ST isn’t in SBO any more. And the only year they had it it was a 3v3 tourny.
But still a stupid point.
Always respect thoes who have come before us.

NKI tested PS1 and arcade versions…he said the dejay/rog issue does not exist on PS1…DJ can’t duck under rog’s move…not sure if this helps or what…
You’re right, it is important to distinguish the “we’s”. I for one have EVERY desire to see a return to an arcade format for whatever is possible to run on arcade. So please, careful with those “we’s”.
is their different versions of ST on ps1?? we really need spence to show the vid of me playing vs deejay with dsp. this isnt my imagination and i really dont care who i lost too in tourney. what i do know is when you play a game, and then you go play a game on PS1, you would assume its the same game. when you have been playing this game for soooo long, you are trained to use what you know, and when you find out so many things are altered, its just not the same game. to those who arent affected negatively from these changes, sure you must think im just babbling cause i lost. but, go find a bison player and ask him what he thinks. there is just no end to this argument. some say its peoples fault for not learning the ps1 version and what not, but wtf?? thats like saying, why dont you learn how to play mortal kombat, or killer instinct… just a totally different game. anyhow, the real players who understand fighting games know what im getting at, and the idiots who just like to talk random shit will never stop, so thats just my point on this matter. take it for what you want…
watts
ps. spence, can you send me the vid of me vs dsp, cause im positive my st fierce whiffs when he was ducking, and my rush punch never traded with his max out… which totally renders rog useless in this match… thanks dave.
I need to say a few things because this is getting way out of hand.
First of all, whoever you are talking shit to Watts, stop. First, you’re making yourself look like an idiot by talking about SBO and other stuff…you’re obviously misinformed. Second, you’re talking shit to Watson, one of the most OG ST players ever and arguably the best the US has ever had. Who are you again? No offense, because I appreciate you getting my back and all, but I actually have the right to talk now. You, on the other hand, don’t. So please stop trying to stir up pointless shit with Watson.
NOW as for the Dee Jay vs Rog match on PS1…
Watts I honestly don’t remember you trying to get me with standing FP and me not blocking it by crouching. HOWEVER, what really stands out in my mind about the match is that every time you tried to dash punch, I did max out, and it ALWAYS beat your dash punch. Not ONCE did your punch get to me and trade, which I seem to remember happens a lot more on the arcade version. SO, I have no idea about the standing FP issue, but I would argue that Rog’s low dash punch is a lot slower moving on PS1 than on arcade version. I say somebody tries it out.
A perfect example is the last round of our final match. Spence should have it on tape: you tried to dash punch me 5x, and EVERY time I got a max out that came out in time and hit you CLEAN out of the dash punch, without any trading. I clearly remember getting my ass rushed down in arcade when trying to do that, so I’m either going to say that 1. max out is faster on PS1 or 2. dash punch is slower.
NOW, let’s cut the drama and stop talking shit to each other, especially those who haven’t earned that right.
No, I am the one to blame here. Wizard asked me directly what version to use for Evo, and I said PS1. I’m sure a lot of people want to know what the hell I was thinking, so here it is:
I made a mistake, and I apologize to everyone. Considering all the differences we now know, the PS1 version definitely should not be used in tournaments. The DC version should also never be used again, which leaves us no choice but emulation.
For reference, here are the differences that I have confirmed in the PS1 version so far (not a complete list)…
-slight delay between “Round #, Fight!” and when you can actually move
-Chun’s medium upkicks fall way too slowly
-Guile can do CPS1-chains (cr.Short->st.Fierce)
-characters don’t get dizzy when they should
-Ken, Sagat, and Sim can do reversal super (which they shouldn’t be able to do)
-two buttons pressed immediately one after the other will be registered as being pushed at the same time
-only two punches (not three) are required for a lariat
-if the opponent has zero life left, it takes two blocked specials to kill (not one)
Once again, I apologize to everyone (especially to Watson and Kuni, who probably got screwed over the worst).
-Nicholai!
It’s not really the AE skills carrying over from XBL but rather the fact that many people did play SF2 when it was popular and they quit after a while. When AE came out, many of the old players decided to start playing again. But since many of these players weren’t constantly winning tournaments they were unheard of outside of their local scene and are now considered “new skool” no matter how long they’ve been playing. There are a few true “new school” heads who started playing ST when AE was released and are pretty decent but are still missing something from their game.
st is having its own tournament soon preety big by the same organizers of sbo, I think cvs2 was the other game toi be included in that tourney dunno
Hah my new favorite joke is going to be talking to players, no matter how good, and bet them an amount of money I dont have that they cant win a Japanese tournament that doesnt even have the game we’re talking about. Shit is so crisp ITS SEE THROUGH!
Thank you. You said it exactly as it needed to be said.
I’ve been playing SF since the first day it was available at my local arcade down in Philly - Spring of '92 was it? Anyway, I’ve been playing Blanka for 13 years now and even though I’ve only entered 1 or 2 ST tournaments and no previous tournaments for the other versions, I know that I can hang with most anyone in OG SF games. Especially HF. I think its funny how people sleep on Blanka in ST. Sure he has bad matchups but he is capable.
I sure hope this trend towards an ST revival continues cause you can bet that I will make some fools notice the power that is Blanka. Haha.
Oh yeah, I’m old school - so please kill the thought of considering me as a new school player. I’m older than most of the old schoolers anyway. I’m 33 and I’ll still beat that ass.

Yea when you take that Bengay to the arcade with you and you take your kids there and they(behind your back) go ask your opponents to let their “daddy” win so he will feel good about himself and buy them a new GameCube game from Toys R Us.
I shop at EB. Get it right.

Exactly, i know what you mean. I started playing in philly also around 93, at the now defunct naval base. They had 2 arcades on base, both had SF2:CE, and later on got ST. Personally i think most of the people who post on this site are “OG” players since about 85% of them have been playing SF for a very long time. But it seems that if you weren’t living in Cali or winning tournaments you’re new school :xeye:
Old school or New school… doesn’t matter.
If you bring the game more life that’s all that counts.
More Competition, More Action, More Fun.
I for one would like ST to stay in Evo/Major Tournaments.
Whichever version it goes to, I will play it. I’m not that great @ SSF2T yet but I’ll get better. Player are always rising from below to be here.
Every year, there is a handful maybe more people always talking about Evo if it’s not here in the States or somewhere else.
You will always have more players.
Shirts, JSJ, Decoy, all you guys who know me on zbattle or mame. Play me I’m gonna rise over DGV lol this year too
yeah i played SF2 like back in 91’ when my supermarket and laundromat had it and it was even there you can find some decent competition. I was addicted to that game so much that i brought the SF2:WW for the SNES :karate: but yeah after ST released like around 94’ i got bored with it cause its feels like capcom is rehashing the same game over and over (which is what they are still doing these days) and quitted fighting games after 94’. so anyway i missed the the whole alpha series, Vs series, but 3s, CVS2, and AE sparked my interest again to come back and play.
why dont we have sf2:ae on ps2 instead of ST?
since no ST version is accurate, and sf2:ae is the “oldest” newest game alive thats easy to find a copy, why not have that instead?
yes, not having ST in the official tourney sucks but you guys can run side tourneys like that unofficial ST tourney that happened at my room (the louisiana crew room) with cigarbobs cabinet/supergun/emulator, etc.
I like FMJ’s idea about having the AE tournament, and the smaller ST arcade tournament. I don’t think you even have to limit it, just let everyone know there will be a limited number of cabs, and that they better be there for their turn or they are dq’ed.
Yeah, AE should at least be in the votable games department.
When is this tournament? website link? That might be worh traveling abroad for.
AE should be at least votable, but in now way should it replace ST.
people should all just pitch in and buy official srk cabs with boards that can be used every year for evo…just have them kept in storage or something while not in use…you can pay for storage with some of the premiun membership money and maybe raise it like a doller to help make up for it
