STHD - Music Discussion

I’m suprised that there isn’t really any music thread outside of the gen disc thread. So what is everyone’s verdict on the music?

Me personally, i ended up liking more tracks than i originally thought i would. I remember hearing most tracks before the game was out, and also listening to the BOTA album, just thinking about while the music, per se, for the most part, was good, it just wouldn’t work in the game. Of course they were tweaking the sounds from BOTA to fit the original themes better without straying too far from the original theme’s melodies.

I’m actually suprised how much I like some of the new tracks. these are my favs:

cammy theme: I personally think cammy’s theme is phenomonal, IMO. It really does the theme justice. And seems to fit the mood of the background really well. Easily my favorite track, and one of my fav backgrounds as well, double win.

Fei long theme: definitely my 2nd fav. this track stood out like crazy in the BOTA album as well. And from what i see, most people seem to like this version a lot. And I can see why.

Ryu: as sick as I am from hearing it from countless beta games. I do think the track sounds pretty good. even if it takes too long to get to the main melody.

honda: I originally didn’t like this track. Then I started to listen to it by itself. And started to appreciate this track a lot. It has a lot of little nuances that really make me like this track, i can’t really put into words. Definitely turned into one of my fav tracks.

chun: love it. stays with the source extremely well. very upbeat tempo and works so well with the game. sounds used just make the song work so well.

sagat: this track reminds me of the PC version, A LOT, for some reason. Just sounds really good to my ear.

akuma: love this version, unfortunately, we can only appreciate it it in 1p mode, vs cpu akuma only. major letdown =(

tracks i cant get into:

claw theme: I cant get into this track. I dont think it’s a bad song by anymeans, but i feel it strays way too far from the source material, which is what bothers me. the speed up version really makes me sad as it would been better if the turntable scratching sounds were removed, or revised.

boxer: its too mellow for such a loud background. once again, not a bad song on its own, at all. but it seems so out of place here.

zangief: i really dont like this song at all. in the game, or out of the game. i really dont like the guitar sound, AT ALL. it sounds a little too “synth” for me. It drives me nuts =(

my music tier

1.cammy
2.fei
3.chun
4.honda
5.akuma
6.ryu
7.sagat
8.ken
9.guile
10.blanka
11.bison
12. t hawk
13.deejay
14.sim
15.boxer
16.claw
17.gief

15-17 are really the only songs i really dont like, at all, in the game. not too bad of an ost

Im kinda the opposite.

I friggin love Boxer’s track. It just fits so well to the whole vegas jive thing going on. Definitely awesome on booming speakers too hehe.

Main theme rapes everything for free.

It’s actually a remix of Ken’s theme.

They should of used that song for Ken’s stage dammit…

Really.

I disagree. Having it as the menu theme means we can hear it when we can hear it no matter what, even with classic songs turned on.

That song = Top Tier.

The new music isn’t bad at all, but it doesn’t make me feel like fighting (really, the CPS2 music shouldn’t either, but the nostalgia factor does the trick for me). The main reason I turned it off, though: The character select music is hyper-ugh for me.

I agree. Plus the old character select music rules. I love that shit.

I’m a huuuuge music junkie and I really, really like the soundtrack.

As with pretty well everything else to do with this game, even though I had a lot of minor niggles and dislikes during the course its development, the moment I actually got my hands on SFHD all my dissappointments and complaints evaporated completely and were long-forgotten.

Little shit like cut-offs instead of fade-outs at round ends, not switching up from the ST algorithm to the (superior) HSF2AE one for changing to a song’s faster version, and a few of my favourite SF2 tracks from OCR that were left behind… it all just seems so silly now. The game is finally here and it sounds amazing exactly as it is.

(edit days later, whoops wow i didn’t mean to click edit here hahah)

I hate that character select music, sounds jittery and too fast to me. My favorite is Spain, and Hong Kong a close second. I guess I’m not too fond of Jamaica or Mexico, but overall the music is incredible and I think they did an amazing job.

The whole soundtrack is great, but I love Balrog’s theme. About time someone put sax in a Balrog remix. I also like Cammy’s theme.

I love Guile and Ken’s…hate Cammy and Vega’s, the rest are fine. The music from the credits bring back old memories =’)

Almost every track is vary laid back elevator music but it actually does the original themes justice and I like all of them except geifs the guitar sounds like a broken nintendo game.

Bison’s theme is the best because it’s fast paced and just goes a lot better with the fighting imo.

I’m liking Bisons (dictators) theme, T. Hawks theme, Balrogs (boxer) theme and Cammys theme the most. Otherwise I think the soundtrack is…decent. I reaaaaallllyyyy wish they included the original SF2 music as an options. IMHO the old school themes are the best out of all of them. I hate the remixes they did for the Super Street Fighter series.

I like all the new ones except Ryu, Cammy, Boxer, and Claw.

go to settings, then audio, pick classic…and ta-da!

wheres Dhalsim?:shake: edit: oh wait there he is -_-’

Il have to disagree gief boxer and claw are up there for me

Nah…Classic is the music from the Super Street Fighter series. The original SF2 music was different.

Here’s an example:

Ken’s original theme from SF2:

Ken’s remixed theme from the Super SF2 series:

I see what you mean now. Sorry!

I have to thoroughly agree on this.

Cammy’s theme is just amazing. I don’t like Cammy herself, but I just love her theme, lmao.

Regardless of the remixes, i just wanna say I love Yoko Shimomura’s compositions. :open_mouth: I wonder if she had any idea how timeless these songs would become so many years later. It’s always nice to hear new takes on them, even if I don’t care for them.

Though I am part of the consensus that agrees that the main menu song should’ve been Ken’s stage song in game.
