Star Wars

You’re the most recent one to say it but im gonna post a lot of spoilery shit that people complain about. Proceed with extreme caution.

[details=Spoiler]snoke most likely isnt dead. His line delivery in time with kylo ren’s actions are too obvious for him to not know what is going on. Snoke is most likely darth sideious’ master. He can probably super impose himself into another being at will. Remember that rey and kylo could only interact with each other because of snoke and they did so at the end as well, which could possibly mean 2 things. One is that they figured out how to do it themselves or that snoke is still alive and doing it.

Ive seen some other arguments with how the rebel ship was not blown up quicker. It’s a faster moving ship that was low on fuel. It’s always been the case in star wars that smaller ships travel much faster. The first order thought they had a 100% victory scenario. Just like in anything else you do, you waste a few turns to guarantee victory instead of taking a dumb risk.

The dark side cave is a huge story moment. Rey never rejects the dark side. She wants to find answers about who she is and will go to any depth to find it. The dark side didnt so she noped the fuck out of there and went to kylo ren because he said he had answers. So she tried converting him and failed.

Yes. The casino scene and rose’s character arcs suck ass

Rey is not some scrub and her power with the force is massive but incredibly untamed. This was shown in TFA. Also her history mirrors that of anakin (literal nobody born to a slave who got fucked by the force). Rey is a nobody with massive force potential, similar to both anakin and luke. There could be more to her that wasnt shown off and the whole parents thing could be snoke/ren just messing with her mind to try and bring her over to the dark side. She’s also shown to be a capable fighter and not some random scrub either.

Poe not knowing the plan is dumb as hell. He should have been told.

Leia using the force in space was super cheesy [/details]

Funny we keep using spoiler tags…but it would be stupid for someone who hasn’t seen the shit to be reading stuff in this thread in the first place  I’ll do it for major stuff though…

One thing with Rey though…[details=Spoiler] I’m assuming that Kylo was actually lying about her parents being “nobodies”…it seems like it would be in line for his character to be deceptive in that particular moment, perhaps to throw her off or increase the chance she would join up with him.[/details] I’m sure we’ll find out more about that in Episode 9.

yep

Spoiler

I don’t mind the thing with Leia’s big scene. It was a cool, hell of a jaw-dropper initially, and we all probably thought in that moment that this is how they kill her off… I understand some people thinking it’s a stretch that using the force in that situation would save a person from the harsh environments of space, but I think it’s fine, since Force is some “generally magical” thing that allows for all kinds of cool shit to happen.

edit–and the light-speed ship/missile attack was THE SHIT, man…possibly the coolest visual in the film, imo.

People that are saying that this movie “retconned” TFA don’t know what they are talking about. Nothing was retconned. Everything was answered or even not answered in the way that it was planned as by the Lucus Film story group.

People need to get over the fact that this movie ended up not being the imaginary little fan fictions that they wrote in their heads for the past 2 years.

People need to realise that JJ Abrams is a hack who relies on mystery boxes to build a sense of mystique, and uses that mystique to sell his stories, even if the boxes have very little inside.

If there’s anyone to blame for all the broken expectations that TLJ brought, it’s the one who created those expectations, not the one who had to shoulder them after.

On another note, I find it really ironic that people thought TLJ was bad because of their ruined expectations, when I thought TFA was far more guilty of that- I walked into TFA expecting a story about a fledgling Republic finding its way after the fall of the Empire, with the previous trilogy’s protangonist playing a major role in ushering a new generation of heroes. Instead I had Rebels vs Empire redux and my childhood hero reduced to a McGuffin.

Spoiler

I wouldn’t have minded the goofy shit, the minor plotholes, or being blue balled on Reys parentage if the movie at least explained why was she so damned OP in TFA

Otherwise the movie has some of the better acting and dialogue in a Star Wars film, and the humor was probably just 15% too much.

Also, I haven’t seen reviewers as a whole overrate something this egregiously since New Super Mario Bros on DS.

saw the movie. my opinion

[details=Spoiler] movie had a very very weak, off tone and badly paced beginning. was hating it. hard. middle was incredible. everything was firing all cylinders. tone, pace, banter, it was all hot fire. end it gradated down and cooled off somewhat but not a bad ending.

few thoughts.
-master Yoda was epic. so glad they used yoda puppet with a better frank oz esb personality and not all serious prequel yoda which i hated. this yoda gave me chills with his words of advice.
-seeing luke milk that ugly cow while hating the begining made me wanna vomit.
-luke is still boss. went out like obi but with a astral projection twist which i wasnt expecting.
-i also was expecting to hear kaylo ren to tell rey that they were siblings when he said he knew who her parents were. twist.
-expected the female commander to be working for the 1st order hence how they were tracking them. surprised she was a patriot.
-expected del toro to help fin escape, he didnt. again…movie was full of surprises and my expectations were getting dashed. unpredictable in short. it was well written. no one can say that the movie was predictable.
-oh yea and sith lord getting sliced by kaylo was also not expecting that.
when luke said to rey…this is not going to go down like you think it will…was summing up the movie itself.

not gonna be placing the movie in any order of best to worst since one single viewing and judging it like that might not be wise cause i remember i wasnt feeling TFA at all on first viewing but after 3rd time it grew on me. it being so much a copy of anh didnt help that movie. this one tho. even if it was darker in tone like esb it wasnt such a copy paste like tfa so i found myself enjoying it more without trying as hard to like it. tho i liked the banter between characters in tfa more than this one. but this one was a better film i think.
i need to see it 2 more times to get a feel of how it rates compared to the other films.

Spoiler

you kinda missed the whole point that anyone can be important. also cutting the old ties to allow for new growth. her parents dont define who she will be nor who the future rebels will be. anyone can be great, you dont have to be tied to some legendary bloodline to be great.

What da fuck? Haha

Spoiler

there is no reason to explain it in TFA. She’s a mysterious character that no one knows anything about. Her force level (?) Is off the charts and was shown when kylo ren tried taking memories from her. She only best kylo in the lightsaber battle cause he was crazy wounded and she herself is a capable fighter. No, not on ren’s level but he lost a lot of blood. She heard of jedi stories and actually seeing it in action she kinda just tried it and hoped for the best. Surprised when it worked each time.

from reading the comments i couldnt read before watching the flick,…

Spoiler

not sure where folks in the thread are getting the whole rose+finn romance thing. sure she’s got a crush on him but he’s not catching hard ons for her at all like for rey. i think yall are reading too much into a one sided love there. and yup. i thought it was weird that luke was holding a blue saber when his shouldve been green since the blue one got destryed. but i just figured he was building multiple sabers from his teaching jedi days. meh. whatevs.

people are fickle. if you give em the same ole shit they complain its the same ole shit and theyre bored. if you give em something new, they complain youre deviating from what they know and love. fuck everyone. it reminds me when grunge killed heavy metal. how people reacted.
i for one am glad the movie didnt copy & paste ESB like TFA copied an pasted ANH
it was a breath of fresh air. refreshing.

Saying there is no reason to explain Rey is a stretch lol. But I do like the weird relationship between Rey and Kylo, one of the most interesting dynamics in the franchise.

The fan reaction to ESB at release wasn’t all rainbows either. It violated most story conventions for a franchise, which led to people “not liking it”

Most of the hate seems to be coming from the time invested in fan theories

Watched the new film last night. I found it depressing and boring. It just seemed like the SJW nonsense was turned up to 11 from last movie, because every woman was right in this movie and every man was wrong. Star wars 9 will be a two hour diatribe on the dangers of toxic masculinity and the need for 57 different genders.

I really don’t understand the logic of defending this movie by saying “haha it pissed off some nerds.” And this whole thing about people not liking it just because it didn’t match people’s expectations or the little fanfics in their head is silly too. These are the two main excuses I see when people defend it when the truth is it just wasn’t that good.

Strong character moments with some decent action sequences are not enough to excuse a weak flimsy plot held up by a bunch of contrived bullshit. It’s very clear that this story was written, it’s not organic, shit happens because the plot demands it.[details=Spoiler]Can someone fucking explain to me how the dude who betrayed Finn and Rose knew about the evac ships and where they were, when Holdo didn’t tell anyone about that?
Seriously what the fuck? He betrays them and they go, "AH! The ships are just where he said they’d be.[/details] I’m honestly asking, I;m not sure if I don’t remember or they really just didn’t explain that.

The thing that actually pisses me off is that no one will give any actual arguments when it comes to this movie, they just go haha fucking nerd, u mad. Shit’s ridiculous. I’m not fucking attacking for saying they enjoyed the movie or anything, it had it’s moments, but it was not a good movie.

Ride, you can’t be serious about the SJW shit, like that’s just reaching for something that’s not even remotely there man.

People are really overreacting to this movie. Some people have legit reason why some parts wasn’t good, but to as whole? Nah B. . .

Spoiler

they knew about the evac ships and everyone jumping off but they didnt know about the base. Finn, rose, and poe thought it was just a way to abandon ship and hope for survival instead of an actual escape plan. They explain that pretty well.

On my way to see it right now. I’m not particularly excited or whatever though. I’m just going cause I’m burnt out on anime atm.

Spoiler

That’s not what I’m asking. The plan with the evac ships was to head to the base without being detected by radar. When they dipped out of the Raddus, no one fucking knew about it except Poe, Holdo and Leia who were on the ships. Poe even says something to the effect of oh shit this plan could work because he’s just now being told about the plan. Finn and Rose didn’t know they had left, Snoke and the first order didn’t know they had left, but this random guy who betrayed them just happened to know the exact location of those ships??

Again, I’m genuinely trying to figure this out because by this point in the movie I was half tuning out.
