Hey I was wondering, its a slight departure from what we got going on now, but I was thinking I could refurbish and customize a older game console like a SNES or Dreamcast, what system I end up getting and working depends what I can find at a reasonable price and if repair is possible. I usually hit up eBay, Thrift stores and Creg’s List. I am thinking Repair a old and busted down console, get it working and get some thing done like a nice paint job and maybe some other mods to spice up a older system?
Thanks a ton, Kyle!
Gotta go with blklightning21 for most of this.
- Too much material cost, and it’s pretty low demand for 2P sticks.
- That’d be nice, but I don’t want to ask too much of the builders for this one. They’re used to working on a case a certain way, and I want the best of them, not to try to make everything crazy.
- Really awesome, but that’s hard to imagine
- Yes, universal mounting will be kept to make for easy swapping. I want to use the JLF for this project because it is really a flagship stick, and is considered the “standard” for high quality in the fighting community, but someone will be able to happily swap it for themselves if we keep it that way.
- Maybe? That’s not something really done a lot. Haha.
- I think that’d definitely override USB current limits, haha.
- Wow O_o;
That’d be pretty awesome. If you do it, I’ll be sure to include it as a prize in the raffle with the sticks.
I like that name a TON, d3v. I wanna see what everyone else thinks, but that really struck a nice chord for me. “Sticks for Joy” for short, I think.
Contacted Child’s Play, haven’t gotten a reply, but I think it has been decided that this will be the go-to organization for us.
We should clearly lamp off a lamp 360.
Yours.
Update on my end. I found a poor little NES that needs some repairs, some love and care and a good home. I already order repair parts for the little guy and I have selected some vinyl dye colors. I am thinking Blue and Red and I going to color a controller to match.
Looks like this is picking up steam. Who’s in for a happ stick then? If it doesn’t go over, I’m still in for a donation of time, money, parts or whatever.
The reason I suggest so bland a name is so that if we want to use this for other things it doesn’t sound weird. “Why is the Sticks for Joy Foundation doing a group Habitat for Humanity effort?”
I’m willing to put maximum effort into assembly (including soldering) but I am not as skilled as some of the members here and I don’t have a portfolio of work. I do, however, have the right tools for the job.
I’m down to help out in anyway possible either it be $$ dontation, parts, or services. Hell I’m even down to donating my Lamp360 as one of the raffle prizes.
I guess it can’t have everything then :wasted:
Well I’ll contribute some more cash and ideas sometime in the future. Oh and when I said easy swapping, I meant that you didn’t need a screwdriver kind of easy swapping so it is really easy.
But one day I’ll make a PSP/3DS stick which is a toaster…
I’ll contribute more ideas (mad and legit) some time this weekend.
Cool! I can’t wait to see what you do to her
Agreed. Happ stick is cool with me if we can get a case builder on board for it. I think we have plenty of people who will wire it up nicely. I’ll PM you about hammering out the finer details
I understand. I don’t think we’re going to be doing much outside of this, though, in all honesty. Sticks for Joy just has a really good ring to it, it conveys what we’re doing, and it has a nice play on words.
I appreciate your offer, but we already have a lot of skilled modders offering services for wiring. Don’t sweat it, I’m having to turn down a lot of people.
Whoa! Thanks a lot gummowned. I’m sure we’ll definitely have use for a full Leo kit, because I’m almost sure we’ll want to have a double/triple wireless. I’ll keep you in mind for wiring services, but I’d really like if I could possibly get us the raffle at a major tourney. This is where I could use modders like yourself, whom I know attend a lot of the majors.
Here’s what I was thinking:
Two raffles: One to everybody, one tourney-exclusive. Tickets cost the same price, and everyone who gets tickets online gets their name, shipping info, paypal adress, contact number, etc. on the ticket. If, however, you come to the tourney, you can buy a ticket that will be like “Local Ticket: 238018” Then, you get your ticket in the big everybody drawing (That will have the sticks), plus, you get an additional tourney-exclusive ticket. You must be present to win the local ticket drawing. (This also eliminates the need for contestants to write their names, so we don’t have to struggle through reading any handwriting). The tourney-exclusive raffle will be for mods done on the spot. I was thinking if a couple modders that would be at the major could donate a couple dual mods for the local prize pool, it’d be a nice touch. Maybe Lamp360 could fall in this category, so we don’t have to worry about it in shipping.
Anyways, I appreciate the community effort, guys! This wouldn’t be possible without all of you!
i am in this also
now i cant offer my services since im too far but i can donate a meshball or buttons if needed or i can give out some $$ through paypal…
also have you guys considered an international charity org?
Sorry about this one, man. Haha.
The stick swapping sounds nice, but I dunno how we’ll get this to be so easy. Snapping it in would be difficult, and I dunno how secure it’ll be.
For the most part, we’ve chosen Child’s Play as our charity, as it seems to be the most appropriate organization, and they are international, serving over 70 hospitals in multiple countries.
I appreciate your donations. We may have a use for those items, but even a few dollars helps to cover everything, and if there is any overflow of donations, I intend to stack that with the raffle revenue, and donate it all to Child’s Play. But parts (if needed) are never turned down
PM’d back!
i’m happy to donate my skills if you have use for them.
Can we also make the stick a functioning lamp as well?
There could be a light bulb socket in the corner of the case on top and a AC jack on the side (thinking like the same as what a PS3 uses). That way during tournaments or playing games you can have the bulb taken out and the ac cord detatched. When at home you can show off the stick with the bulb in and plugged into an outlet.
PLEASE!!
Incandescent seems like a poor choice for that. LED or Flourescent could plausibly run on batteries as well. LED’s also allow for more attractive or varied lighting effects.
As the person who originally came up with this idea, I hereby declare that the only way we’ll be raffling off a Lamp 360, is if it’s Majinhurricane’s 360 that he lamps himself.
:clown:
Hey dev I will be sending you an art template for the Vewlix 8 button panel with a start button a little later tonight. If you guys can let me know if we are also going to be doing a 6 button astro that would be great. It sounds like you guys want to do a Happ stick as well, I will do my best to see about also donating a panel for a happ stick.
Are we decided on Vewlix? I thought folks wanted Sega.
