STHD - Music Discussion

Some of the tracks are cool, but some are whack. Like Gief’s. Select screen music is wonky too… reminds me of a desk combo video lol.

I’ve since changed it back to classic… But I’ll probably switch back.

What about ending musics and stuff? Did they remix EVERYTHING? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah man, they remixed EVERYTHING.

You can download it all from here.

I recommend unchecking (de-selecting) all non-MP3 files when downloading the torrent; it’ll finish wayyyy more quickly.
(No credit to me for finding this, lots of other people have already posted this link in other threads on here, and OCR actually sent out an email to all registered members about it.)

They should’ve remixed the menu theme from classic SF2. Which I think is also the theme for the char select in old ST.

Of course, I like the menu theme, but I was just wondering why they picked Ken’s.

Zangiefs is awesome, it sounds the The Advantage. It isn’t synth at all, it is just a type of distortion that is more clean and I personally prefer it for it isn’t very common.

All the songs are great imo, it’s probably what makes this game feel more modern now even with the poor animation quality!

I wish they had gotten more creative. The tracks are pretty cookie cutter;
“I’m going to take the old melody, change the instrument, add a silly beat that came with my fruity-loops.”

As a producer of video game music, I’m kinda pissed about who got to do the music because its uninspired.

I had thought to say this, but I felt it was probably pointless. I guess, at least to me, I’d imagine it would go down poorly if the music went too far from the source material. So, on this point, I’m torn.

I do have some gripes with Vegas and Balrogs.

Vega’s theme just throws me off, the one thing I remembered the most about his theme was it’s really upbeat fast tempo. It represented Vega really well. Then hearing this slow version is really opposite of his style.

Rog’s seems a bit too mellow for a Vegas theme. But as a song itself, I like it.

Strange that most of the songs ended up being trip hop. Only ones that really stood out to me were Cammy’s and Boxer’s, and even those aren’t particularly suitable for fighting.

yeah they should have keep the original “spitting nar” just without lyrics…the same pace and beat instead of speeding it up and putting extra sounds in it…

the new music imo sucks shit. none of it fits except for maybe ken’s theme. however, i think ken’s theme has a very low pitch to it.

thank god for cps2 music option

edit: sorry for being too harsh. i think the new character select and vs music is tight though.

Ars Technica did an interview with the OCRemix guys who worked on the soundtrack.

Hell yes. I agree.

I will admit I was one of those people that really didnt like the music from the SFClub and other footage but once I heard it for myself I think they did a terrific job, I still hate Zangief’s music though :arazz:

Deadfrog posted the link but its worth mentioning again you can download the whole soundtrack (end music and all) on OCRemix

The game uses an old version of Vega’s BGM, but you can hear the final version if you download the album.

Same…Sexy Trunks IMO fits much better with the Vegas nightlife happy background. Mecernary Boxing is too hardcore Matrixish and would seem a bit out of place. Not that it isn’t a good song.

Gief track is boss for me. That guitar during the end of the song is so good and the military drum beat thing in the beginning really works for the stage. Guile’s track is pretty good and always sounds the best on guitar. I still like the CPS1/2 Guile tracks the best. Cammy’s track is nice too. Got that hip 3rd Strike feel to it. I think my overall faves are Gief’s, Cammy’s, Fei’s, Claw’s Boxer’s and Dictator’s. They’re all pretty good IMO and I could easily listen to the whole soundtrack in my car.

I don’t mind most of the tracks, though like everyone else I do find the Gief remix kind of appalling. I really hope they release DLC in the forms of alternate soundtracks and maybe the classic backgrounds.

PC Soundtrack>>>>any other SF2-era soundtrack though

I guess I’m the only person who’s loving Gief’s theme. Now that I think of it…Sagat’s theme I like a good bit as well. I used to listen to that track back 4 years ago when I first found OCRemix all the time. It’s got a nice futuristic beat to it but has enough of the original song to make it sound familiar.

Those stages songs always cut out on the 360 version online so I guess that’s a good thing. I’m not particularly crazy about either theme myself even if I think they both work.

Most of the misic sucks to be honest. Only tracks I like are Ryu, Vega and Dee Jay… I mean, what’s up with Zangief’s music? It’s not Guilty Gear that’s for sure…

I don’t think Gief’s theme was trying to be Guilty Gear. It’s obviously an OCRemix track where it’s designed to be different but still have a game like sound to it. Like people have said…the instruments in it at times sound almost Nintendo like. Which I kinda like and has like an old Metal Gear or Mercenaries theme to it. Back when a lot of video games were based on army forces. The fact that it sounds so “off” is probably what I like most about it. You can still tell it’s Zangief’s theme but it really made me go “hmmm…this is different for Zangief”. I think it has just the right elements to work for Zangief. Militia like intro, game guitar finish…I like it. I’m probably the only one…but yeah.

Does anybody like claw vega’s music?

Because I know that I sure don’t.

Without cranking the volume up quite a bit, it actually sounds muffled. And while the appropriateness of the scratching is debatable, I don’t think it’s a good sign when the “intense” version that plays when you’re low on life is less intense than the original one was in the normal state.

It’s ok to deviate a bit or even a lot from the original, but for in-game fighting-game music it seems like bad form to fail to capture the energy of the original.

Gief’s is probably the weakest one for me as well. It just sounds kinda awkward. I think Dictator comes out on top music-wise. Just goddamn EPIC. Guile’s and Fei’s area amazing as well.

Well I think the 3D0 or Hyper SF2 Remix version of Vega’s song did the same thing. It slowed down the pace of the music and gave it more of an orchestral theme. I think it kinda fits that European high maintenance class that Vega seems to have about him…but yeah. It doesn’t really fit the fast pacedness that is Vega flying around on his stage. I like the song so I can just deal with it.
