story starts as a narration then at the end it is revealed that the one telling the story is one of the survivors either a really old ip man or k2 thus making it a star wars story. Making it a possible to appear on ep 8.
I wonder if the reshoots involved stuff that was added it to make it connect more with the rest of the franchise.
Spoiler
For example, the scene with the Hammerhead ramming the disabled star destroyer so it would crash into another one. The Hammerhead was only introduced in the second had of Rebels Season 2, so it playing such an important part has me wondering. Especially since itâs quite obvious that the entire ending was reworked a lot, with the older trailers showing a lot of footage that was scrapped.
Vader in action was just horrifyingly badass, but I think the movie would have been x100 better if all he did was tell that dad-joke tier one liner and fucked off for the rest of the movie.
I laughed pretty hard with my friends at that part because I told them right before we sat down âI bet Vader is only gonna be there for two minutes and then peace outâ and it really seemed that way from that scene.
also huge spoiler but:
[details=Spoiler] I CANâT FUCKING BELIEVE THEY ALL DIED. Like, the balls to actually do something like that in a triple A blockbuster movie in a beloved franchise with a cast of quirky and relatively likable characters.
They really make you think someone is gonna swoop in at the last second and save those two at the end like in every movie ever(and the first part of this very movie), but no, they bite it, just like everyone else. Even the rebels that came there to help crash pathetically against the windshield of Vaderâs personal star destroyer.
[details=Spoiler]This is essentially the Dirty Dozen of Star Wars. One way mission, everyone dies. Iâm glad they had the balls to see it through and didnât rely on some bullshit last second save. It was hinted in New Hope that they were all going to die.
Tarkin and Leia CGI looked creepy. CGI still has a LONG way to go to make humans look completely flawless on screen.
Stormtroopers were incredibly lame. I was hoping there would be some sort of redemption and show why they were so feared across the galaxy. Once again they make Obi Wanâs comment about their accuracy seem like goddamn lie.
Some Stormtroop kills were almost casual. Wasnât there a scene when the chick just pops up from below and⌠pushes a trooper over a railing??
Also, why do they bother wearing armor? Shit is so useless, Iâm pretty sure a mosquito could take them out.
One thing about Vader is that I could never figure out why everyone shit their pants whenever his name is mentioned. Sure heâs a big dude in armor who routinely chokes people, but I thought it was more of an intimidation thing since you never saw him do anything.
That fucking changed after seeing this movie. Dude was a nightmare fueled murder machine. It makes me want to see yet another SW spinoff that just features Vader hunting down and wrecking jedi and cutting rebel scum to pieces. lol
For anyone who wants more Vader, I HEAVILY recommend the Darth Vader comic series theyâve been putting out. Itâs him being a proper Sith and a proper badass all the way through, with some prequel nods that actually work really well.
Particularly the Vader Down special, which is sort of a âcrossoverâ between the Darth Vader and Star Wars comic series. Hell, if you just wanna see his full potential, get that. Oh dear lord, the guy kicks so much ass.
EDIT: Here, have a double-page spread from Vader Down:
Fuck all you haters this movie was amazing. So much talk about the plot when the visual spectacle was so rich and developed.
Iâll agree that Mr. Pilot defector dude(canât even remember his name) was severely uninteresting and that saw could have had more screen time, but fuck man the real props and the CG were top notch all the way through. When jyn and oberin of sunspear are walking through jedha you have this enormous crowd of things happening, all kinds of aliens and people and droids wearing and doing different things. Thatâs the kind of scene you have to watch multiple times to soak everything in.
Thats just one of them anyway. The sense of scale was also done impeccably. The tie fighters contrasted by the destroyer and then the death Star gave you a very clear measure of the enormity of their size, and soon after you are the destroyer chilling over jedhaâŚwhich is then even further zoomed into from an aerial view. That kind of stuff blew me away. I do game and film concept art for a living so I was looking at the visual details quite a bit. Everything from the new trooper designs to the buildings, ships, aliens and costumes was brilliant.
I liked it more on the second viewing. It makes the Star Wars universe actually appear larger, and makes the sprawling-ish Star Wars IV-VI episodes actually appear to be a pretty tightly constrained look at the most interesting thing in the universe right then. Way more fun to watch episode IV after this, even if the fairly frenetic pacing from Rogue One crawls almost to a standstill in A New Hope.
