i’m putting this together to hype up local tournaments… basically, i want what you guys think are the hypest matchvids for me to edit the best clutch moments out of. even better if they’re not too long.
Ok, that makes sense. It was mostly done after jump-ins, no FADCs. Honda seems to be better…like his headbutt damage (chip, even) seems unchanged compared to everyone else being toned down. Didn’t really play dic too much (having too much fun with the new guys), but yeah, his ultra II is baller. Having a good way to deal with fireballs from full screen is fantastic. Didn’t try the jump MP combo into it, didn’t even think it would work, lol. I think his dash speed has been reduced though, he seems slightly slower, but his teleport seems to recover faster and his focus swings faster. Wish I had more time with it to figure stuff out, so take all this with a grain of salt, fellas.
focus attacks to reach level 2 have become significantly faster. you don’t have to hold focus as long to reach level 2.
seth has been toned down. his neutral fierce comes down at a weirder angle and priorities have become a lil worse. his dive kick is slower and easier to see, not as fast as vanilla.
ryu is top 3 in the game no doubt. the more i play with ryu, the more i think he might even be the best in the game right now. he’s not broken though, he’ll have a lot of 5-5’s but no bad matchups. he cannot be safejumped on, and he can safejump almost every character in the game which makes him have lots of advantage on wakeup oki games.
akuma steps down in rank a bit because a lot of characters seem to have answers for demon flip divekick/shenanigans and if you take that away from akuma, he becomes slightly worse than ryu.
dudley is not as good as people think. his DP is not that good. gets BEAT clean by safe jumps. his ex whiffs completely. DP as a groundgame anti air is ok. timing isn’t too strict, it will either trade or win most the time. but if you do it too late, it will lose. seems to have 0 invincibility or priority upon startup. dudley does seem very strong and has strong vitality and decent ways around fireball, but i don’t think he can stop ryu/akuma or at least be a good answer for them.
sagat will be dropped by most players. he cannot change up his style from passive to aggressive that well. if anyone sticks with him, he will be strictly a passive type character. meaning he will be strictly keepaway and fireball zoning, with barely any rushdown.
his angry scar move doesn’t freeze time, it only slows it down and it has a few recovery frames on it. i had skoodge do a c.lp, c.mp link on me and i tried to do angry scar in between, it works, but i get hit by c.mp. originally i thought it froze time so i could do angry scar and SEE the c.mp coming at me and then mash DP, but it only slows time down a lot with recovery frames.
boo on blanka’s jump arc being bigger. but other than that, his ultra 2 is amazing and improves blanka a lot. does a lot of damage as an anti air. and grounded version does decent damage as a means to blow throw fireballs, FULL screen.
Yeah it was obvious that Seth’s j.hp has been nerfed. The active frames have been decreased dramatically. The move still has the same hitbox I believe but now I have to do it later in the jump to hit with it. And the dive kick is slower now, which is huge because it used to be a great air-to-air but now it loses when it would win in SF4. Dive kick pressure still seems good though. Still useful for setting up a fake crossup on the opponent’s wakeup. Seth’s SPD damage is up I believe. It felt like more damage. His combos do the same amount of damage as well, compared to other characters’ who got damage nerfs. AA DP is still good and easy to do, Seth does not have to worry about trading with his DP. Seth’s Sonic Boom has been buffed. cr.mk xx sonic boom combos from far away similar to Ryu’s cr.mk xx hadouken. This means that Seth can now easily hit-confirm FADC combos into knockdowns. Seth also has literally like 20 setups into ultra.
I couldn’t get Seth’s hp dp FADC ultra to work because the opponent is directly above you after you dash which messes up your inputs. It didn’t help that I think they took out some shortcuts for ultra and the motion is double qcb. Now that I’ve thought about it maybe I have enough time to let them fall a bit and then ultra.
Dudley seems similar to Rufus in that if he get in he gets his ultra for almost free. From the really short hour I got and videos I’ve seen, Dudley’s mixups are looking to be some of the best in the game with the highest damage off of a low or even an overhead. Only thing he’s missing is a highly invincible move like EX Messiah. His EX DP is invincible through startup but not ridiculous like Akuma’s or Seth’s EX DP. Dudley does not get zoned easily by fireballs due to ducking. He does get zoned a lot in footsies, same as in 3s, but he has pokes that do good damage, good counterpokes, and a good walk speed, so it’s nowhere near as bad as Rufus or Abel trying to walk in on someone.
This is all first day impressions so take it all with a grain of salt.
Edit: Thanks a lot Koga for bringing the game. It was a lot of fun. Very glad I came.
DA SECRET LABORATORY!!!..:wow: you had my blessing right dare, frapy… and… I don’t get why dat kevin dude likes to jump into the corner with ken by himself… he must be the opposite of me…lol
Yeah blanka feels mostly the same, i think all jumps just feel different.
Abel is hella fun, still does mad damage and big stun. His U2 is insane fast, can punish almost any wiff from near full screen.
Seth is different, remains to be seen if he was nerfed or buffed IMO.
Dudley- lol wait a few days before u say he no good, not like we played 3s or anything. Hes not fantastic, but his combos are still amazing and his mixups are good. Cross counter into ultra is pretty grimy.
I like the feel of boxer in this game as well. His combos all seem waaaaaay easier, slp to sweep clp to cmp etc.
Raeli- u already know i nominate my comeback vs shekeib from ar2
i’m not saying dudley is bad. i’m just saying he’s not as good as justin wong thinks. he won’t be #1 in the game. i promise. his wakeup options are TOO bad. but i’m sure dudley has good mixups and combos to make up for it. but if anything, that would equalize how bad his wakeup game is.
those are my notes from playing super hope they helped out.
Allen what makes you say people have more options for akuma’s dive kicks/demon flips?
Also i watched Batman: Dark Knight again last night for the first time in a while. I think the tunnel scene where they are escorting Harvey to prison is one of the best scenes in this generation of film.
And has anyone played the Lost Planet 2 demos? The first game was badass and I think this one will be too. co-op demo is cool.
Because Mune was taken, as well as all my other IDs I go by… so I added the honorary for the giggles. Not really a conceited individual (or am I?) so “sama” it was!
sorry, if i was going for looks, i’d go for k-dramas. j-dramas have better production value and usually better stories though. glad to see another gay guy in stl. i was wondering if you’d wanna get together sometime and talk about our favorite dramas? sorry if i’m being too straight-forward.
gnarr - after a throw, dash x2, demon flip dive kick doesn’t work on most the cast anymore. they either toned something down about it or some of the newer characters seems to be able to just beat it for some reason. i’m gonna go with they toned it down somehow. maybe it’s slightly slower or something? i dunno but i couldn’t get it to work. maybe my timing is just fucked up.
thanks skoodge for letting me play super for like 12+ hours straight, LOL…we learned a lot!! i feel like the biggest dork in the world for playing a game that long. haven’t done that since the hookup at jeff’s a while back.
but onto some more thoughts about super( fyi, these are just personal opinions )
this seems to be a very balanced game.
hakan WILL have bad matchups. any character that can zone him out. most his moves are punishable. he’ll be bad against characters like sagat and chun-li.
ryu is most likely still going to be my main…why? i feel like he’s the best character in this game. safejumping is sooo much better in this game that it was in vanilla. i’ll explain more about this in person if people ask me.
i like the fact that this game promotes offensiveness, it fits my style completely.
both boxers will be A class in this game.
viper is within A class as well.
dictator players get a nice new ultra, it will become the favored ultra. i’m gonna put him up in A class for now
blanka players got new ultra 2 which will be the favored ultra in this game. but he’s prollly within B class or something
i feel that the vanilla characters are better than the newer characters based of POTENTIAL, and this is not with extensive testing with the new cast so i could be wrong, but just from what i’ve seen and tested and “theory” fightered.
sagat is either low A or high B, can’t decide. he’s not as “scary”. but imo, i don’t think ANYONE in ssf4 is scary, they did a good job of balancing the game that i just don’t feel anyone is going to be a scary character like…“omg, he does soo much damage, can’t make a mistake” type thing. i see more solid and consistent gameplay dominating this game instead of dp --> FADC ULTRA, win.
