8 button vewlix and 6 button astro is good, but like my ninja edits say, wide sticks with a start panel like a VLX must be put into consideration

Talk to the builders about that
Oh, no! That’s no good for blklightning21! Haha. If it comes down to it, though, I’ll be sure to help you out a bit for panels when we get some donations
Not wanting to step on d3v’s toes, but if multiple sticks are being made, I’d be down for doing some art of the abstract/arty/non-licensed/chaotic/hybrid variety or something. I’d also be willing to buy a raffle ticket, assuming shipping to the UK is possible.
I think this is a great idea.
You’re right, vewlix 8 is very standard, and also, yeah, the hit box isn’t what I think what we are going for.
At the rate that things are going, you never know if we may need another designer ;). I kinda dig that artwork idea, but gotta see what people think.
What I’m thinking of doesn’t use a steel panel. I still have to build a test stick out of it before I do this design. Lets just say it involves a 10mm plexi and the ability to see all the parts and PCB’s but not the wiring.
I’m gonna get started on building the test beast once school gets out in April. (hopefully that isn’t too long of a wait)
Actually that is perfectly fine with me i like the idea of the wide panels for the start button because for my personal stick(that i have yet to build since i am so busy hahaha) i will have one. Think large DIY, but just try not to make them too long.
Here is an example
16.5" x 7"
Hey cool we were thinking almost the exact same dimensions. I was leaning towards a 16x7 or 16x8.
File it under “we shall see.” Since I figure coordinating for one build is hard enough.
It would be a bit difficult to set up (you would at least have to wait until a charity is picked) but paypal offers discounted rates to non-profits. You do have to be a registered charity and send them confirmation though which is why you would have to wait until a charity is picked and work with them. Info can be found here. The interesting bit is:
P.S. I am too much of a noob to offer services but I definitely plan on biding/buying tickets for the final product.
I just message kyle the other day about, and I had no clue where to begin. So I am actually glad you stepped up Nerrage, It takes the stress off me figuring out how to get this thing organized. I love to participate and contribute any way I can.
My idea was to Child’s Play, although all the charities that are mentioned are good ideas. I was thinking we could call it
TEAM TECH TALK COLLABORATION PROJECT 2011
I wonder if we can talk one of the members here who represents a online store to donate a few parts for the cause, it would be a good PR and a tax write off for them.
I like the idea of a few custom sticks. That way we could do a triple wireless and wired version, a RGB LED controller version, a FGWidget LED controller, etc. Even a happ project (which I’d be glad to supervise and have a really good idea for…)
Oh, I’m sorry, you were the one who thought of Child’s Play? I’m so sorry, if this is the case, let me know to make sure I give you the credit for that. My apologies.
Having a parts sponsor would be nice. We’ve had a few wanting to sponsor parts personally, but getting a supplier would be pretty awesome, too.
Looking at this and the other post, it may be necessary to go through all of the hoops to set up a charity checking account. =/. Considering the relatively small cost in parts (Maybe $500 tops a stick? And when people donate money, PCBs, parts, and service, when you split the bill across all those interested, it really isn’t that terribly much of a burden to just “donate it under the table”)
I don’t know, but that means right here and now we’re going to need two things:
1)Official organization name
2)A decision on the charity to which we are donating
Oh, man. That’s really freaking harsh. I mean, setting up a checking for this and having to get a legitimate non-profit seal of approval from the IRS? Damn. Seems like a method for something way the hell more permanent than what I’m aiming for. If all else fails, I’ll go to it, because it would be super nice
Damn the legal aspects. Damn them all. We aren’t planning on using this for a tax break. We do it because we love it and are genuinely good-hearted people. Not one person has mentioned anything Aw, well. Maybe I’ll have to eventually turn around and set up an actual account for this project, if actually needed. It hopefully isn’t too insanely hard.
Yes, and really, seeing everyone wanting to contribute means you can’t just wrap it all into one stick.
I think we definitely need to pair wireless with RGB LEDs to help ensure that there won’t be any possible USB current problems, though. Thoughts, Opinions?
I would really like to see a Happ stick, and I’m sure you’ve got something up your sleeve, I know your love for the American sticks, but I’m a little iffy on it, because it’s just something people don’t want. However, again, if enough people are willing to put forth effort for the Happ stick, and you can make it as epic as I know you can, we can definitely consider it.
That is the reason I think it is important we pick a charity early on. Any large enough charity will have a contact that can either set it up for you or help you considerably. They will at the very least be able to give you advice on the best way of going about it.
Yes. Updated the second post, I think we’re in agreeance of donating to Child’s Play, but I want to know if there are any other charities that may be possibly better suited or more appropriate to this cause.
Well, since I can’t contribute much else… how about shooing a name idea… “Technical Assistance”… since this is tech talk, and by donating proceeds, you’d be assisting a group of people. Eh, a shot in the dark, but I want to contribute somehow. I’ll be sure to buy plenty of raffle tickets also
Im sad im not on the volunteer list
I like the idea of a raffle more than an auction. I know right now that I would not be able to afford what it could get to at an auction, but I’d be more than willing to put out $50-$75 for a chance at it and just knowing that the money is going towards a good cause.
I’d love to help but at this point, I think it’s case of too many chefs in the kitchen. If I’m wrong, please tell me.
As for the organization name, I think anything that incorporates Team Tech Talk would be awesome. TTT? T3? Tcubed?
I’m in for Child’s Play as well, even though I’m a bit of a fan of the EFF.
As much as I love the EFF, its not quite something that draws in recognition as Childs Play. People know what Childs Play does, they’re familiar with the cause, and they probably feel like they’re having more of an impact because they know what their funds are going towards.
Not to knock on anyone, but it’s hard to imagine anyone who’s been around gaming in the last five years doesn’t know about Childs play.
Err, was there a specific criteria we were supposed to meet for a charity?
