Nerrage this is the type of stuff that makes me proud to be apart of SRK and Tech-Talk. Hats off to you and d3v.
if you guys are doing two sticks…
why not make one an american happ stick?
and i may have some spare madcats retro arcade boards if you guys are doing wired…
I guess you can add me in as covering the joystick, as I’ve sent funds across already.
"A fool and his money," they always say.
If there are going to be two or more sticks I would suggest setting up teams early on and then have each team make its own separate work thread. A lead designer on each team to coordinate art and style within the team and to coordinate with other teams so that each custom is truly unique.
Also, if doing multiples why not an 8-button Viewlix with Sanwa, a 6-button Astro with Seimitsu and a Mortal Kombat layout with Happ?
Also, a recent court decision may indicate that fan art can violate trademark (ugh, IP, yes, trademark…) so short of getting official licensing (which might be possible for a one-off for charity) this might have to stay in the abstract design world and not have character art.
And then? No “and then”!
Awesome idea.
Na, its alright. I didn’t want to sound like I was complaining. If anything I wanted to show I was on the same train of though and behind this idea all the way. Again I am glad I am not the one organizing everything which is a relief. I also didn’t want to try to claim credit just to rob someone else of there involvement, it makes me seem like a bigger ass hole than I really am (but I am still an asshole, LOL).
I was thinking Child’s Play because 1. I got a soft spot in my heart for kids and 2. it fits with the theme of what we do here.
Here is the official website to the charity www.childsplaycharity.org
I am also thinking since we are doing a collaborative project, once we feel good about the number of people aboard do everyone here think we should set a deadline where everything has to be done by?
Abstract idea would be preferably the best, no copyright violations, and we do not have to worry if the subject matter appropriate or not. If some artist that really want to do a character come up with an original designed character of their own, not some companies copyright and the subject of the art is with in the sensibilities of a charity that be awesome. I am also would not mind of someone used a character that isn’t copyrighted but a public domain character, like a Folk or mythical figure would work (for this lets stay out of religion, so no Jesus, Buddha or anything of the sort).
Donated! Let me know if I can help out with anything else.
I like this, actually, combining with FreezerB’s post,
Maybe “Team Tech Talk Tech Support?” Maybe a little wordy.
So, sorry about that. Got lost in all the madness. Added you
Yes, I think it has been decided and agreed upon that we will ultimately raffle these off.
There’s a lot of great ideas going on in this thread, and we do have plenty of volunteers! And there can never be enough donors.
This is a good point. If there aren’t any objections, then I’ll have Child’s Play contacted soon and working out the details to organizing us as a more “official” non-profit as possible
Excellent :D. I’m also very proud of the community. It’s not time to start celebrating quite yet, though! Long ways ahead of us, for sure
We already have one stick wanting to be Astro City 6, and another as a Vewlix 8, but spenzalli said he had quite an awesome idea, and seeing that people are interested in an American stick, we may need to include it in the lineup.
Wow, thanks a ton, guys! Didn’t expect to wake up to that! Haha.
MK may be hard to appeal to a large audience, but I suppose it may be worth a shot to see if people are interested.
I already have a good idea of teams, but I need to contact VOLTECH to make sure he’s in on it.
I think official licensing shouldn’t be too much of a problem, actually. Especially if I’m able to get us officially organized as a non-profit.
I like the idea of separate threads to coordinate each stick, that’s a great idea.
The art has a lot of mixed feelings, but I think we’re all generally leading towards abstract.
Sorry about the confusion, man.
I agree. I don’t want to set up ridiculous deadlines, though. I understand that a lot of you guys are also busy on as regular basis, and I don’t want to demand too much out of you. I think giving it a few months would be great.
Well, I think it looks like we will go with Child’s Play. I’ll contact them in due time to get everything squared away.
Still need a name, guys
-
Has anyone contacted Child’s Play about this? Even if it’s just to bounce ideas off of them it might be a good idea if they’re aware that there’s something in the planning stages so that when shit does live they’re able to help co-promote it more effectively.
-
IMO the more sticks the merrier. If people are willing to donate a large variety of sticks then it would probably draw in more interest.
-
Very much agree on the abstract artwork as that just heads off a ton of problems and in most cases it’s not like the final owner wouldn’t be able to swap in other imagery if they find our taste offensive. -_-
-
Why isn’t this thread stickied?
lol and maybe on the side, back, bottom or inside of whatever stick you end up donating to have the names of the people who helped make that stick happen…the modders the funders the part suppliers…
i think that could be cool…
Personally I live something along the lines of Project Premium Stick more because it sells the fact that these are the best sticks you can get (something that we all know but an outsider might not). It nicely encapsulates the goal of this project and not just who is doing it.
It just popped in my head, a play on words you could say:
TT SRK’d stick
Get it? SRK’d stick? S-arcade stick? SRK’d like a verbed SRK? You know what it is, haha. You could probably add some more pre/trailing words like Super Turbo Alpha X II: T3Easy Strike: Double Mod Impact Rhymes with Winning SRK’d edition kind of deal.
Since you want to be clear that these are “Premium” Sticks, how about “Premium Tech” since it’s from Tech talk, and has premium technology inside. They can even be numbered, like “Premium Stick PT11” for the 2011 model (if this is going to be an annual thing.)
Personally, I’d like to incorporate Team Tech Talk as much as possible. We’re already branded ourselves as members as TTT and I think we should continue that with our sticks.
-
I am going to contact them now that it seems that we’re in agreeance as this is our charity of choice.
-
Agreed, but I’ve gotta make sure that we can get skilled teams for each stick.
-
Yeah, an abstract design that really meshes with the cases seems to be what’s up.\
-
I’ll ask Kyle. Didn’t expect this much attention this quickly, but hey! I’m not against it at all
I’ll try to see about this. I do want every single sponsor and modder and contributor recognized, but this may or may not be the way to go. We may have too many on a single stick, and I don’t want it to be flooded with ads and sponsors.
That’s a very good point. I’ll keep that in mind.
I don’t want to tag SRK directly without permission. While I’m sure there’s no reason not to be on board, and I do think the idea is quite crafty, I’m not sure. I don’t want a long name, either. Something short, simple, easy to remember.
That’s a pretty slick idea.
Seems to be what people are taking a liking to.
I’ll let this run around a little longer to get some more opinions, but in the meantime, I’ll contact Child’s Play for getting set up as a non-profit and Kyle for a sticky.
Also, to the third person who donated, (Not EVAWINGZERO or Rampage), I’m assuming because you didn’t leave any details, you wanted to remain anonymous. Thank you for your support.
With respect to a legal name, if this will happen more than once then the charity should persist so this stuff is easier to handle next time. In that case I would suggest: The Team Tech Talk Foundation. Simple and follows the mold for most private charitable organizations.
If this is probably a one-time deal then I would suggest: The Team Tech Talk Foundation 2011. Most of this work will probably be valid for a year if it expires and the 2011 is easy to change if it happens again without restricting use of The Team Tech Talk Foundation for a permanent charity.
The actual project should probably be named the Premium Stick(s) 2011 for permanent, drop the 2011 for one-time-deal. So the official name would be: The Team Tech Talk Foundation: Premium Sticks 2011 or The Team Tech Talk Foundation 2011: Premium Sticks.
Stuckeroo. Best of luck guys!
Personally, I’d love to have seen the LS-55 but since you seem stuck on JLF, go for it man.
Ideas for sticks I’ve been thinking are:
[]Dual panel
[]When using RJ-45 (or another type of wire release), create a compartment which can hold the extra cables neatly and safely (maybe a mini openable box underneath with plastic RJ-45 jacks and hooks for neat keep away? I’ll draw diagrams another day if this idea is liked)
[]Some sort of mechanism so you can easily either fold away the actual stick to reveal more artwork or create a pull over cover (kinda like a convertable) with a handle so it doesn’t get dusty when not in use.
[]On the idea of above, maybe a really easy way of pushing out the joystick so you can change it out for another stick or an easy access interchangable gate (or both).
[]Create little thread adapters for Sanwa OBSF/N switches to be put into Seimitsu buttons (with LED Mods of course).
[]Felt bottom cover (for warm legs)
[]A stick that doubles up as a toaster
[]Has a PSP or 3DS intergrated into the stick so there is a screen just above the panel to play PSP games (practice Blazblue on the go!) or 3DS games (SSFIV on the go!) or if mad enough, get a switch to change between the 2 so you can have both with 1 screen!
Anyway, those are my mad ideas that I’m contributing.
As for Charity I do not mind but once I can get enough money, I’ll see if I can put in a decent amount towards this.
- Not really appealing these days, most people would rather use their own stick in their own laps comfortably
2.hmm maybe but with detachable cords you dont really need cable storage - cool but not realy feasible, at least i dont think so.
- If we do end up using my control panels I will keep the Universal mounting so joysticks can be switched up without problems.
- felt bottom would make cold nights much warmer hahaha
- using the taunt buttons would launch the bread in the air for you to take a bite mid game
- hahaha thats very imaginitive
just my .02
How about the “Team Tech Talk Sticks for Joy Foundation” for a bit of wordplay?
