I couldn’t sleep on a bed b/c it caused my arm to fall in certain positions that pulled on operated area, which was extremely discomforting. Anyway, its been 5 weeks since they reattached it, and I have bee working with my Physical Therapist and still slowly getting better. They say the total recovery time is 9 months to a year.

But, to be honest I am just happy they could fix it. There are many injuries that are much worse. So, I am gratefully that a full (or 90%/95%) recovery is expected.

I wasn’t ready for that. What actually happened sounds much more painful than what I imagined. I thought you were in a cast or something, but nope, muscle ripped off bone. yikes. what were you doing, bench press? get better soon buddy. You were missed at EVO 2013.

Yikes. It sounded much worse than I thought it would be. I had heard it would take pretty long to recover, but Bob was scarce on the details. I hope you make a full recovery as soon as possible.

I hope you recover from that. I’ve injured myself during a leg press exercise and I had to stop working out. Sucks.

Yeah, it was on bench press.

Kinda late on this but that’s what I get for not really keeping up with SRK lately. Here is my cliff’s notes version writeup, which I’m sure will be long enough anyway.

I’m not as good as I should be with keeping up with everyone’s names, not just for games but life in general. So I’ll spare the pain of excluding anyone and just thank everyone as a whole that I was fortunate enough to work with, play with, and just be around. This includes Evo weekend, the time spent planning for ST games and even ToL last year for the parts I was privileged enough to support. You guys are all great and in my time playing and supporting fighting game tournaments over the last 15 years or so, you are among the best people I’ve gotten to know and work with. Which is amazing to me that I’ve gotten to know so many of you at this point, considering that I don’t play online at all. No GGPO or XBL/PSN, whatever. From what I’ve heard, maybe it’s best that I stay that way at the expense of bettering my game haha. Hats off to the ST players and organizers for being fine people first, in addition to keeping your head on your shoulders collectively. Believe me, this is definitely not the case across the entire FGC. For the record, I hate that stupid term btw…

From my perspective, ST Games and ToL were a huge success both as a whole and individually. Again, this all points to the people running it, playing in it, and definitely Evo staff for supporting and allowing us (mainly you guys) to do what you do. I don’t think anyone here doesn’t want ST to be on the main stage but it’s not our decision. I would also think that anyone that was at Evo last year for ToL would agree with me that I was more than thrilled to see how much space we had this year for ST Games. Night and day, really.

With regards to the cabs, well that really ties into my future as well. As of now, I just don’t see myself playing or supporting the scene nearly as much as I’ve been lately or in the past. I’ve already cut down a ton of my playing time for whatever games that I did still play and I’m likely on purpose gonna continue to cut down the supporting efforts as well. It’s just life taking over as time goes by, so I’ll leave it at that. As far as how that relates to ST events at Evo in the future, as long as Evo stays in Vegas I will make every effort to bring my equipment and support the ST Revival effort any way that Kuroppi and co. ask me to. But at this point, those efforts are not gonna include hauling cabs back and forth. This is the 3rd time I’ve done it and, despite this year being the smoothest process by far, it’s still a logistical nightmare for me to continue to do this. There are other factors driving this decision, but that’s what it really boils down to. Lucky for us we now have a viable solution in UD-CPS2. All we need going forward are CRTs and optionally a stable playing surface/structure, which is potentially tons easier than hauling cabs around anyway. UD-CPS2 is and should be the present and future of offline ST events in this part of the world. We all should be supporting the efforts of Undamned rather than hold on to the hope of having cabs every year. They are nice and I personally prefer playing on cabs for a lot of reasons, but it’s almost 100% not gonna happen again with my own cabs. Hopefully everyone enjoyed them because I brought them every year specifically for everyone to enjoy.

I travel somewhat regularly for work, so hopefully I’ll continue to run into more of you in the future. Can’t wait to meet even more of you and get some games and good times in. For anyone that promised me drinks, I’ll be sure to collect when I’m in town, wherever and whenever that is.

Yeah, it was on bench press.

Don’t be fooled by Fatboy’s story. He just came up with a creative way to get out of hauling Kurocab to EVO this year.

Awfully dramatic. A simple “No” wouldn’t suffice?

Rumor was that you tore it doing some advanced yoga technique. I’d like to think it’s the one that grants you the ability to do Yoga Inferno. Your version is far less interesting :frowning:

ST Games was awesome, I caught most of the stream and glad to see all those tournaments go smoothly. Well the finals of one of them (the ratio tournament?) only showed the Damdai and Afro’s faces as they played but no complaints- thank to Mando and guys for all the work streaming it! I saw MillerTime get really far in the brackets too, good job for a new player with Honda no less. But what happened with Kusumondo?! I just remember him blocking about 16 low tigers from Ultracombo at full screen, in two sets of the ratio tournament. I kept waiting for a hard punch headbutt but maybe the recovery time on the tiger shots are just too quick? In any case, Ultra did enough high tigers too to keep up the guessing game. And after all the tournaments leading right up to the grand final of the last one this year, you gotta love how razor close the medal count was between Damdai and Afro Legends. btw how do the medals get counted in terms of how many silvers equal a gold in terms of total points count?

Sorry to hear about the accident, fatboy, heal that up and hopefully we’ll see you again by next year and more commentating.
