You’ve got to start by identifying your opponent’s build. If he’s going with a total one base play then you can assume he’s teching hardcore. If you’re on a map like Scrap Station/Desert Oasis where the fly distance is really short this means VRs 90% of the time. Start boosting your econ out the ass, fast expand and keep building drones. Make sure to scout him as best as possible with drones or by sacrificing overlords intentionally or whatever, you have to identify if he’s going colossus/void ray. Once you’ve got the sign that VRs are coming build hydras and a lot of extra queens. Queens take no bonus damage from anything and actually do very well vs. VRs for the amount of minerals they cost. Make sure to use creep turmors around your base so queens can quickly support.
Now, if you use a starting drone to scout and keep it alive to see 2 gas, 1 gate, 1 cyber core, just rush him with speedlings. Seriously. He’s asking to get ling rushed and he deserves to lose to it.
On a fat losing slump after I had a nice winning streak going… my confidence just seems to go up and down like waves. I was dominating diamond level players for a while but have been losing to practically everybody over my last 10 games. God damn it…
As Zerg I like to take one of my early drones (vs. zerg I use one of my initial drones) and hotkey it to 1 and shift+right-click around the opponent’s base, with my base hotkeyed to 4 I can just double-tap 1 or 4 to pay attention to whatever I need to at the time. You want to master scouting while managing your own base at the same time. If you’re scouting Protoss you want to consider…
A) What his vespene situation is looking like. If he’s grabbing vespene really early there’s a reason for that.
B) How early did he get his cybernetics core? The cybernetics core almost represents a bottle neck for protoss tech. Without it the only military unit they can build is the zealot, with it he gains lots of options from gateway and other buildings altogether. If he waited to get 2-3 gate then cyber core while mining gas he clearly intends to use his gas on a strong gateway mixture. If he only has 1 gate then his intentions lie with the stargate/robotics facility. Since the immortals/colossi are extremely expensive and more easily countered than voids, you can see why most people go stargate if they follow this route.
C) What is the estimated amount of minerals/gas you see before you in terms of both buildings and units. This is key. A protoss player with not much in their base is building stuff near YOUR base.
D) Is he chrono boosting upgrades, military, or probes? Usage of chrono boost is fairly indicative of a toss player’s strategy.
and lots of other shit but that’s all I can think of right now. I think scouting is one of the most intense parts of this game to be honest.
Thats my biggest problem. I really need to watch some more videos to see what counters what. I also need to mix up my army and not mass just one or two things. Like i’ll go roaches but have no speedling backup etc.
The single player challenges are a really good way of learning this game. They’re kind of like the SF4 combo trial challenges. They’re setup to teach you micro and are also a good way to learn what counters what.
preferably after 9 pylon if you’re playing vs protoss or terran. after gateway against zerg or terran. or you can scout after 12 gateway for all 3 and have better economy at the cost of information.
Nice to see this thread picking up some team, we’ve been getting some good groups going the past few days (1v1, everyone else spectates, winner stays loser goes to the back of the line). Its good for learning new strategies and practicing and talking with people about what happened. It’s been a lot of fun.
Also yes, there are thousands/hundreds of divisions for each league, each division has 100 players in it, and each league has enough divisions to cover every player in their league. So if 100,000 people are in bronze then theres 10k divisions within it. your division is identified by a cute naming convention of 2 random words paired together (stealth medivac, tough hatchery, etc).
Yeah but I think Zerg have more of a right for anger than anyone else. Just look at the factory for a moment. Hellions completely own zerglings/banelings, Tanks completely own hydras, and Thors completely own Mutas. To add insult to injury all of these units do AoE damage. The hellions fire is AoE, the siege tank siege cannon is AoE, and so are the Thor’s AA missiles. To make matters worse the Terran can just naturally progress to a Starport which he was going to get anyways, sat com you, realize you don’t have aa because you’ve been building teched up roaches/lings against mech, and send some banshees in for serious harassment. The game is so fucking free it’s almost ridiculous.
I’m not even going to address tank dropping on Lost Temple vs. Zerg…
anyone noticing lag that wasn’t in the beta? I thought it was just people with bad connections then I started to lag today. Just stop fucking with bnet 2.0 and bring back 1.0 blizzard!!!
