Its kinda funny. I found myself in a similar situation with MTG years ago. I decided to quit and go do other shit.
But the entire premise of this isn’t to do anything productive. Instead its literally to just stay mad perpetually because Disney is gonna keep pumping SW for every dime its worth. What’s hilarious is that the “Fandom Menace” still watched Star Wars shit. But instead they watch it so they can hate it.
You guys get way more entertainment out of SW than regular people because of how centered your lives are around it. Its deliciously ironic. Marks of the highest order.
I never said it was terrible. I actually enjoyed it and am thinking about going to see it again. There are definitely some parts that I thought were stupid, but I still had a good time.
How many fandom menace types were saying boycott EP9! I only know 1.
Also allot of people just pirated the movie like I did. Wasn’t gonna pay Disney no cent for that garbage but I wanted more context from all the webms being posted on twitter. Movie was fucking hilarious lol
Sorry for taking that so personal, man. I read back through the thread and I can see I was in the wrong and shouldn’t have acted with hostility. I apologize.
Re Grey Jedi’s: I don’t know much about them. But I know I always like morally ambiguous characters in my stories.
However, I feel in the realm of Star Wars where there is a clean line in the sand of good and evil that kinda shit just doesn’t work within the universe you’re given. Cool in theory but immediately falls apart at the seams in practice.
Imo, The closest thing we have to actual moral ambiguities in the SW universe are bounty hunters and snugglers. Yet even they have a clear moral compass. The rest are just clearly good people, clearly bad people, people resisting the dark or people in the dark being brought back to the light.
It works that way with Star Wars, as a Force user, the Force literally manipulates you, even with meditation and practice tons of influence, manipulations one side or the other tugs at you and free will is an illusion to the Jedi and the Sith.
Fair point as usual. RoS intrigues me because of how late they settled on a final cut. Not sure if anyone saw Salt with Angelina Jolie but that movie had 3 separate and complete cuts. The theatrical cut, directors cut, and extended cut had significant differences. Angelina’s character, the ending, etc. were completely different depending on which version of the film you saw. I think RoS could be similar. Not a “Snyder Cut” situation in which special effects would needed to be added for it to be released.
Because there’s more to the franchise than the movies you dipshit.
I shifted focus on the Star Wars I actually liked. Why complain about TLJ and RoS when I can talk about Mandalorian? Get Jedi Fallen Order when it goes on sale and rewatch Rouge One and catch Resistance on Disney+. Right now, I’m waiting for the 7th season of Clone Wars next month.
I pretty much went this route with Transformers 5. Whenever those discussions came up, just engaged only when I had something to meaningful to contribute. Doesn’t mean that I didn’t critique it, but angry tirades only work for about a week or two.
I watched this movie twice and watched yt reviews afterwards. I agree the general consensus; the trilogy has no sense of continuity at all. As shitty as the prequel trilogy was, it had at least an underlying unifying story arc.
It should’ve been JJ in the helm for the entire trilogy. TFA had such a great potential.
I don’t think anyone will disagree with that take on the ST. However, I do disagree about JJ at the helm for all three. I think that we would have gotten even more of a nostalgia trip with him guiding all three movies than we do now. JJ makes a decent setup, but the payoff is rarely there.
JJ should have continued Kylo Ren as the big bad in this one. I think that was the clear and present issue with this most recent movie.
This is basically where I’m at. The movies to me are boring at best and unwatchable at worst.
All the side material though? Awesome.
Mando? Phenomenal
Clone Wars? I’m 3 seasons in, I think. Maybe 4 and love it.
Rebels? Heard nothing but good things
Resistance? I’ve heard more good than bad.
Jedi Fallen Order? Awesome.
All the comics and EU books I’ve read while they have been sparse I’ve enjoyed, a lot.
I was also introduced to Star Wars through the EU though. The first thing Star Wars I ever read were the shadow of the empire comics.
I find the battle of Deus ex machina’s kinda lame and repetitive but all the side stuff and stuff that builds towards that battle is so interesting and engaging to me.
Character development and world building is more important to me. So either of those being weak or all of that work for garbage pay offs is exceedingly frustrating. I feel the sequel trilogy has failed on all three fronts.
I feel like “well the movies suc anyway” is a huge cope. I understand why it might seems easier to just say “fuck the movies” but the mainline films will always be what attracts the most people to the mythos/characters/universe. I’d rather the films be impeccable than have them be trash and then go “weeeeell at least the comic book on Hux fleshed out his character better”.
Anywaaay what’s your guys final consensus on Mando? I think it’s a 7.9/10. I think the show does allot of cool things and Mando is a great character but there are moments where his decision making comes off kinda goofy.
