ST / VF Nights at Julien's: Fri Dec 4th, 8pm

Done! I lost my web hosting a few months ago, so I just zipped it up and uploaded it

read the txt file for the differences between the two very similar diagrams

Wow, thanks. This is most useful.

To answer the question in the text file, I guess I prefer leaving the Japanese in the bottom alone. That way, it gives me quick reference so that I might one day memorize the characters’ names by how the Hiragana or Katakana look. Now, any chance you could translate the Claw, O. Sagat, and Ryu sections of the YBH?:lovin:

So, who came up with the data on the T. Akiba site? I’m guessing that Akiba simply stands for Akihabara. When it lists Dhalsim as the victor over Ryu 7/10 times, is it the average number from Gian vs. Daigo? Is it based on some other personal experiences of high caliber players? Or is it just a rough guess from a random player who happened to be in an Akihabara arcade the day that T. Akiba’s editor happened to be doing research? I’m simply curious as to how the numbers were established, as this seems to be a highly referenced resource for you ST players.

Sux, I’m looking to meta-game my weakest match-up, but Boxer’s only listed weak match-up seems to be Geif. I’m nowhere near patient enough to play Geif. But how else can I defeat the Full Screen Super?

Something else of note, Claw is listed as a 4:1 favorite over Geif. That tells you just how much better Nate is than me. That man crushed me like it was nothing. For he is one with the 360, he must live and breath Geif.

Reminds me of the tournament on 6/15, when someone wanted to register for ST but I was still busy running Marvel. Nate was running around collecting entry fees and getting last minute entrants, so I told the person to go find Nate in order to sign up. He asked me what Nate looked like, and I said: “White guy, maybe part Latino or Mediterranean, beard, . . . looks like Zangeif.” He had no trouble locating Nate.

OMG. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Great fucking post god damn. Man, I wanna like, make a statue in your honor for that post. Besides that, it makes me realize that while I SHOULD be using Ryu or Sagat for Chun’s bad matchups, I like Ken way too much to pick either. Rushdown son, holla at me.

You know, I’ve been meaning to try and translate the 8 strategy questions for every character, in an attempt to keep my Japanese skills sharp, but with my electronic dictionary broken, it’s hard :frowning:

I’ll see how I do without the dictionary

I would assume T.Akiba came up with the data on his site, but I don’t know how he did it. He seems to be a pretty credible source on this kind of stuff though

Two useful sites I used when reading T. Akiba’s forums:

the best j-e dictionary:
http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/dict

japanese web page translator:
http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?9T

T. Akiba doesn’t stand for Akihabara. He’s a player, a fairly nice guy with glasses who likes to pick gold ken. The data is taken from top players who browse his forums (dedicated to ST). I wish he explained some of the less intuitive matchups… for example:

That seems crazy to me. I’ve beat the snot out of every Gief I’ve ever played against with Boxer. The only exception is Pony. I did lose to Pony several times in a row… but still. I would have scored that 8-2 in favor of Boxer.

I think the tourney footage of the last tourney I was in at Zach’s has my Claw vs Nate’s Gief. I don’t mean to imply that my Claw is Worthy Of Study or anything like that, but I use a strategy that shuts down Gief, that I’m sure you would have no problem doing.

I think it’s a tough matchup because Claw has a hard time getting out of the slide->noogie trap. However, if Claw gets one knockdown, he can do repeated ambiguous wakeup wall dives. Since Dhalsim has no reversal attack, he pretty much has to block and pray. I called it a tough matchup because I think it’s close, not because I thought Claw lost. In other words, it’s not just an “I win” fight the way say Cammy would be.

BTW I suggest you post the translated Akiba data to the wiki. I’m sure it would be appreciated by non J readers.

Julien

You need to give me some tips the next time we have a gaming session. I just DLed the 6/15 footage, and I don’t think you played Claw in either the winner’s or loser’s finals (the two times you faced Nate). I could hear myself saying “Wish I had a picture of your face” at 57:05 of the second file; when Nate made that comeback with T-Hawk and your face got all sour.

Sadly, I don’t think the tape captured the anonymous individual saying “Did you see how big that guy was?” It would have been sometime after Alex’s final match against Mandel. That was definitely the highlight of the evening for me.

Also, at 51:37, the following transpired:

Full Screen Super: Did Mandel place higher than me?
Macros_R_Us: Yes.
Bracket_Fixer: Well, he’s still playing and you’re not.
Full Screen Super: That was kind of a dumb question. . . .

ok, so tomorrow (July 11th) at 8pm it is

I’m in, but the thread’s title is confusing. Julian, are you going to be there? If so, could you bring the arcade stick of mine? Thnx.

Edit: I guess I should bring my PS2 as always. Alex, showing up with your copy of CCC2? This will be one time when the console version is desired, since we could put it on training mode and wouldn’t have to repeatedly pick characters once one dies.

The 12th is Thursday, tomorrow is the 11th. So I don’t know which date is right. Fix the date and I’ll sticky it like I like to sticky all “scheduled” events. <3

I will be there with CCC2 at ~8:30

Umbrella can you bring your two sticks as well? I’m going to take Keith’s advice and try to learn how to play on console…

peeks his head around the corner ummm… Im down for one of these event’s how do you get there?!

Still a little perplexed at the thread’s title conflicting with your post on the previous page. At first, the thread title said that we were meeting on the 8th, which would have been last Sunday. Now, the date and day of the week don’t match up. Are we showing up at your place today (Wednesday the 11th) or tomorrow (Thursday the 12th)? Cuz the thread’s title currently says “Thursday, July 11th”, and that would fall on either 2002 or 2013. So I’m either really early or really late.

Julian, going to show up with my arcade stick? If you don’t post, I’ll have to hassle you on the phone at work. Also, think you could bring the Tekken stick? I’m actually rather partial to the box, since it doesn’t slide around much.

I’ll be sure to bring the PS2. With Julien training on console, will he attend Evo?

fixed, sorry. It’s on WEDENSDAY

yay! clarified.

console isn’t all that bad, you seem to do fine in the tournaments

but yes, I will bring both sticks

That way Mr. Beasley can dominate at Evo and the Northwest coast can reign supreme.

Who’s all showing up? I should be there around 9:15-9:30.

I should be there around 9PM. Someone help out Kenneth by telling how to get there, his post is near that top of this page. Or, at least tell him if the party if full. I drive through rote memory, so I don’t know addresses or anything. It’s in Ballard, but I couldn’t tell you any more than that.

Edit: will end up being later, due to dinner plans possibly running long.

I sent tempest253 directions to my house. He’s welcome to come.
