Am I the only one who likes watching SC2 a lot more than playing it?
Yeah, actually main difference I’ve noticed is that even decent/good players are real whiny compared to today’s fighting game player
But no way do you have to scout with a starting worker to defend a 6 pool
yea honestly zvz on steppes i just send my 9th drone out, and then don’t build drones 11 and 12 until i see no pool.
Yeah that’s true, you have to scout reasonably early but not off the bat (unless you are on a 4 player map with terrible luck : () so I was exaggerating a bit
Foreigners are tearing up the SC2 qualifiers, Ret, Jinro, Haypro all qualified, Idra, Sen and Huk are 1 game away from qualifying, should be a nice round of 64!

I think cheese is the same in anything. You just give the guy the cheese until he beats it. If he can’t he sucks. Shitty players don’t get to see real game until they are good enough to stop getting cheesed. I’ll wall dive your ass all day long until you learn how to stop me from doing it.
No. I mean, I don’t think so. I really enjoy playing SC2, but I sort of understand my physical limitations and my ability to just keep track of so many things on screen at once, I’m just never going to be anything better than (maybe) a gold level player one day (I got to Silver awhile back but I haven’t played since Fallout New Vegas came out). But I really do enjoy watching high level SC2. Especially with good commentary from other high level players who can break down the nuance of what’s happening, I think its one thing the GSL commentators do exceptionally well, even if they scream like little girls sometimes in their excitement.
I just really enjoy seeing the point / counterpoint dynamic of high level starcraft. Each race has its own answers, can they deploy in time, can they micromanage their units well, there’s so many variables compacted into such a tight game space that watching it is very entertaining.
So I went to bed before all the results were in, and wake up to find out Huk didn’t qualify (went 1-2 in his last game) to a relatively unknown terran : (
Protoss is so getting shit on, seriously they need some help. They’ve had nothing but nerfs every patch since the beginning of beta, and that’s almost quite literally true (I think there was one where they stayed even or got buffed). I think T and Z are relatively evenly matched in power levels, let’s just get P back up there. All it needs is some slight tweaks (lower the damn DT tech path costs or something) or even something to help vs T like Guardian Shield negating EMP
I predict a toss player winning GSL 3!!!
I honestly expect a tosless top 8
Not sure if you guys were interested in this, but a build order program similar to the Evolution Chamber was made for Protoss. Messing around with these always leads to interesting results, curious to see what comes out of it for Toss.
SCBuildOrder - New Build Order Optimizer (Protoss)
@CigarBob - I’m also pretty new to Starcraft, but I’d be down for some matches with you.
My character info is Trane.433
when does GSL 3 start?
in a few days. They’re casting the prelim matches already.
I need tvz help on fighting spirit. Anyone? big match for us tomorrow.
Im trying to decide if i want to dish out the cash for the ram and buy sc2 or buy blacks ops for xbox lol.
I have a macbook pro with only 2 gigs, it can max out at 4gigs, which would cost me $100, then another $60 for sc2.
Otherwise im still enjoying wc3.
have you tried running sc2 on 2gigs? My one stick died last week and I ahd to run sc2 on just 1 2gb stick and it felt fine at 1440x900
yeah mine runs fine with two gigs…don’t listen to the requierments i have a few things that are under the required and mine runs fine
I think I’m bored of SC2 now. I’ve played BW for a long time so I’m surprised that I just can’t keep my interest going in SC2. Every game I play I get bored about 10 minutes in and just quit, even if I’m in an obviously dominating position. I think it’s a great game I just no longer have the attention span to continue playing. A single game just takes so much out of you that it can honestly feel like work or a chore, I know some of you can understand that feeling. It isn’t like I’m growing frustrated with the game since I’m very consistent and have never truly experienced a losing slump. I guess I’m just spoiled by fighting games where a match lasts like 2 minutes as opposed to 30 so I can get more satisfaction in a shorter time.
Anyone else feel the same way?
I’m not getting bored with SC2, but I do feel that playing is sometimes a chore. Every time I play a game, I have to consistently think about macro, micro, scouting, constant worker production, build orders, push timing, etc. And every game I play, or every competitive match I watch, I start to realize there are more things I need to keep in mind and work on.
It becomes less about enjoying the game, and more about doing a mental checklist of things I should be doing while playing. It’s mentally exhausting. And physically too, because you tense up, your shoulders start to ache, and your mouse hand turns into a claw. Or maybe that’s just me.
I might be talking out my ass here but that doesn’t sound much different than playing SF at a high level.
Constantly being aware of spacing. What normals do what in different situations. How will my one decision effect the game as a whole. When I first encountered high level SF play it was exhausting as well. Maintaining that level of play was a chore at first. But after you get the mechanics down you are truly free to explore the depths and creativity of the game.
IMO high level gaming is really a chore to get to the point where all the menial tasks just come natural and you don’t really have to think about them you just do them.
At this point in my SC2 time I have enjoyed it much more than i have playing ST for the past two or three years.
Again I could be wrong as I am drawing from my long history with SF and the experiences I have had learning and growing in that game. It just doesn’t seem much different so far.
I think its different mainly because a game in a fighter finishes WAAYY faster than a SC game. Especially ST a match could end in like 10-20 seconds. While a game of SC even with cheese lasts about 5 min at the least.
Its much more mentally taxing to play for 5+ min. and end up losing then losing at the most 99 seconds.
I like to compare it to boxing. In boxing you have a short rest after every round. Just like in a fighter you have a short rest after each round.
However if your playing SC, you could be boxing for over 10+ rounds continuously without any breaks in between.
Another thing that is a factor is that in a fighter you can always see your opponent and see what he is doing. In SC scouting is a vital part of the strategy and you have to be constantly aware of what your opponent is doing even if you cant see everything he does.
I think these things are the big differences in fighters vs RTS in why RTSs are tougher on the player.
