Yeah. If you need money just ask for it. If someone wants to helps you then sure… Don’t take advantage of people who are impulsive or ignorant. I am perfectly fine with that. If some average joe gets into an accident and raffles off some of his stuff to get there that’s fine.
For the record I’m perfectly okay with raffles like that. It serves a purpose and, to me, feels like a legitimate way to support someone.
I know it’s been said a million times already in this thread, but it crosses the line when the raffle is just to make money or to fund something someone can already afford.

It’s very hard to balance people rights and liberties against the desire to protect them from themselves or more powerful entities who may prey upon them. Reasonable people can reach different conclusions about where to draw the line: just look at the opinions on nicotine, alcohol, and marijuana regulation. Using “looks like a duck” methodology, I still the lottery is just as bad as a tax against the poor an the ignorant and the state has no business being in that business.
At least we live in a country with at least some representative government so these things can change over time (albeit usually very slowly). Even that seems at risk with Citizen’s United, etc. Hopefully the pendulum sings back the other way soon (maybe when the baby-boomer batch of politicians start retiring en mass…).

There are. Fight for Relief was one. We’ve done at least one before on FinestKO at an event called Battle at the Capitol, which was entirely a charity event. There’s going to be a charity raffle at the big Persona 4 Arena stream we’re doing too on release day. Raffles are always good when they’re for charity; unfortunately most of the raffles in the FGC are not.

This thread serves a purpose, and a great one at that. It’s a warning. You want to continue raffling? Fine. Go ahead. But consider this a placeholder for a BIG “I told you so.” from Ponder. One of these days, someone is going to get pissed about losing yet another random raffle off someone’s stream, beit JWong’s, FChamp’s, whomever and who have you, and they’re going to cause a big stink. A legal department is gonna get a hand on it and shit’s gonna hit the fan. What if someone under 18 bought a “ticket” for a raffle? What if they have an angry, self-righteous parent?
Granted, this is considering it suddenly goes to an extreme(and my example is obviously a worst-case-scenario), but an extreme that could be extremely devastating. Kotaku, the idiots they are, will feed off the scandal like the leeches they are and post propaganda and libel like it was the f’in’ armaggedon. And it may as well be, at that point. Especially once IGN gets their hands on it and starts spreading word like it’s the plague. Then we’ll continue to be the laughingstock of esports, exposed for the poor frauds that we are acting like.
Again, though, this is all worst-case scenario. The world could blow up tomorrow for all I know. It has the potential to be bigger than life, or it could just fly under the radar forever. This is just Ponder putting the orange jacket on during the hunting trip. Wear just camo if you want, but if you get shot then that’s your own damn fault.
