When I see Day 9 start to stream his videos/gameplay on ladder or any of his own games for that matter, I’ll respect him more. Am I missing something here? Does he stream his videos? What race does he play?
This thread just keeps on dying and dying by the way side…
we should make our own league, and have solo and random pair 2v2.
Did you guys witness that balance argument between IdrA and Day9 on State of the Game? That shit was epic. Say what you will about IdrA but he makes a really compelling argument about what needs to be changed for Zerg.
Man, try playing PvZ sometime (as P). That shit is a complete mind fuck. I def. feel that the matchup is more even than it was.
anyone have links to said game? All i could find is - was that the game?
The reason people like him is because
- he is funny
- he is passionate and has contributed numerous things to the community
- he’s got an upbeat and positive attitude
- he was arguably the best NA zerg player in brood war, a game vastly superior and vastly more difficult than sc2, won multiple WCG qualifiers, and won a WCG pan american tournament
so haters can DIAF
i hate idra because he is a whiny scrub. he’s been crying since brood war, when he laughably claimed terran was the weakest race. and guess what race he played, as incontrol so hilariously pointed out? so i take nothing he says seriously and hope he dies in a car crash. his arguments on the state of the game podcast consisted of basically crying a bunch and then calling players like Naniwa garbage.
so he has zero credibility. if he actually thought zerg were so weak, he’d switch races. after all, he’s the one making a living off it. he made a statement about “deserving to win” which is fucking weak sauce scrub talk. the guy is a joke and as long as he keeps that scrub mentality, he will keep being a failure. god i hate him so much.
day 9 was arguing something completely different, which was basically that players should just be allowed time to figure out the game. its way too early to make any judgement calls.
funny enough, idra whining about how zerg can’t apply any early pressure because zerglings are meelee only and protoss can wall in and what happens? a vastly superior zerg player, nestea, uses two spines to punish a fast expand from anypro.
fuck idra he will NEVER come close to winning a GSL as long as he keeps that god awful shitty attitude of his, and that’s probably why he fled from the GSL so he could get easy wins in NASL against inferior foreigner opponents, because he “deserves” victory. I hope he crashes and burns there as well, and am glad Teamliquid banned him for 90 days for being a shitty human being.
end rant.
edit: best anti idra rant ever:

yeah but the game is so good you should just shell out the few bucks to get a gom tv pass to watch it. nestea best zerg ever
Day9 keeps his laddering account secret, but he doesn’t actually play much I don’t think between spending most of his time Graduating, and the rest of his time doing the Daily. However since he’s graduating this week, he said he can spend 100% of his time playing SC2, and I think you’ll see him starting to play more in tournaments and the like.
Either way, Idra is a weird paradox with having a lot of skill, but a scrubs mentality, which really holds him back. He plays extremely greedy, where he doesn’t build ANY units until he has to, instead pumping out tons of drones. This is how a lot of zergs play, but it might not be correct because of the limitations he noted, such as building spine crawlers are too slow. He needs to be able to find room into his drone strategy to build spines earlier than known timing pushes, or get some roaches, or something other than trying to build an army/defense at the last possible second like it’s BW.
No, his argument pointed out that Zerg either needs a reliable way to scout or an all-purpose build that will be able to effectively deal with whatever the opponent is throwing at them. Without one of those two things being true (and neither are) the game can become a coin flip, and even if that’s balanced, it’s poor game design.
I have no love for IdrA’s attitude beyond the fact that it’s entertaining. I don’t take him seriously when he says things like ‘Naniwa is trash’ or whatever. Either way, what he is saying IS true. The early game with Zerg can be reminiscent of bad game design, even if it is in some way balanced.
Also, in response to the Terran thing in BW. It’s well regarded by Koreans that Terran requires more APM than any other race in BW to play effectively. That’s why TossGirl switched to T…her APM was really really high. That translates quite heavily into the amount a race requires of you and partially to how strong they are when considered by themselves.
Yeah but you can’t go ad hominem on him and make a good argument. The argument of switching races is also a weak one because frankly if he’s put the thousands of hours into Zerg it’s hard to just pull out and pick something else.
You know, I really enjoy the game chess. Part of enjoying the game chess is to marvel at the games that Fischer played even though he was practically a Neo Nazi. I feel that if you take that much of someone’s personality and apply that to how they play you are really just looking at the game through a sort of foul rose colored glasses. IdrA is an AMAZING player. He has a TON of insight into the game despite the fact that his attitude is that of a 9 year old. These are things that I just try to ignore since what I care about is the state of the game itself, not what IdrA thinks about other people as a whole.
I’ll read the anti-IdrA rant when I get back later. I can’t respond to it now.
There was something on reddit about day-9 saying he was gonna start playing tournaments again, which is pretty cool.
Anyways if anyone wants to get some games in against a diamond terran hit me with a pm. I’ve been playing a bit more lately cause I wanna get into masters, so I could use a few customs.
I’ve never seen Day-9 play ever and patiently wait to see what he has cooked up in the labs. His success in SC2 will hopefully spark a more serious passion from Tasteless. It’s a good thing that he has his priorities straight and graduating from college.
That said, I just watched the “finals” of the GSL and it was completely one sided. The players each are completely in different classes and Nestea was brilliant in the series. Did the new patch hit Korea yet? I dunno, but I am patiently waiting for the next tournament to start.
SIDENOTE:
- I live in the NYC area so I may go to Flushing, NYC to see the TSL 3 finals. Tomorrow is my wedding anniversary so my wife may give me a hard time for going… /-(
- Aaron, I’m going to be in Ace Deuce (Ann Arbor) next weekend and was wondering if there is a cyber cafe where I can play SC2??? Back in my college days I use to play CvS2 at Pete’s all the time.
Yeah, those GSL finals were pretty anticlimactic and depressing. I kind of regret staying up 'til 3 AM to watch it.
GSL was so sad, not one interesting or close game out of the whole series. Nasir and Magnetro came to my house to watch it and it was bleh
Kelly Milkes pictures for FHM are way more exciting than the GSL finals, check em out
About to watch the GSTL, thats always the most exciting thing in SC2
Idra is a good player sure and he gives good analysis when he’s casting, but I can’t take anything he says seriously regarding balance, because he whines constantly and has a defeatist attitude. BW terran required a ton of APM to be good at. idra wasn’t good enough. he whined about how all the other races had it much easier and took less skill to be good at. sounds all too familiar to me. he still has the same mental block in sc2. Only Idra would leave an MLG game because he sees void rays - o wait too bad they are hallucinated. LULZ. i mean seriously, wtf.
If he seriously believed the zerg are as broken as he whines about, then he would change races. his livelihood depends on it. i mean, he himself said that terrible players can win by playing protoss or terran, so logically speaking, since he is the “better” and “more deserving” player, he would be able to maximize his profits by switching to a different race. sure he’d lose a few tournaments in the short term, but then once he figured out the mechanics of T or P he’d be able to go 2 base turtle, and then a-move his way into victory. because its that easy. his words not mine.
day 9 was just saying that the game hasn’t been figured out yet. if you look at the top results, he is right. it is incredibly volatile. GSL champions like MVP get sent down to code A and have to fight their way back up. Champions like MC didn’t even make it out of his group this season. ditto two time semifinalist MKP. Just a few months ago, everyone was whining about protoss being UP, because they had been doing terribly in the GSL. The WISE people said, we just need to wait for a good player to show us how protoss is played. Sure enough, MC, who hadn’t done so well before, suddenly destroyed everybody. Then the forums were filled with “Oh noes protoss is OP”. So I can’t take any balance whining seriously. Let the pros figure it out. Let actual GOOD zerg players figure out how to play the race. Not Idra obviously, who while good, is forever cursed by his shitty mental attitude. But players like Nestea. In the GSL, the top level of competition for starcraft, there’s been 3 zerg, 2 terran, and 2 protoss victories. That’s pretty good distribution.
also jesus christ that was the worst finals ever. apparently all you need to do to beat protoss is build pre-emptive spore crawlers to shut down all 1-base DT and air harass, and then build a bunch of roaches and zerglings and a-move your way to victory.
Inca so badly outclassed. He made so many mistakes in all those games. Not blocking his ramp and letting tons of speedlings in? Warping in zealots instead of DTs in response? Letting all those probes die? Poor guy. I was not expecting it to be so one sided.
Post links of Kelly please /-) Can you imagine all the people dissing her casting efforts all of a sudden willing to see her cast GSL. Awesome.
Yeah, the GSL finals was seriously laughable and I consider the SCfoU/Nestea match to be the finals. Not to say that Inca is a bad player, but he’s in a completely different league than Nestea. The TSL finals was more entertaining but I felt that the last match was a joke because of CHILL GET OUT game lag.
Heres the Kelly pics:

Spoiler
Meh, not my favorite teams and nothing too exciting game wise happened. Wasn’t gumiho the random player who qualified?
I like Inca as a player, and I think he comes up with good tricky tactics and builds that catch his opponents off guard. I really thought he would have at least won one or two games off nestea. But the skill difference is just too great. Its like artosis said, once you are at the top level, how the hell will you find a practice partner? OGS doesn’t have any zerg players anywhere near the level of nestea.
But the most hilarious part about all of this is that if Rain didn’t choke horribly, Inca wouldn’t even be in the finals. Inca was DEAD vs Rain. But Rain decided to gift him all his SCVs and orbital to one DT and one stalker.
and yes SC vs Nestea is the finals, and I think most people feel that way.
