Don’t know if I’d go as far to say it’s better than Empire, but I’m firmly in the camp of those who loved it. I need to see it a few more times, and probably in the context of what comes next. Right now I’d rank the movies like this, in order of best to worst:

i think we have to take into account theirs this weird aspect of destiny that plays a part in the skywalkers life. and they wanna deny it, but every generation of them seems to be a possible chosen one. luke believed his own hype til ben came along…then ben went straight grandaddy and killed the younglings. he questioned everything he was doing and taught, he lost faith in his religion. he basically became an atheist after buying into the religion for so long, he turned sour on it.

That one ship laid waste to like fucking 12 Star Destroyers and the ULTIMATE SUPER SUPREME MYSTIC STAR DESTROYER
Most of this entire movie would not need to happen of purple hard broad shared the plan with the rest of the crew. Why was it a secret escape plan? that shit caused a fucking mutiny. There was no mole or some sort of tech where they were eavesdropping.
Had purple haired chick explain to Poe the plan, no need to send Finn to find code cracker guy that ends of betraying them and getting almost everyone killed except for a small classroom sized group of people
Finn is hot garbage of a character. It would have been better for him to die in a heroic sacrifice. It made no sense how Poe peels off the troops and says it’s suicide, then Finn continues forward and is not shot at… At all. He was seconds from saving the day until annoying Asian chick comes out of nowhere to “save” Finn and we get a forced cringe kiss. And the two of them walk 5 football fields back to the base and not shot at by any of the First Order Mechs. All this just to have Luke Skywalker die. Yes, the writers and director felt we needed to keep Finn around and kill Luke Skywalker instead. Garbage
I always wanted to have a social commentary on animal cruelty and rich people in my Star Wars movies in a shoe horned in pointless sequence. Oh, a lot of tension their too with the silly jokes and such. I fucking rolled my eyes when Finn and Rose think they failed, the code cracker is gone, and the First Order is gonna kill everyone… but the trip was “worth it” because they saved like 4 alien dog/horses in some emotionally confusing scene. Was I supposed to feel “awe” or “hopelessness” I dunno but hey 1 second later Del Toro comes back.
We’re never allowed to sit on any given scene. Everything goes to another joke or another scene. Nothing is allowed to breath
Worst of all, the movie is fucking overall boring. I don’t have any reason to care about anything, so all the action just feel so fucking boring. Shit happens on screen but so fucking what. This movie is straight GARBAGE. Uninspired trash. At fucking least the prequels had some imagination. This move is… Hey remember super star Destroyers? Remember At-at walkers and the Hoth battle? Hey remember Palpy, Vader, and Luke and the temptation of the Dark Side? We have that too. Snoke just says shit we heard from a superior character in Palpatine.
Hey we have shirtless Kylo Ren in a sexual lyrics awkward joke with Rey.
Don’t forget we put Superman in this movie too in the most awkward and cringe scene in many fucking years. Maybe ever

The movie also would have been over if all the Star Destroyers launched like a BILLION fighters.
Kylo return to the ship because we can’t cover you… So fucking what? Kylo and his squad destroyed the hangar of the remaining 5 Resistance fighters. They just 5 minutes ago lost pretty much their entire fleet. The bridge of the lead ship is gone. Why fucking withdraw a because you’re capital ships can’t cover you? What a fucking CONVENIENT plot. This movie is such shit [/details]
He didn’t try to kill him really. He had a moment of panic and drew his saber when he sensed the sheer, raw power of the dark side in Ben. It scared the shit out of him and he reacted. Ben woke up at the exact wrong moment and reacted too. It was a very unfortunate moment because it set Been on a path of destruction. Luke felt responsible and didn’t want to repeat that mistake, so he went into exile.
No dawg, you just don’t “get it”. You’re just mad about your headcanons not being true and your expectations not being met. There’s no possible way the movie has a shit convoluted plot, you just watched it wrong.
