Star Wars Thread

Problem there is fans are both crying out for “SOMETHING NEW” and “SOMETHING RECOGNIZABLE” at the same time. So you are almost required to do a middle of a road approach.
Or you ignore the fans and just do your own creative process and just aim for the best story you can crank out.

Enter The Mandalorian. You have Boba Fett without Boba Fett so no one can complain.

I’ve seen complaints.

but you know what I mean
I think that show is solid (with a fantastic closing episode) but it doesn’t do anything super interesting.

Disney should hire Thimothy Zahn for the next trilogy/series they do.

I was actually thinking that when I ran through Target and saw one of the books.

I meant to respond directly to this point. This frankly why the MCU is tracking well with fans. The MCU does a really good job adapting from the existing material. The outcomes in most of the movies are pretty much expected. I don’t think I have been legitimately shocked by the outcomes of any of the films in the set. Emotionally touched, yes; never surprised.

The difference is the MCU is pulling their material from existing source materials, many of these stories are tested before hand in the comics. While Star Wars made all their non-film media except for Clone Wars non-canon and expect to tread in new territory blind. Its what set the Rebels and Mandalorian shows different as they take from Legends that worked and do what the MCU did.

Also keep in mind the MCU had it’s share of less that perfect movies too

That to me supports the argument for a middle of the road approach.

Exactly. Seeing the old hits getting played on the small screen is what the people want.

Totally agree.

A series would be best, gives him room to build and not have to cram everything into a limited run time.

A series would be cool, but I’d be fine with movies to.

That’s not what I was suggesting at all, Rebels worked as it refers back to both the OT and Prequel Trilogy, as well as some Legends content, with cameos from both building what’s already there. Mandalorian works as it also makes references to both trilogies, EU and builds what’s there.

What the Sequel Trilogy lacked was cohesion, call back were done for nostalgia only, no outline for the 3 movies, old faces were brought it without rhyme or reason.

Makes sense as she has some facial similarities with her mother

We’re basically saying the same thing. The Legends references in those stories are what the fans wanted.

You can tell that Mark Hamill did the mo-cap for that scene. Leia unfortunately wasn’t done as well.

I chuckled
