HUGE SPOILER
The plans for the Death Star end up getting stolen from the Empire and put into Princess Leia’s hands. She is about to deliver them to the Rebellion, but her ship is captured by Darth Vader and she gives the plans to R2-D2 to take to Obi Wan Kenobi.
Glad to hear the movie is being well received. Being so well connected is that my Google Now feed is flooded with Rogue One stuff. It’s been hard not to click on any of the reviews, but I want to go in as “cold” as possible.

since i dislike the idea of not having Williams score the movie…i hope someone that worked on the movie releases the version without its musical soundtrack, just the voice acting and sound effects, and reinserts Williams Star Wars music.or at least releases the movie underground without its musical score attached so others can edit in the Williams music.

The music works. It’s got some less orchestral touches, but for the most part it felt properly Star Wars-y.
And trust me, this movie is spoilerable.

Hammerhead appears in Rebels.
In fact, both the Hammerheads and what appears to be the Ghost were already visible in the trailers.

My gripes with the movie. Light on spoilers, but I’ll tag it anyway.

The beginning, past the title, is super-choppy. Here’s a girl. Cut to a different planet. Here’s a dude. Cut to a different planet. Here’s another dude. Cut to a different planet. Oh, it’s the girl again. Cut to, guess what, a different planet. And then cut to a different planet AGAIN with barely a pause. When it settles down and gets going, though, it rolls smoothly and nicely.
Also, blatantly CGI Tarkin stood out. Like, they were ALMOST there. Almost. But every time he was on screen, I couldn’t help but keep thinking of how uncanny-valley he is. CGI Leia was a little better since they had to render fewer wrinkles, but still noticeable.
At least it was to me. I wonder how it is to someone who didn’t think about the fact that the actors playing those two are 1) dead and 2) blatantly too old to appear that way.
Jyn also has a weird peptalk moment that seems to be really out of character for her, because not once before or after that does she act the way she does in that scene.
If I’m being nitpicky, Death Star test splosions seemed to move weirdly slowly. But then these are sci-fantasy physics, so I can let that go.
That’s it, really. Those are my gripes. The rest, I dug. Loved, even.[/details]

How about how useless Stormtrooper armor is? Not just Donnie Yen but some others managed to KO fully armored troopers with just punches/kicks.

That was terrible.
Flat-out terrible.
Got 1 laugh and 40 seconds of enjoyment out of the movie when they fulfilled my request to show why Vader is so terrifying to the rebels…

It was a very by the numbers war movie that happened to be set in the Star Wars universe with . . . . .
BEST DISPLAY OF VADER BAD-ASSERY EVER!! This is the Vader that the movie’s alluded to. He was always an unstoppable force and this movie captured it. When the Devastator showed up, you knew who that was on the ship. It was a very small appearance, but definitely awesome.
I was entertained, but nothing really made it stand out from the pack. The movie played it very safe.

Having the balls to kill everyone. For once, a suicide mission is actually a fucking suicide mission. Bravo!
I’d forgotten about that part, but I WAS bugged by that mid-movie, so yeah. Add that to the list of nitpicks 
It’s kind of par for the course for a Star Wars movie, though, so I let that one slide.
Thanks to this movie, I now wonder if Vader spends time…

Rex already explains it in Rebels that Stormtrooper armor is less durable than what they used to wear.
Pros:
Good special effects/action sequences
K-2S0 was funny and probably the best character in the movie
Vader small but cool scenes
–the last 2 minutes of the film
Cons:
Other than Jyn, there is a serious lack of characterization for all the other characters. Its hard to give everyone a huge arc, but there should have been more
Underuse of Saw Gerrerra. Considering hes played by an Oscar wnner.
-Donnie yens mantra was annoying. He needed more hand to hand combat scenes towards the end.
-No real lightsaber battle! As a Casual SW fan, IMO lightsaber battles are mandatory. (30 seconds of ownage doesnt count)
–Felicity Jones giving that pep talk to those soldiers. She had no presence. those guys looked like they couldnt be torn from their cellphones lol
