Hype! One of the guys labeled “Dante” by Kotaku looks a lot more like Gene from God Hand to me. Dante doesn’t have a mullet and you can’t see his sword in that outline. Please let him be in this game.
Super- yeah I didn’t notice the focus charging up faster, but I think the time between when you release and it hits is faster (for certain characters, at least). Characters with low health also seemed to benefit in this game because you can’t kill them in 2 combos anymore…Ultras aren’t the ultimate win button either.
so ryu definitely got toned down. his fp DP either trades or loses to jumpins. stupid. his mp DP is a lil better, gotta do it late, but still trades against jumpins if done at bad timing. and trades are horrible, cannot follow up with ex fireball unless it’s in the corner. his U2 is hard to connect. his combos still do good damage and his pokes are still good.
viper still feels good.
honda still looks good. and you CANNOT jump his ochio ultra after the flash. whoever said that lied. we tested it. that ultra is gonna be SICK. hhs xx FADC xx ultra!!! or mixups, more things to be afraid of against honda.
guy felt a lil weird. i dunno how good he will be depending on how good a guy player is…
Makoto is shaping up to be about the same mixup train she was from 3S. You can’t land a miracle 100% stun anymore, but all of her old tricks still seem to work, with plenty of new ones. No idea why people are saying she’s totally different from her 3S form. People just don’t know how to play her. Herp derp dash into karakusa erreday.
ryu is actually still REALLY good in this game. his mp dragon punch almost NEVER trades as an anti air. ryu still remains top 5 imo. i was using his shinsho. it CAN be used as anti air. timing is not too strict. needs to be done a little early but not too much.
blanka seems to be toned down a bit. his crossup doesn’t seem as good? but i think maybe i was playing against small characters like juri and ibuki and crossup distance seemed to be changed a bit…
chun-li’s backdash doesn’t go as far. it still goes the furthest in the game, but i think they toned down the distance a bit. it’s not rediculous. chun-li’s ultra 2 is really good. can be used as anti air, but must be done EARLY. otherwise she has SOOO much recovery on it
akuma’s demon flip grab has lots of lag. for example, if you jump it, you can punish it now cause right when he lands, he likes kneels and recovers from it. so you can hit him with a combo. after s.rh, it’s harder to hit p.link c.mk for me. i dunno why, in vanilla, i can hit it like 90% of the time, now it’s only like 30%.
i haven’t been doing much testing with the new characters. just trying to find balance changes within the old characters.
blanka’s new ultra is sooo fucking good. his ultra 2 works as anti air AND works to go through fireballs from FULL SCREEN. the anti air version does hella more damage and it covers everything above him. i think ultra 2 is gonna come out as the dominant ultra with blanka.
but blanka’s jump has slightly more arc now. it’s still kinda short, but blanka players will be able to notice the difference. you can just abuse crossup after crossup. and i feel that auto correction against it will be easier.
Not to be a dick, but I’m sure that I jumped out of the Oicho ultra more than once. Maybe it has like 4 frames of startup, and only characters with a 3 frame jump can get out? I played a lot of Guy last night. Maybe I’m full of it, I was strung out by the time I was done, lol.
viper is weird. she stayed BASICALLY the same. i messed around with her. she’s gonna be as good in this game as she was in vanilla. charge characters will still give her problems.
rufus ultra 2 is REALLY good against fireball characters. for example, once you get ultra, you can’t zone rufus out with fireballs anymore. his ultra 2 blows through it completely even from practically full screen. but once he loses ultra, he can be zoned out again.
ryu remains top 5. akuma also remains top 5. i think ryu has a little more advantage over akuma in this game however.
sagat moves down. he’s outside top 5. his tigerknee no longer gives advantage. so you can’t do like tigerknee, then c.lp to continue pressure. it leaves him like -1 or -2 on block. and this was a major part of his game.
dictator improved a lot. dictator moves up a few spots. his new ultra is hella good. it combos the same way as old ultra. does less damage though. but it’s qcf motion AND no more fireballs. and ambigous crossup from certain distances. and if blocked, you only get limited punishment options and usually can’t go for big damage.
warden, you’re full of it. the thing about ochio ultra is…the range on it SUCKS ASS. you gotta be like point blank range. so what happened was they prolly didn’t do ochio ultra right next to you. honda literally has to be like buttfucking you close to land it.
blanka moves up a few spots due to his new ultra 2. he has more scare options/tactics with his 2nd ultra.
i haven’t tried the new characters too much. i messed around with normals and specials to see priority properties and what they got. but nothing too intricate.
went to his show a few years ago w/ scamp at pops and it was killer… wish i’d known he was putting on shows at mizzou… I prolly woulda made the trip at least once
