At high levels both SC and SF can give the same feelings of pressure. The main difference is the amount of time that pressure is maintained. In SC a typical match can last 30 minutes while in SF a typical match can last 2 minutes. Like forgenjuro said SF is like a typical boxing match where you have 10 rounds, 3 minutes per round, and a 1 minute break in between rounds. SC is like boxing 10 rounds straight with no breaks. Even though you spend the same amount of time boxing in both examples, the later is much more taxing both mentally and physically. Ultimately I’ve grown bored with SC because the matches last to long to hold my attention all the way through. It just feels more like work than a game.
i was in sc2 beta and i couldnt handle anything higher than 2v2 set on low.
SC2 is a stressful game, no matter what level you play when your facing actual people. The one thing I hate about SC2 is how quickly you have to do things, and you can’t really relax and enjoy it…
Have you ever watched some of PsyStarcraft’s live casts on youtube? The amount of clicking he does is annoying and astounding. Do I have to play like that to be any good? While I seriously am addicted to SC and enjoy playing it, I am happy playing in the bracket that I am placed. Silver/Gold league is fun enough for me.
In general, I would say street fighter is closer to rock / paper / scissors, and Starcraft is closer to chess. The strategies you have to use are way more complex. You also need the ability to multitask, which you don’t really need in street fighter.
SC2 is like playing mvc2…u gotta be fast and alert to be good…i consider my self pretty decent at the game but damn…the multiplayer part of the game is for elitist only…game only been out like 4 months so far…imagine after a year or so!!!
That is a serious oversimplification of the situation. You’re way overestimating the depth of SC and underestimating the depth of SF. It’s rather insulting.
SF is more like chess where everything is out in the open and moves can be calculated given the current position. SC is more like poker where a lot of variables are hidden and unknown.
I would say TvZ is hard as hell. Thx for the practice Natureboy but I couldn’t pull through for my match
This is true, fighting games got nothing on SC:BW. Using a game like SSF4 to discuss fighting game depth is failure in itself because SSF4 is kind of like Smash and not relatively deep at all, you would make a better argument mentioning MvC2 because it requires much better timing and reflexes, closer to SC.
Scouting is what separates scrubs who think they’re pro from players who really are and adds a whole element of depth to the game. Countering scouting is a whole other level of mind games. For example in SC:BW when you see someone scout your base you can temporarily start air upgrades to make your opponent think you’re doing goons. SC is way more complex than fighting games, that’s why you feel so stressed out trying to play it. Multitasking and being pushed to your limit both mentally and physically is very taxing.
Dang… did he end up going going with a fast expo roach build?
They are intense in their own ways I think. You have to read the player more in SF. In SC I can scout certain things to know whats coming. Can’t really do that in SF.
I still feel that people overestimate the depth of SC and underestimate the depth of SF.
True. They are both equal in depth I think. Each one just goes about it differently.
yeah sc2 wears me out i can only play 5-6 games a day on the weekend, because usually one of those games will be a ridiculous intense back and forth for 40 min long.
when i played mvc2, i could lose 30 games in a row to a better player and not mind cause it was over so quick, whereas in sc2, every loss is devastating cause you’ve invested way more time into it.
the worst feeling in the world is feeling like you’re winning a game (killed their army multiple times, destroyed their expo), only to still lose. it’d kinda be like your opponent making a 1 pixel comeback, only stretched out over 20 minutes.
in other news, when i open vs zerg now, since i have no idea how to win anymore, i just resort to cheese. i do the two pylon block, 1 cannon behind by their ramp, and that lets me get an expo before they do and obviously 2 base toss >>>>>> 1 base zerg. its obviously a crutch because sure at my level the zergs dont pat their ramp, but at higher levels they will and then ill have no clue what to do
What does this mean?
While both SF and SC are complicated in their own ways, we are still comparing apples and oranges here. SC you need a friggin keyboard and mouse to play… A KEY BOARD AND MOUSE!!! If you don’t know how to type or use a computer, you are at a significant disadvantage. With SF, all you need is a d-pad/j-stick. And that’s just touching the surface of the whole thing.
But yeah, I want to play SFIV against some of yall. It would be a nice break.

teh awesome
Seriously a former BW player complaining about SC2 being stressful?
WTF SC2 is like easy mode. I still find Brood War challenging…
Words… cannot… express… how…awesome…
ugh…
EDIT: I am setting this to loop play in my office all day…
haha great video. funny that Husky is mainly a Toss player, unless he switched recently and i dont know about it.
production value was pretty wild. hiring all those backdancers and the lambo couldnt have been cheap. unless the dude already owned the lambo.
EDIT: oh he explains where he got it
