Considering the tentative teams, I think no character repeats would be fine. There may be at most 1 conflict, but most people play at least 1 other character. As for format, I personally find pokemon style to be more exciting unless there’s one dominant player but I don’t think that will be a problem. So I agree with umbrella style and that’s my vote: best of 3 pokemon style, no repeat characters, blind character/order picks for first match, losing team can change characters/order.
With that said, round robin is definitely still an option and would also be very exciting. I’d like everyone’s opinion so please vote if you are hyped about this event, whether you’re going to be in it or not.
I definitely vote round robin. Pokemon elimination is only cool if there’s more than two teams IMO. I’m… not even gonna be picked for the team though so I’m not sure if my opinion matters.
I vote round robin, because it seems to be a more accurate way to gauge the strengths of teams. However, time constraints will play a big role in deciding what the organizers can fit in. There’s nothing wrong with elimination though. If there is a team elimination tournament, then teams should be fewer than 5 players. It would also take much, MUCH more time.
Can I just register in our team as three different people, and play 3 different characters? I’ll pick Sim/Boxer/Fei Long or something.
I personally think this sounds cool, but know almost for a fact that it won’t be received with that much gusto. I’m pretty sure the top 5 seattle players are excited to try to rep seattle ST vs portland…
Since time was a concern with the 5v5 originally (calling for the double team elimination format), I’m not sure if a full fledged team tournament could be fit in. Keep in mind that some of us are looking to drive to Portland and back on the same day. Besides, I’m more for watching an exhibition rather than playing for money at the end of the day. And a team tournament without an entry fee would mean everyone and their mother joining.
I can’t tell if you’re making fun of me or giving me props but thx babe~ :lovin:
Ooh. Didn’t think about that. I think I’m just sad that my two favorite aspects of tourney play are joined here (no entry fee/team setup) and it’s something I can’t participate in. Forgot about time constraints.
Keith, single elimination will move very fast so just put Seattle’s top 3 and Portland’s top 3 together and hope that they don’t lose to some random team, LOL!
I understand hella people wanting to play in the team tourney, but since (I’m guessing) we’ll be running this at the end of the day, who really wants to go through another tournament after about 10 hours of playing for no prize for winning? I like the idea of doing a 5v5 because it’s a more exciting format to me. Single elim runs faster than other tourney formats, but you’re banking on a couple of things: 1) the top three players form a team together, 2) they don’t get eliminated early. And assuming everyone wants to see the top 3 from Portland face off against the top 3 from Seattle in the finals, why should we play a single elim tourney to watch that?
What would happen if it was team Seattle seeds #3, #6, and #8 v. team Seattle seeds #1, #7 and #5 in the end? Would people still be hyped to watch that if the Portland teams are eliminated? (Note: the only reason I put Seattle as an example is because it sounds like they would have more teams than Portland would based only on posts in this thread and others about the 5 on 5.)
If I’m in the minority on all of that, that’s cool, I can except that people wanna play. Looking at the EC vs. WC events, people always want to play for spots and add extra teams.
