Starcraft II!

A petition to blizzard:
No Fastest or BGH maps allowed, keep that shit out!! Since WarIII didn’t have that, it seems a lot of people moved onto UMS, also dota.

I’ll admit I play those maps everyone once and a while, but I wonder what they intend to do with those kinds of maps.

you know those maps are hacked? So it depends if they can keep the hacks out.

Hmmm, this reminds me of a question I’ve always had. I never picked up on SC when it was first released(bought the Battle Chest about 2-3 years back(I think, might be longer), and I never got what did it do, back in 1998, that made it so popular to begin with. I’m not saying it’s a bad game at all(it’s fantastic), but what did it do back then that hadn’t been done before?

Anyways, been trying to play again and my Protoss skills are gone now, WTF. Time to get back in shape. Any of you SRK players want to school me in the arts of SC?

I’m not that big a fan of regular WC3, but I do love the DotA

goddamn, when are they gonna update the site??

What exactly are those maps? I’m a bit out of the loop. :looney:

BGH is “Big Game Hunters” where it’s just one huge main base with one main land entrance so from a defense standpoint, only need to plug up one hole to protect against land attacks. The main base is set up so you have pretty much infinite resources: a huge cache of minerals that’ll pretty much never run dry, and iirc TWO nearby vespine gas mines that’ll pretty much never run dry either, so you never have to expand and leave your base and just concentrate on build build build. Heh if you do decide to expand if you really wanted a lotta gas, the next natural expansion is very close and has the SAME entrance to your main base heh.

It was also an official map by Blizzard as well!

lol, I think i’m about the only person to own WC3 since it’s release in 2003 to never have been in a DoTA game. I have talked about it on forums, asked questions on how to play it, but i’ve never actually been in a game. I stayed in the game for about 5 minutes and i’m just like…“where’s the micro?”…
Blizzard listens to their customers, so if anything is imbalanced, i’m sure it will get fixed right away, so i’m not worried at all.

i dont even know wtf is DOTA and i used to play war3 alot. I only played ladder games.

With the system they have for finding games on WC3 those fast money maps shouldnt be a problem. In SC they showed ALL games even UMS games on one bar.

im sure blizzard will do everything they can to keep this balanced

I was one of the guys who waited outside the Best Buy before it opened to get WC3, but I’ve never played DoTA and have no intention to do so. I finally saw my friend play it a couple weeks ago and it looked pretty retarded.

I’d rather they bring BGH back…me and my friends had alot of fun on BGH maps.

Played dota once…Much prefer the reg old game.

At first I hated it and couldn’t believe anyone played it. Then, my freshman year friends got me into it and it became the social thing to do. We played in the evenings, after dinner, and before bed- everyday. It was just fun I guess, and I liked it.

The game was good. Nowadays, if a game is decent, your going to get 3-4 sequels. SC has never had a sequel, so this explains the fan fair. Bad analogy, but you know… Also, it’s a great speed game of rock, paper, scissors…

To be quite honest with you all, i’m playing SC Broodwar on a dl’ed copy from the net. I lossed my original account years ago and have no intent to play this game on the net, due to the serious ass kicking i’ll get. If you guys want, we can all play on a HAMACHI server. This type of server emulates LAN, and we’ll be able to play like that. I can set something up later and we can play Money Maps versus computer or 1v1/2v2 versus each other. I’d rather we play money maps against comp first since i’m sure most of us are rusty…

Also, if anyone is interested we can do the same thing for WC3 Frozen Throne. I’m a complete noob in this game…

Yeah, man, and one thing I find hilarious is when I go on DoTA forums asking about how to play it, people are like “Yeah man, it totally requires skills.”…like wtf, man, my 9 year old cousin plays DoTA and a lot of people say he’s good, but lol, people who mainly play DoTA and say things like “lol, noob DoTA needs skills” are like, the most noobish Ladder players

Truth, yo, Truth. I just can’t have one unit throughout the whole game and just clicking rapidly for no reason like I see with everyone else when my family still had the internet cafe going. I remember like 10 guys would come in to play DoTA and i’d watch em for like, 3 hours and i’d just wonder why the hell you would play it over and over again.

DOTA is strictly for people who call themselves figger nucker * or cumstainlarry *and act like retards no matter if they win or lose.

DotA is fun! :annoy:

DotA would probably seem scrubby compared to the regular game or SC because you control only one hero; there’s not as much microing. I’m just starting out on RTS games so it’s easy enough to pick up. But there are over 80+ counter matchup to learn and 4x the amount of skills so there’s still plenty to learn. Anyways, enough defending. I never really played the first SC but I am jumping on the hype and will be getting SCII!

war3 regular is great for 1v1.

dota is a fun team game.

haters need to stop :stuck_out_tongue:

Unless you consider the expansion set of broodwar, your right about SC not having a sequel until now.

I do; however, have to disagree with your rock paper scissors statement. This analogy makes it sound like the game is completely about guessing what your opponent is up to. That is incorrect.

This game at its most simplest level is about scouting your opponent. It’s all about finding a way into your opponents base and then realizing what his options are. After that, you configure your game play to counter his.

Anything you do has its PROS and CONS, that’s what makes the game so great; the fact that everything is punishable.

This is the most basic insight of starcraft but the game can get a little more complicated. Especially when you consider micro-management and, macro-management. Great micro will allow you to actually increase the chance of your units surviving a battle and gaining the upper-hand (Slayers Boxer is an example of excellent micro); however, this can interfere with your macro. Excellent macro will allow you to expand your economy and out- resource your opponent thus giving you more options but this requires leaving your units to fend for themselves (lloveOov is a good example of great macro skills). The key here is to find a good balance between your micro and macro. This requires concentration, focus and also experience.

Another thing that sets this game aside and makes it a little more tricky than rock paper scissors are the feints that can be used.

Feints are used to make your opponent think you are doing something and then you exploit his misdirection. An example of this would be to show your terran opponent a building Hydralisk den, but cancel it and build a Spire soon as the terran scout is killed or has left your base. This will allow you to use Mutas against his units which are most likely to consist of tanks because you mislead your opponent into getting anti-lurkers.

This game is not rock paper scissors.
